  • Her presence in New Start might even have been an experiment for the staff on the patients to better understand them. All of this documentary is, generally, for a better understanding of hikikomori and, thus in the long run, helping those who suffer from it. @Y10NRDY @Aminovitch92i

  • Why are you guys talking about her like that?? She's from a different country, and this exam pressure stuff and hikikomori is new to both her and her viewers--who are from that different country. If this is a one stop documentary, she's definitely not an ethnographer, so give her credit for caring--she's showing it in the only way she knows how because of how her country raises their people. @Y10NRDY @Aminovitch92i

  • 7:20 she is treating them like retards ! wich prove that she is the retard

  • This woman appears capable of doing more harm to the organization than good. Imagine stepping out of your room for the first time in five years only to be ambushed by this large, obnoxious, insensitive Swede

  • @Simrekinus she's dutch, as in from the netherlands.

  • what's with the song's lyrics "I can be an ashole of the grandest kind"????!!!

  • Japan's craziness is creating all these crazies. What a great place to live LOL

  • those old people look like empty batteries, japan works them to the bare bone

  • I like the part where she's screaming at the camera with children taking an exam in the background telling us that they have to get all the answers right even with noise.. Nice =P

  • what's the song at 6:31?

  • @barracudatheband It's called Please Forgive Me by David Gray.

  • This documentary reminded me just how shithouse Alanis Morissette is.

  • 6:22 there taking a test bitch and they only can take it once a year wtf was she doing lol

  • hikkikomoris have a nice life... i envy them they dont have responsibilities :(

  • @anonymous133711 They also don't have friends or social interaction. Think about it the way you would a dog (not that I'm saying that people are like animals), but any breed of dog that isn't socalized at all shys away from contact and can quickly turn agressive or frightened when confronted with such. Could you imagine living in fear of the outside world?

  • @xbrokenXcrayonsx well theres always internet alternatives like youtube and forum for social needs, theres nothing to be feared of as long as the one you fear doesnt kill you right?

in my opinion hikkis have a good life, better than those who are in 3rd world

  • @anonymous133711 Yes and anyone who's on the computer right now has a better life than a person in a third world country. That goes without saying and is a poor example. I honestly hope that you don't actually believe that online forums substitute for social interaction. There's a big difference between talking to someone on the internet and seeing them face to face. If you pick up any good physchology book you'll see that interactions play a big part in our everyday life and why.

  • @xbrokenXcrayonsx i have studied psychology and yes indeed still a big gap into an actual social interactions, birds flock together, in idiomatic expressions, anywho there's no way these guys are below to the point that they need to be pitied

i agree most of these hikkis are living in fear of outside world, when theres nothing to be afraid of

  • @anonymous133711 Not an opposition here. I just think it depends on how you view and categorize pity. For events and happenings that are more saddening than being a hikki I feel more sympothy and empathy (though not as often as the former) as opposed to pity. Many people see pity as a bad thing because of their pride and I am no different. So I was just implying that I feel sorry for them...although it was certainly in a more condesending manner rather than genuine.

  • @xbrokenXcrayonsx there is no need to sympathize them or feel sorry for them, they're living in a paradise

  • @anonymous133711 You definately didn't understand what I just said...I don't have sympathy for them. The type of feeling I have reguarding them can almost be seen as insincere as it connotates with feelings of superiority.

I can tell you that after spending all summer sick and feeling like I didn't want to go outside or speak with anyone, that this past September has been like a rebirth. I feel so much more alive being able to indulge in my social life and college.

  • @xbrokenXcrayonsX that's why i indicated or in the sentence, anywho i respect your opinion

  • @anonymous133711 It´s sorta like a phobia, where you always expect the worst scenario in every single case. It is often linked to panic anxiety and every person who´ve experienced it knows that it is so immensly strong that you can´t bear to experience anything like it again, thus creating a fear of the panic anxiety itself. Rather than facing the anxiety many choose to avoid everything that might cause it. For some it means all there is left to do that is "safe" is staring at the walls.

  • @Powadroid they have to grow a pair of balls then

  • @anonymous133711 Well, I wouldn´t put it like that. Since it´s a disorder, an irrational fear, you can´t solve it by just toughen up. You have to not only face your fear but most importantly "relearn" that most scary situations are really nothing to be afraid of.

  • @Powadroid nah they need to grow a pair, the disorder was in them they're too pussy to go outside, they're not capable of living because they choose so

  • @anonymous133711 lol trolololol

  • @CallmeAffiliated hehehe

  • @xbrokenXcrayonsx I second that!

  • the pressure is very scary.

  • I have to admit the Dutch girl seems like she's rubbing it in.

  • @spartan159 HAHA yea that music is real shit here

  • ...What's with the really insensitive music. Wow. Doesn't relate at all to the material.

  • Leave them alone to do their exams!

  • 2:23 two Gals xdd

  • learning all the time is absolutely not healthy...

