I think that Zuko didn't want that fact to cloud Aang's judgement of him. Zuko wanted to be accepted for himself--not some odd connetion.

This is so perfect for their relationship, cos Aang is the 'only one who knows that' Zuko has good in him, he has faith in Zuko even when he is in danger of death. And he's right, cos Zuko always was awesome and (SPOILER) is now even more so now that he's getting right with Aang =] (Book 3)
