Hey there Methead8503, I played in the Guitar Center Drum off as well. I did not place the 1st year. But I placed the 2nd in 2007. But did not when to Distict. But I agree they have judges that don't really care about textures or grooves that much. Just how fast are your chops.
So I agree with you on not really being that professional of judges and whatever else.
Please don't anyone take this the wrong way. I thought this was an excellent solo and a great performance. But I noticed that this solo and the championship round solo were very similar. I just wondered if there was a rule about that. I saw that Donnie actually commented below. Seriously man I thought this was great, just curious about the similarity in the solos.
LOL this is i think just 10 times cooler than any drum video ever just cause the crowds reaction about everything and how he did stick flips and other cool stuff in places you would never think of putting one and i love at the end when a guy screams YOU WON !!! YOU WON!!!
mother fucker he lives in my town me and my friend got drum lessons from him.. he lives in moorefield and keyser west virginia and he performed earlier today at keyser high school and is performing tonight at 7 for 3 bucks.. and you must be crazy if you say hes "ok" because hes the #1 drummer in the world no doubt
I dont like guitar center drum off is a stupid contest, think about it what does it matter if some so called judge likes one guys playing more than anothers does that make one guy better than the other, well it could possibly but for the most part its opinion and also I believe guitar center judges are biased and fixed about choosing only head honcho approved winners consiting of flashy styles with much showmanship and mostly only latin style players!
I totally agree. I played in the guitar center drum off several years back when I was maybe 15 years old. Two of the three judges didn't show up and they were asking anyone to judge. They had even asked my dad who doesn't know a thing about drumming. I went up against a guy who had been playing for about 30 years and was destroying the kit. And then against a 9 year old who ended up beating me due to "cuteness factor" because his solo was not good. I can't take this competition seriously since.
I shoot you not i used the double stick on the H/H application off a solo i did on the Marimba, the stick on stick from Micky Burmer's Snare solo, behind the back from stock quad solo stuff and stick flips inspired by John Blackwell on my Drum Off Solo.
sooo he plays the same solos at every competition