  • 7:30PM to 10:00PM are you fucking kidding me with this shit? Society is gonna fucking explode soon. We are just starting to witness the collapse of this great world we have created and born into. Earth needs to start over with a clean slate.

  • you know its a good program when the view count drops by 2 thirds from part 1 to part 2. this is the worst "documentary" i have ever seen. i guess she must have gotten bored between recording pop songs and decided to run around japan being a jackass, using these poor guys to inflate her self-esteem

  • i would be cured if she came by....and very happy

  • In my country you also have entrance exam for elementary, highschool and university, probably not that difficult, but, some are learning for months to get in, especially at Architecture, Medicine, Medicine study last for 10 years, but some people study it for 15 and more...so you learn from 20. to 35. year of life and more.

  • Btw looking back at this now.....holland is the exact opposite of japan. But here people go depressed and lock themselves up because of lack of pressure, learning lack of pressure. In my genes it says 'lazy bum' but my last straw of hope was actually having more of a drill instructor with me motivating me to work harder in what I'm good at. Here when I was mad about a C...I got comments 'are you a geek? be glad' and even some teachers are unmotivated dumb'sses here. Bad. Education. here.

  • Don't hate on the Dutch those are my peeps! Ik vind haar mooi! Japan is altijn interresant vor mijn, en ik kan mijn Nederlands oefenen. LOL

  • This bitch belongs in porn not tabloid Journalism......so stop using your mouth to talk bridget thats not what it's ment for....now start sucking ..... gooood that's it that's what you were born to do...

  • omfg i feel like im a hikikomori, but i dont just stay in my room, but i dont go outside or to school. ;\

  • they could group together and play games and check email right? no one talks. just the presence of...wait i dont beleive ive seen a girl hikikomori right?

  • @stevo2099 There are.

  • @stevo2099

Female Hikikomori's exist. And Hikikomori's may comunicate with people via internet, but not outside of that. If so, quite rarely.

  • Be thankful to your parents if they loved you

no matter what kind of grades you got

in school,,, it could be totally different.

  • Be appreciate to your parents if

they loved you no matter what kind of

    grades you got in school.

  • wow... the University in Japan is all about standard and quality... while in my country, all they care about is money... Definitely a great place to raise my kids there in the future...

  • @Juggernaughty824 In the 19th - 20th century the Japanese based thier education system on the best in the World at that time - Britains. While standards have gotten lower and exams easier in the West, the East has maintained its high standards and so while there is indeed more pressure, a consistently higher level is achieved.. The West needs to go back to its previous high standards IMO - bring back discipline too (but done in a sensible way & explain to the kids WHY they learn a subject)..

  • 金髪の司会は可愛くて美しいですね。

  • cockballs can't won't fail at life

  • Lolitas spotted on 03:22! :P I don't really see how Japanese street styles are related to the subject, though... Maybe to youngsters in general, but i guess they're just trying to replace the lack of Hikikomoris on screen with nice street shots...

Btw, hate the presentor, but it's also quite funny how she's taller than EVERYONE she talks to xD The Japanese must think all Dutch people are giants :P

  • @StopMotionRabbit Hey man, those are the genetics - Europeans ARE giants compared to most Orientals. Its about the different diets too..

  • @andy7666 I know, I am Dutch :P And yes, most Europeans are huge compared to Asian people and yes it has do do with a) genetics and b) the food. But that doesn't make it less funny to see this enormous blonde woman towering above a group of tiny black-haired Japanese folks. :P

  • esta en español????

  • @framorcas How the hell did you get to Spanish?? Dutch may sound like German or maybe some Scandinavian languge to foreigners, but it doesn't sound anything like Spanish... :S

  • @StopMotionRabbit jajajajajaj vuelvo a preguntar:

este documental lo puedo encontrar en español?????

me interesa mucho el tema. graciassssss

  • Comment removed

  • @framorcas Yo no lo creo. No habla Ingles?

  • I disagree aswell with the musical choice, it annoys me, aswell as the host, 'Bridget Maasland'. I can't stand her and she's frequently on dutch television.

This 'doc' is from a programme called 'BNN at work' in which young adolescent hosts travel the world to check on some phenomena in a 'youthful' naive manner. I guess that's why they have her looking bimbo and the music. The main audience is teen and adolescent.

  • @Laroling "Youthful"? Shes a battered old hag! XD

Lol, no shes very beautiful - Dutch women are awesome in general..

  • I like "Hikikomori" word

it's interesting to find and know it

they like to create their world in one room ...

  • I really hate this woman.

  • @Y10NRDY Are you a weeaboo?

  • @NeoTranshuman Are you an nerd?

  • @Y10NRDY why?

  • 2:25 i spotted yamanba :P

  • shit i wish when i was a kid or young adult i could have stayed in my fucking room for nine years playing video games and watching tv... my parents would have kicked my ass to the curb for sure though.

  • 3:24

  • 5 mins documentary - 5 mins shit music...

