What you get on these videos is what I always longed for on the Dan recordings; extended solos. They're not note for note but that's what improvisation is all about. However, most of Steely Dan's songs would have been great vehicles to have muscians improvise and trade solos. This is a great band and one of the most long lasting good bands in the history of fusion rock/jazz.
Guitar solo is killer. It brings a new feel to the song, and displays talent and imagination. The overall song is so good I could listen to this track over and over...wait I have! Thanks
The band rox..end of story....I'd give my left testicle to be one of the back up singers for one night....OK OK both testicles..provided it was a gr8 night
I am so impressed that his voice still sounds like it did back in the 70's. Wow the memories this brings back. I remember back then they played the same songs on the radio SO MUCH you (well I did) got sick of them. They still sound great
there are not a lot of concerts that i NEED to see...... the DAN is absolutely one i need to the next time they are out... at ANY cost.... i have enjoyed their sublime sound for far too long without being there for the ambiance..... God bless them for their efforts!!!
Finally a decent sounding Steely Dan LIVE concert on YT and the video looks great too. I think anyone should appreciate this music after listening to the over processed, corporate Top 40 music stuff. Check out AJA (4/18)!
Ha! My only comment, was going to be about the guitar riff. Looks like thats been covered. Still have to chime in mine. I got the impression, from the "making of," that it was almost miraculous, how the right guy and sound, showed up. It's an unforgettable riff. Singular. An unforgettable riff, for an unforgettable tune. Nice work, by the guy who toured with them. Except for him, the whole crew might've lost something on their "fastball" by now, but I would love to see them, if I had enough $.
How bout you clowns stop the non-sense douchbaggery with worthless paragraphs about crap that nobody's gonna read??? Just STFU already and enjoy the music!!!
Jon Herrington is one of the most talented guitarists playing today! I've heard him do improvised solos on "Peg" at least 10 to 12 times over the past several years, and no two solos are the samew ... but ALL of his solos are superb!!!
Timeless classics, never completely tire of them. I say completely because usually when I play songs I like a number of times, I do often tire of them. But even with the DAN, I have to give it a rest because it serves to heighten my enjoyment when I revisit them, and I don't wait to long, I might add.
Classic. Classic. Classic. Just a perfect song and hearing Michael on backup clinches the deal. Whole band just kicked booty. Pray I can see them live some day.
Love it! My only complaint is the video producer doesn't seem to have a clue about what is going on. Soloists are shown that aren't the ones playing. It also has odd transitions.
@ 1:24 who is the singer on the left in the pink dress? She is really pretty and sexy. Plus she is a great singer too, as they all are. Damn I love this band so much!
got to stick up for herrington here, thats way out of order, the guy captures that original sound with a little twist. And can you play guitar stuartrossdavies(twat).
Amazing the nerve of these armchair quaterbacks...who if they are lucky...play at the local Holiday inn and at Church recitals. Yet they post here and insult talented musicians.

I'm so happy to see all the great comments concerning this guitar player.
I agree with what Eddie said about his pull-offs. I also dislike his hand tone and think his attack is not as good as some of his predecessors. At least he has the phrasing down. That guy they used on the '96 tour hit this solo like a bull in a china shop. It was almost one big phrase.
Wow, I really tore into this guy. But hey, he took the Steely Dan gig. He's walking in some big shoes.
There is no way that that Harrington can win. If he plays the solo note-for-note, people would complain that he is a copycat and can't be original. If he changes it, people are outraged that he would tamper with perfection.
Here's the deal: the horn lines are written parts, not improvised solos. During a solo musician is supposed to take the concept and interpret it. While I don't like everything he plays, I think he walks a decent line between honoring the original and doing his own thing.
@perilousRelish well said and i agree its a no win game i do love all the original solos they always seem to find some great way of embellishing a great tune w/ a classic lead its not easy to do..
Criminy...you are right. Amazing these discussions come up. The reality is nothing happens in that band without Becker and Fagan's approval and/or direction. That guy played what he was told to. I suspect he was told to work his solo up, it was approved and that was all he was allowed to do. If they wanted him to play Graydon's solo, he'd be doing it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why does Herrington insist on doing this horrible pull-off solo all the time now? I firmly believe Jay Graydon's solo is as much an integral part as the horn parts or the backing vocals, and anyone playing lead guitar on this song should feel absolutely honour-bound to replicate it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I could not agree more! However, when I mentioned this very thing a in another Peg clip on youtube everyone wanted to hang me, check it out. When I think of Peg, I think of the guitar solo, why is it such a chore for someone to replicate it. I hear all of the other parts the same, yet the guitar player thinks his solo is better......wrong! Thanks...and glad someone feels as I do. P. S. Not to say I mind hearing some of Harrington's guitar work, just do it at the end.
so the other day, my guitarist comes to my apartment to offload 264 bottles of various iterations of Pepsi. As a Coca-Cola drinker, it was one of the most underwhelming moments of my life.
This is great comedy that rarely happens in real life and is written frequently in sit-coms. Someone calls someone else dumb and immediately turns around and demonstrates their own lack of knowledge. Got a good laugh.

Yes. Of course. To you McDonald is a sacred cow and no one can tell the truth as they see it regarding his lameness.
