  • rip cesere siepi-

  • Sounds like the pitch is a tone sharp -- maybe half a tone...

  • Procurem no Orkut por Cesare Siepi e participem da comunidade. São muitos mp3 disponíveis e procuramos pessoas com novos mp3 deste fenômeno.

  • To vonmeppen, simply cause they was respecting the every singer criteria and identity; a conduct that if you refrain to nowdays everyone that have the notes want to sing from soprano to basso profondo everything...Singers like mr. Tibbett they don't want to be a bass for a day, a category that back in his days was a very top alltime basses singig in all major opera houses.

  • I cannot see why a dark coloured baritone like Tibbett should not be able to sing this piece very well, also a Bass-Baritone like London or even van Dam. There are no low notes in it. Listen to Tibbett singing the rondeau of gounods faust! it's marvelous.

  • None of the singers you mention had a clue about legato, or Italian style; great voices, yes, and all supreme in Russian repertoire. In Italian repertoire, Siepi was supreme. I admit that I am a sophisticated listener.

  • Go get 'em Billy! "Better artists" - c'mon! They were all great for their particular contributions to our great art.

  • frick, ghiaurov, christoff, siepi

i think they were the best basses

  • Molto bravo! Un grandissimo cantante a cui va tutto il nostro affetto. Grazie.

  • What year was this recording ?

  • Thank you, how precious and rare!I still adore him - no other bass can compare with him.

  • I love Siepi's singing and artistry, but can name you 10 bassos who can compare with him.

  • I want to hear this list of 10 please? I can name 5 who I think are better or equal in ways with Siepi. Mardones, Ghiaruov, Neri, Giaiotti, Young Hines. Who else? Perhaps Journet but he was more of a Bass-Baritone.

  • If I may compare: Mardones was a great vocalist but the interpreter nor actor Siepi was. Ghiarouv was great when he was on, but he had "off-nights" often when he wasn't good at all...Siepi was consistently brilliant. Neri didn't have anything close to Siepi's top, while Siepi (imo)had the better bottom. Giaiotti I hardly know. The young Hines was the vocal equal, but again not as great an interpreter nor actor.

Cesare Siepi the GREATEST Italian Basso all things considered.

  • Chaliapin, Pinza, Reizen, Christoff, Journet, Frick, Moll, Van Dam, Schorr, Tibbett.

Well, I cheated a little with the last 2 or 3, but they could easily sing basso roles. At the same time I did not include Ghiaurov, whose voice too wooly for my taste. But how could anybody forget Pinza?!

  • van dam, schorr, and tibbett could defininetly NOT easliy sing bass roles. van dam and schorr were bass-baritones, and tibbett was a baritone. Just b/c they had darker colors to their voice doesn't mean they could sing the roles. i have van dam doing sarastro arias and his low notes (just Fs) are incredibly weak

  • I would say that most of the bassos can not handle properly the lower parts of "Isis and Osiris" aria. The only perfect rendition that I heard came from Moll. Tibett's bottom was so solid that he could sing basso parts, but not profundo, of course.

  • all real basses should be able to sing sarastro. and they usually can. hines, reizen, talvela, frick, moll, siepi and christoff (could have if they wished)

sarastro is not an unusually low bass role and it certainly does not require a profundo. it is a quite normal bass role.

  • Oops. Replace anyone you don't like in my list with Di Angelis.

  • Great lists guys and a good breakdown primob. My list are my top favorites including Siepi. I prefer the sweetness of Mardones' tone over Siepi's though. I will concur that Siepi is probably the Greatest Italian Basso, based partly on his huge body of work. Pinza was fantastic but too mannered for my tastes. Christoff, Reizen, Frick, Moll(dont know Schorr or VD) are not in Siepi's league. Tibbet doesn't count, but was phenomenal. Perhaps I can add Tajo and Pasero.

  • But also let me say this video of Siepi singing Ave Signor is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I am completely blown away by it. This is one for the records, SERIOUSLY!

  • Frick and Moll are difficult to compare, since they occupied different spheres of the basso repertoire. Reizen's work is not well represented on records, but he sang pretty much everything and the voice was phenomenal. Christoff is certainly in Siepi's league, vocally, dramatically, and he was every bit as versatile. You can sample VD on YT. :-) Schorr was the greatest bass-baritone voice I ever heard.

  • I'm sorry but Friedrich Schorr sounded absolutely horrible on most of his Met broadcasts, hooting on around on all the higher notes. Before that in his prime (which didn't last long) he did have some great phrasing. But as far as Wagner baritones go, George London rules supreme for me.

  • Thank you for the video. C P Vienna

  • Siepi was just awesome. Thanks a lot for sharing this interesting video!
