  • Very intelligent. It's fascinating that he comes at film from both a business and artistic stand point. He's willing to understand that it's a business and money must be made, but once the film begins shooting, he must then find a way for it become a piece of artistic expression. It's unbelievable how he continues doing this with each film, especially in today's over saturated marketplace.

  • "People said Bladerunner and Legend had'nt really worked, i actually thought they where pretty good"

go with your instinct.... great advice there!

  • @paranoidpfanclub Blade Runner is a masterpiece an outtstandting masterpiece, but Legend weas just so underdeveloipped, and weird and drawn out it was terrible!!!!

  • Every Oscar show should just start with an oscar for Ridley.... even if he hasn't made a movie that year

  • GIVE THIS MAN AN OSCAR ALREADY YOU SELFISH FUCKS!

  • STOP READING THE PRESS

  • coolest director eva

  • legend

  • "gi jane, which didnt work, nobody really likes" go fuck yourself

  • 0:00-0:10 - Count how many times Ridley said Hmm, Hmm - quite a few lol! I think he is his own greatest hero :-O

  • "...REALLY substantial." God, what a jerk, that Ridley lol.

  • Hey everyone, add me if you have a passion for film making. I'm british and sixteen and want to be a film director. Add me and we'll talk about how someone would go about making it in the industry, what films you liking at the moment or even what inspired you to get into film in the first place :)

  • @Statistic100 i have a passion for filmmaking but havnt had the opportunity to do anything with it i hope my dream dosnt die because of a lack of action. why do you want to be a filmmaker?

  • @AMBat3rdrock to put it simply because i love films and want to make some, seems like the most fun and rewarding job to do in life.

  • @Statistic100 I feel exactly the same i hope you can acheive this ambition of yours. are you doing anything to make this dream a reality?

  • @AMBat3rdrock I watch tons of films new and old, I've gone to a BFI thing that was okay and I'm also taking Drama, Media and Film studies at college

  • @Statistic100 Thats great you should keep it up im trying to do at least one thing everyday that brings me a step closer and i would like to get into college to study film but my options are quite limited. london film academy have some amazing courses for professionals and people with little to no experience but they are quite expensive you should take a look at them though. do you have any favourite films?

  • @AMBat3rdrock I've seen a lot of films and I can see that there is no way to offically say what my top five are, because it changes every hour depending on what mood I'm in. I like a lot of real hard hitting films but right now I would say; Predator, The Truman Show, Alien, Bladerunner and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

  • @Statistic100 love all of them especially bladerunner ridley scott is one of my favourite directors and the truman show, very original. you must be a stanley kubrick fan this i would assume because i am. if your not i would recommend 2001 a space odyssey im sure you have seen it but if not you should because it is one of the greatest films ever made and the famous jump or match cut not sure which one it is (bone thrown in the air then cut to space station) is truly a work born of pure genius

  • "to VHS ... which was the tape thing ... "

    hahaha!

  • @90lysander lol

  • Mark Lawson's a charisma-free fat sweaty egg. How dare he criticise the master Sir Ridley.

  • Legend and Blade Runner are the best atmospheric films ever in the 80's. It was way ahead of its time.

  • he does make quality films. legend was actually pretty gd for a pure fantasy film

  • i love that guy!!! thanks for so many awesome movies!

  • Agreed.

  • Enjoy this man's work while he's here because once he's gone there will never be another like him. Old school directors like him are becoming increasingly rare in this hyper all style no substance culture we live in.

  • Agreed. Like all the greats, he has an air of WISDOM about him... Hitchcock to Spielberg...et cetera.

  • Great director great films

  • "Which doesn't work and nobody really likes." Holy shit, said that right to his face. Dick.

  • Great guy!

  • Lot's of respect.

  • wise words, fuck the press who they hell do they think they are

  • Top man great director

  • funny that he doesn't think that bladerunner isn't considered a success by box office standards, when it fact its a certified classic and has tremendously influenced sci-fi cinema.

  • ridley scott have to be the most genius director ever.

i love all of his movies and hes my hero

  • Ditto. He made me realize that films can be both art and entertainment.

  • I totally agree with you sir.

I have studied the matter and wouldn't hesitate to say that Art always Entertain. How ever, in order to enjoy the entertainment brought to one, one must be willing to accept said message and understand it.

An old roomer is that Art is what people accepted by the Artistic world consider to be Art.

I rather think that Art is everything that one can have an opinion of.

    Thank You!

  • @ridlazz921 Why does he have to?

  • The man has a ginormous ego. I actually liked A Good Year quite a lot but didn't care much for Gladiator.

  • @ridlazz921 I love him too ans greatly admire him I mean Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Metchstick Men, American Ganster, Body Of Lies and Robin Hood, buyt he did have bad films like Legend, 1492 GI Gane, White Squal, KOH, and ofcourse A Good Year, he is still one of the best tough!!!!!!

  • @reviewreviewer1 Both KOH and Legend were ruined by Hollywood interference. If you watch the directors cuts, they are 100X better.

  • @17thSHIT KOH was but Legend was cut by Scott himself, but I actually saw the directors cuts they are still very flawed.

  • @reviewreviewer1 Well then that's down to opinion, but he is an epic director.

  • @17thSHIT Yeah he directed many great films, but I mean Legend was very weird and was thin on story and caracters and Kingdom, of Heaven claimed that al religions coul claim Jerezalem, what, the Jews and Christians were their millenia before the Muslims, if you own something someone else can`t claim it.

  • He's right though, it's more important to pick your own standard to judge against, as far as making practical changes goes.

  • Well he should, he's a godamn genius

  • He has a sober view of the film industry. and the man is a genius.

"stop reading the press!" grate advice.

    Thank You.
