  • Herington's solo made every hair on my head stand up. Truly amazing.

  • John "Freakin" Herington and an amazing solo.....magic fingers!

  • Great solo by John on the strings!

  • tha mutafuckin shiznit! lovely sound, really beautiful! michael mcdonald's still got it!

  • I was there! What a memorable concert......

  • Drummer could have played better! random bass drum kicks everywhere

  • @satanjd666

    bernard purdy.... wat a legend!

  • @haywoodyablome1

dats actually him playin, u obviously have not got one clue wat ur talkin about!!!!

if u cant spot an off beat when it changes to 6/4 giv it up dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Michael McDonald is out singing the backup singers. Hahaha. Great music with real instruments. Yaayh!!!

  • What you get on these videos is what I always longed for on the Dan recordings; extended solos. They're not note for note but that's what improvisation is all about. However, most of Steely Dan's songs would have been great vehicles to have muscians improvise and trade solos. This is a great band and one of the most long lasting good bands in the history of fusion rock/jazz.

  • I have seen several different Harrington Solo's and the man is an Awesome guitarist I don't care who you stand beside him......Period !

    DAHN B

  • Thats a GREAT take on that guitar solo not note for note but true to it.

  • I saw these guys this same year in Cincinnati. Wonderful.

  • Guitar solo is killer. It brings a new feel to the song, and displays talent and imagination. The overall song is so good I could listen to this track over and over...wait I have! Thanks

  • Harrington, right? Man is stout. May not be perfect but he'a WAY out in front of whoever is in second place...

  • This song is a prime example of beyond perfection in music

  • Love that Michael McDonald is playing here too! What an awesome rendition of the era's best tunes. Would love to see these guys live.

  • This is the song/band that changed my view of music (at the age of ten). They fused jazz with rock in a way that has never been matched.

  • If you don't like the Dan, you need your ass kicked. Enough said.

  • damn guitar solo is a gem. great improve while remaining true to the "perfection" of the original.

  • So much talent, this is real music-Give Me More!!!!

  • Excellent all around... Anybody know what kind of glasses Donald Fagen is wearing?

  • @mrplavick9 Sunglasses

  • The band rox..end of story....I'd give my left testicle to be one of the back up singers for one night....OK OK both testicles..provided it was a gr8 night

  • I am so impressed that his voice still sounds like it did back in the 70's. Wow the memories this brings back. I remember back then they played the same songs on the radio SO MUCH you (well I did) got sick of them. They still sound great

  • This band is a perfect example of where soul and rock meet right in the middle, you get this awsome sound.

  • there are not a lot of concerts that i NEED to see...... the DAN is absolutely one i need to the next time they are out... at ANY cost.... i have enjoyed their sublime sound for far too long without being there for the ambiance..... God bless them for their efforts!!!

  • Finally a decent sounding Steely Dan LIVE concert on YT and the video looks great too. I think anyone should appreciate this music after listening to the over processed, corporate Top 40 music stuff. Check out AJA (4/18)!

  • whoever voted negative on this is a fuckin dumbass.

  • SOUL!!!!!!!!

  • I couldn't really give a rat's ass what the neverbeens out there think, Herington does a great interpretation of the solo.

  • I really can't fathom listening to the original solos after hearing Herington improv them better and differently every night

    So damn talented

  • Not a part of the Pepsi Generation, that Donald Fagen.

  • @superlive98

Pepsi's just to much sweet, don't you say.

  • Ha! My only comment, was going to be about the guitar riff. Looks like thats been covered. Still have to chime in mine. I got the impression, from the "making of," that it was almost miraculous, how the right guy and sound, showed up. It's an unforgettable riff. Singular. An unforgettable riff, for an unforgettable tune. Nice work, by the guy who toured with them. Except for him, the whole crew might've lost something on their "fastball" by now, but I would love to see them, if I had enough $.

  • it's michael mcdonald

  • Hey was that Kenny Rogers or Burl Ives??? Lol. Love this song..

  • The guitar solo is good. But the bass line in this song is the real jewel.

  • duspara je gay...

  • How bout you clowns stop the non-sense douchbaggery with worthless paragraphs about crap that nobody's gonna read??? Just STFU already and enjoy the music!!!

  • Jon Herrington is one of the most talented guitarists playing today! I've heard him do improvised solos on "Peg" at least 10 to 12 times over the past several years, and no two solos are the samew ... but ALL of his solos are superb!!!

  • Timeless classics, never completely tire of them. I say completely because usually when I play songs I like a number of times, I do often tire of them. But even with the DAN, I have to give it a rest because it serves to heighten my enjoyment when I revisit them, and I don't wait to long, I might add.

  • Pack it in Fagan, your prime waved bye bye to you a long time ago.

  • @adamjkel7 I take it that QUITE a few spectators disagree....

  • Kinda looks like a white Ray Charles here.

  • Classic. Classic. Classic. Just a perfect song and hearing Michael on backup clinches the deal. Whole band just kicked booty. Pray I can see them live some day.

  • Very tasteful solo and his tone is killer.

  • Great music. Harrington's masterful

  • 5stars out of 4

  • I was at this show front row! One of the greatest bands that has ever lived!!! What a show!

  • PLEASE--just keep touring,,,,year after year--and for just a little while I can forget about all the shit out there now that they call pop music

  • Of all the songs posted 4 this concert..this is ONLY one as good as the original..Great Job!

  • So Fagen is a Coca-Cola man, huh? (as opposed to being a Pepsi guy). More power to him!

