Wow, I wish I lived in an area where bass get big enough to even consider hitting an 8 inch lure. Unfortunately in Ohio, the biggest bass I ever caught was 6 lbs. Most are in the 12-16 inch and 1-3 lbs range.

the perfect size lure for california is that or even bigger. so many bass are so used to seeing 4 to 8 inch lures. i saw a guy at castaic with a 12 inch lure and told him he isnt going to catch anything. he caught two over 10 pounds.

i have used large swimbaits. They are more difficult to cast and do not produce any more fish then a spinnerbait of stick bait. Nice looking though.

That'll get you a trophy after a fresh stock. Up by Lake Mendocino in NorCal when they stock fresh hatchery trout in the north fork of the russian river the striped bass from the lake smell the water, swim up stream like salmon and gorge themeselves on the fresh trout. it's incredible to watch 15 pund stripers pulled out of a trout stream.