  • if you can't sympathized with your friend you get kick out from the group you were in

  • Shame that this sad and interesting phenomenon wasn't treated in a better way. A silly euro trash (I'm from Europe too so don't whine) documentary "host" walking around trying to do a show while she really doesn't have a clue about the issue and then we have the oh so artistic music inbetween the scenes.

  • @tuktuktok I think I agree. I love David Gray but the music is silly in this context (especially playing that one song over and over). The "host" wears pigtails and mini blouses...she hardly exudes credibility. The worst part is around 6:10 when she focuses on the studying students and says things like "I feel sorry for them! This is not a good country for me!" while they are trying to take a test! Yet the children probably do not even realize they are being criticized. Not good journalism.

  • @tuktuktok I know right, she works for BNN and BNN payed the trip all the way to japan for her plain costs, and a place to stay just so she could make a documentary about hikikomori, and all she had to do is ask some questions about hikikomori and exam pressure or something :S.

After all that she probably stayed around 2 or 3 weeks longer and had the time of her life. it was better if she actually put some more effort in the questions and video material.

  • The influences of of Islam in Germany are fault that I almost became or even actually am socially withdrawn!!!

Islam got to be banned from USA, Europe and Japan!

  • check the girls at 2.10 !! I would not lock myself inside my room with such girls walking outside.

  • Normal or abnomal jude by quantity?

    If Hikikomori're most people.?Can u call Hikikomori're abnomal?

I think hikikomori not social poblem

May be Nomal ppl call Hikikomori like that

they destroy the world more than Hikikomori.Who're nomal ppl for the world?Normal or abnomal jude by quantity?

  • I imagine Hikikomori to be like you killed yourself...only that you still feel.

They throw away their lives in some way...it's so sad...makes me glad to have caring friends who make me go out with them and enjoy life ^^

  • I disagree with your "killing yourself" philosophy alot. They are still living, even then, and they can return, unlike dead people.

  • Sure they're still alive actually...but in some way it must feel like they're no part of this world anymore, ergo they're dead in some way.

    That's what it wanted to say...but it's just my opinion ^^;

But youre right...there's still a way for them to return even though it will be very hard...and that makes a big difference of course!

  • stop playing this bad song

  • The problem with the Japanese school system is that instead of encourages creativity, it reinforces stifling conformity and memorization.

  • sometimes conformity is a good thing, japans benefitted greatly from its conformity and collectivism

  • 4:40, total hotness!

I know the host's hotness isn't supposed to be the point of this doc, but anyways...

  • I love how she looks so typically Dutch witht he blond braids.

  • The reward for the fastest recovering Hikikomori is...A chance to sleep with the Host of this documentary lol

  • wij hebben ook cijferlijsten op de gang hangen... het is niet zozeer competatief, tegen alle verwachtingen in, echter -> je bent eerder geneigd om elkaar te steunen (of dat ligt aan mn school)

  • Rape games have been banned in Japan =3. And we all know the little girl really wanted it ;P.

  • fucktop men, exactly

  • wow rape games sound sexy.

  • Looks like classical PTSD symptoms hikikomori may occur every where but they're most common in places like Japan or Korea.

What causes it is pretty obvious the school system is too stressful too high expectations are placed on kids.

  • marijuana is the cure for hikikomori

  • Those examinees should be in bed by 10 p.m..By 9 o'clock, am sure they're looking at the clock anxiously.

  • The exams for entry need to be done away with.

A 13 year old should not have to deal with such pressure.

  • I agree with you on the 13 year olds but you heard what the guy said, they tutor even at Kindergarten level. What the hell?!!! I remember my first interview question for Kindergarten and it was, from what direction does the sun rise? Didn't need tutoring for that, just knowledge from my parents.

  • the girl being too beautiful makes it even harder for them

  • Yeah, and she obvously has no idea what they are going through.

  • i agree..she is like the opposite personality of hikkikomori

  • This is why I'd never move to japan. They're all about competing. It's a real problem when 10% of the kids are Hikikomori. they need hugs.

  • 1:27

  • that song is absolutely awful. SOounds like a wannabe dutch alanis morrisette. In the future, never play that song again. Not even for yourself in your own time.

    Sincerly,

    An american with good taste

  • what song?

  • the first song that plays between scenes (mostly in part 1). the second song, on the other hand, is excellent.

  • @sharpezor

Don't worry lol. I'm American too, I have no clue what this doucher is going on about XD

  • That song is in fact by Alanis Morrisette herself. I just looked it up, it's the song 'Everything'. The song is in the original TV-show itself, not added.

  • oh really? (blushes) my mistake.

  • Now your statement of "An american with good taste" is ironic.

  • @thegreatestbak2

Lol...That song is Alanis Morrisette. That theme is called Everything.

  • @thegreatestbak2 It is Alanis Morissette, the songs called "Everything."

  • @thegreatestbak2 Idiot

  • @thegreatestbak2 lol lmao

  • @thegreatestbak2 that IS Alanis Morissette bro.
