I hereby declare MARVIN JUNIOR the greatest soul singer of all time. There are many, and many that I love to listen to : Levi Stubbs, Sam Cooke, Smokey, Jackie W, James Brown, Otis, but Marvin Junior has to be the most powerful compelling soul singer of all time. Pure MAGIC. This is my absolute favorite Dells song
No question the British "Northern Soul" crowd consistently displays good taste and erudition in music... for us in Chicago, of course, the Dells (and Curtis Mayfield, the ChiLites, so many other great soul stars, as well as Muddy Waters, Bo, and all the other Chess blues artists) are part of our hometown heritage. Thanks for posting.
This song was on my 1st ever MOD album I bought in 1984 "Purple Hearts from pastures gone" if I am not mistaken ? and still have it in the storeroom .
takes me back to late 1970 at the wheel . great sound but i think i used to sit this one out if it came on in the early hours as my legs had gone by then . flynny hepher and me having a great time . regards jimmy liddy .was "run for cover" played after this as that one reminds me of the mecca about late 1971 . may be wrong .but so long ago

Agreed in Spades!! The word 'powerhouse' comes to mind....both this and 'Run For Cover' are fabulous and you can pick both up on the Original Cadet Label for around £10-15 for this one and maybe £30 for 'Run For Cover'.......needless to say, both are in my collection!
simply one of the best male vocal groups of all time. always had good harmony. always had very good arrangements. heard MARVIN JUNIOR sing " wichita lineman". as the young folks say, it was off the chain.
This song was their best. I listened to the 45 rpm single of this song over and over. They were every bit as good as the Temptations or the Four Tops.
All kinds of music can be wonderful but R&B from the 1960's is just unbeatable. "Let's put our love somehere for the whole world to behold". Sincere, straight, and strong.
I always thought baritone lead vocalist Marvin Junior was every bit as good as Teddy Pendergrass, and that Michael Bolton was rather a poor man's Marvin Junior. His talent is showcased on "The Love We Had Stays On My Mind." GREAT song.

Simply one of the best soul / Northern soul records of all time, also, if you like this, listen to 'run for cover', absolute excellence.

Love the Dells. Johnny recently passed away and the radio station here played this song. It is one of my favorites.

Are they still together? How do they sound? I loved them in the 60's. They always had great musical backup to go with their very powerful voices.