  • *Harrington

  • the first spelling was correct

  • Jon Herington, we are not worthy.

  • well,,,the man uses a role of duct tape for a cup holder, gotta love him!!!! Stay cool, Donald

    John

  • Turn the bass guitar up!

  • Love it! My only complaint is the video producer doesn't seem to have a clue about what is going on. Soloists are shown that aren't the ones playing. It also has odd transitions.

  • spoddie, Walter Becker's guitar is a Sadowsky. Not sure what Herringon's is

  • It's a GIbson CS-336.

  • MacDonald MAKES the song! His vocals are SO distinctive they add a GREAT soul flavor to ANY song!

  • any one know what that guitar is?

  • its a customized CS-336 with different pickups and a modified pot setup

  • Great band!! The Dan rocks! Nice Coke holder - a roll of ductape

  • sanguinous engorgement of c.cavernosum

  • Michael Fuckin' McDonald Motherfucker! Fuck Yeah!

  • @dumbutt3000

Michael McDonald's voice makes the song!! Phenom!!

  • @dumbutt3000 damn right :-)

  • @dumbutt3000 I do believe that is his correct full name. thankyouverymuch.

  • my first girlfriend's name was Peg.....

  • fantastic version. really nice groove here. fagen is loving it.

  • @ 1:24 who is the singer on the left in the pink dress? She is really pretty and sexy. Plus she is a great singer too, as they all are. Damn I love this band so much!

  • @thegreatbasher It is the most exquisite Carolyn Leonhart-Escoffery. And she is mine.

  • @whatlooksrightisrigh Right on dude! Love em!

  • nice stuff

  • got to stick up for herrington here, thats way out of order, the guy captures that original sound with a little twist. And can you play guitar stuartrossdavies(twat).

  • I really wish I was there...awesome.

  • Amazing the nerve of these armchair quaterbacks...who if they are lucky...play at the local Holiday inn and at Church recitals. Yet they post here and insult talented musicians.

    ROTFL !

  • Comment removed

  • Herrington is a mother fucker. I don't see Fagen or Becker calling any of you fucking losers to dep for him.

  • This is tight! ( ^ _ ^ ) Fagen is the man!

  • Jon.... that's wonderful guitar solo

  • IMHO i think harrington maybe got the idea from wayne krantz, he uses a lot of pulloffs-especially on the two drink minimum album

  • There is no way that that Harrington can win. If he plays the solo note-for-note, people would complain that he is a copycat and can't be original. If he changes it, people are outraged that he would tamper with perfection.

Here's the deal: the horn lines are written parts, not improvised solos. During a solo musician is supposed to take the concept and interpret it. While I don't like everything he plays, I think he walks a decent line between honoring the original and doing his own thing.

  • @perilousRelish well said and i agree its a no win game i do love all the original solos they always seem to find some great way of embellishing a great tune w/ a classic lead its not easy to do..

  • @perilousRelish

Criminy...you are right. Amazing these discussions come up. The reality is nothing happens in that band without Becker and Fagan's approval and/or direction. That guy played what he was told to. I suspect he was told to work his solo up, it was approved and that was all he was allowed to do. If they wanted him to play Graydon's solo, he'd be doing it.

  • Jon Harrington xx the guitarist .. Is just superb !! a lot of people give him a hard time !! ?? I don't know Why !!! he is playing .. many different solo's different styles ... god .. steely dan had so many amazing guitarist's ... all the best .. in the business .. and Jon harrington has to play .. all the solo's and the style's these guy's played ... I think he is just amazing xx

  • that guitar player is on a different planet than 99.9% of all other guitar players.

  • Donald Fagen drinks Coca-Cola...shouldn't YOU drink Coca-Cola.

  • so the other day, my guitarist comes to my apartment to offload 264 bottles of various iterations of Pepsi. As a Coca-Cola drinker, it was one of the most underwhelming moments of my life.

  • Well said.

  • Donal Fagen should actually do Coke commercials - remember when Ray Charles did the "you got the right one baby" Pepsi commercials?

  • Who is the featured guitarist here? Good stuff!

I love Steely Dan; but, the saddest thing about them was their willingness to use Michael McDonald. Yuch.

  • I totally agree. All he can do is re-makes. His style gets old quick.

  • don't bash Mike...he has an amazing voice. of course he sounds much better in the studio recording of this song.

  • If you want to critique an artist, why don't you do it with some intelligence. "Sacred cow"...what the hell does that even mean?

  • This is great comedy that rarely happens in real life and is written frequently in sit-coms. Someone calls someone else dumb and immediately turns around and demonstrates their own lack of knowledge. Got a good laugh.

Here is the definition of sacred cow from the online dictionary:

an individual, organization, institution, etc., considered to be exempt from criticism or questioning.

  • I saw this particular show with Michael McDonald. The guy I was with and I just laughed at the cheesy Michael McDonald opening set. It's not awesome music like Steely Dan but it does have a comical value to it.

  • his vocal accuracy is incredible, 4 part harmony w/vibrato on the original recording, but yeah his solo stuff is way lame.

  • Yup, it's Michael McDonald! Doesn't hit the notes as high now!! Ever notice Fagen looks rather "Ray Charlesy" these days?

  • Wasn't that White Ligntning McDonald there? Thanks a bunch for yet another outstanding post!

  • Great sound and video quality Carlos! Thanks for sharing with all of us, Love & Happiness!

  • Keep 'em coming Carlos!!

  • ...great live Dan post! thanks much! 5*****
