  • Whenever I plug in my mic, it becomes a mic and cancels the speakers in my laptop. Is there anyway I can stop it from muting my laptop's speaker?

  • @TB26 Go into your sound preferences and make sure your "output" device is set to internal speakers.

  • @ransomtech Thank you very much.

  • Your review would have been a lot better if you actually talked into the proper side for cardiod at ANY point in time during it. :) BTW (its the front).

  • @Havraha You're not the first to point this out if you look through the comments. Since it was more of an "unboxing" and first look video, I hadn't even noticed that. Suffice to say, I now know.

  • i just got this mic to do game commentary and with all the setting high. i use videopad editor and when i replay my game with the commentary i sound low. what am i doing wrong?

  • @chriopez Can't say for sure. Try another recording app. If the same thing occurs, it could be your mic gain in your sound settings is too low. If it works as you expect in another app, it could be some setting in videopad editor

  • @chriopez I know what you are talking about cause I do lots of game commentary too, there are two causes of this one is because the game sound it too loud or/and your recording settings go check under recording. good luck. looking to get this mic too

  • Hi, I just got the yeti microphone :) But I don't know how to use it in my laptop. I am not sure which software i need for it to work....can i just use aktiv mp3 recorder ?? also I notice tht when I have the usb connected in my laptop (windows vista), i can't hear anything...i wanted to record a song with the music track...so in this case how do i sing with a music track and have it record me...????? i ammmm so confused and frustrated because i dont know how to use this thing :( pls HELP

  • @ripschow Not sure I can answer that... too many variables. You need to configure any USB mic in your audio/mic settings. I don't know about active mp3 recorder, but if you want to do anything even a little sophisticated, you need the right software. Audacity is free and it is a multi-track editor. You can import an mp3 track and then layer your voice on top of that. Plug your headphones into the mic so that you don't re-record the soundtrack coming out of your speakers. It takes time. Good luck

  • @ripschow I use audacity it should work im about to buy this mic today....i was going to get the Editors SL150 but they are sold out:(..and i need a mic asap cuz i rap haha

  • ok i know im going to sound stupid...but ...is this going to sound better then my iMac built in mic?

  • @cpthemonstergamer No question. Yes.

  • @ransomtech thanks i actually just when ahead an bought one on Amazon.....the reviews for this mic just seem the best. thanks for your comment.

  • I just got this and I'm wondering what the best settings are to record rap vocals? I didn't mess with the gain at all and it's on stereo pattern and it sounds like your listening to it through a door. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

  • @TheQuadroholics You can check the settings and the manual available at the vendor website.

Could it be that you are too close to the mic? It also depends on the settings of the software that you are using to record. The recording quality is partly driven by that.

  • this is more like it, good demo and recording

  • can u use it for skype?

  • @jeehoondevil You can use any microphone for Skype that you can configure to work on your computer. Within Skype preferences, you simply select the mic that you'd like to use. However, it would not be the greatest choice of mic for Skype... unless you also use your headphones. Otherwise, you may experience a feedback loop (echo) as the sound that comes out of your speakers is picked up by the microphone and begins to create an echo/loop.

  • @ransomtech a yes, thank you :)

  • So...

I rap. I just started, but im told im pretty good. No brag.

Anyways, to cut to the chase....i use audacity and a rock band USB mic to record my songs because its all i have and i just started, hahaha. So do you recommend this?

  • @ElCubano941 It's a good mic, but there are lots out there. Blue just came up with an even sweeter mic, too, the Yeti Pro bluemic.com/yetipro/

  • @ransomtech

so you think this would be good for me? and how is heard to be on audacity?

Cant afford the pro, hahaa. Im lucky, found two sites that sell the yeti for 100 instead of 150.

  • @ElCubano941 I've been really happy with it. Not sure what you are asking re: audacity.

  • Quincy, the quality of the mic is somewhat impacted by the software you are using to record with as well as your system's settings for your audio input, in this case, the Yeti. The Yeti mic itself has gain, but if ur system gain is not adjusted to an appropriate level, you will not be able to get the recording volume you want. They suggest that ur system input recording level be set to 3/4 so that u can use the Yeti mic to adjust from there. What OS are you using? There may be driver issues, 2

  • Hi, I got a Blue Yeti Microphone yestrday. Whenever I try to record, the audio is VERY quiet. I have the volume set to max on the microphone, and they grain is in the middle. When I turn the grain down, it works better, but the audio sounds no better than a normal mic. I also want to narrorate video game walkthroughs, so it's set on Cardiod. PLEASE HELP!

  • I realize that this review was after very little time with a product just out of the box, but in case you are still using it, and haven't corrected your technique, please note that in this video, the mic is incorrectly positioned. It is a side-address microphone. and should be tilted close to the straight up position, speaking towards its front face. Speaking towards its tip causes your audio to be slightly muffled, ringing or off-axis, and makes the capsules even more prone to plosives.

  • @lunarparcel Yes... thanks for that. Early on someone commented to that very thing. I wasn't paying attention at all to that in my unboxing video.

  • i realize this may be a stupid question, but i was going to record from my digital camera and sing into the microphone while its connected to the computer, my question is, when i play the video in my pc, is my quality going to be as good as urs?

  • @0091Viper The quality of your voice recording will be dependent upon the settings that you choose, so just experiment a little bit with the mic gain and the settings until you get the result you are happy with.

  • Here's the problem, that most people fail to understand... One can never know, exactly how your listeners are going to hear your audio.

That's because, everybody's speakers are going to have a different frequency response, which means agonizing over your microphone's sound is futile...

The reality is, judgments can only be based on what you hear from your own speakers... Guys love their gadgets, and I'm one of them... So whats the answer?... Find a microphone with a flat frequency response

  • To me it's a very colored sound... There seems to be a lot of bass boom, not at all natural sounding.... It would come through great on tinny sounding computer speakers, but since most speaker monitors these days are full fidelity, most listeners are gonna get BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.... Neutral sounding microphone with a Flat Frequency Response, is a better choice.

But Hey... that's just my opinion.

  • @phoenix11994466 I see what you are saying, but again, I just plugged it in out of the box and did not apply any EQ settings at all or compare the different microphone settings. There are many ways to tweak the sound to get the sound you are looking for.

  • How Much?

  • @KaolanGFX Google ;-)

  • So I could plug this into my computer, set it next to my amp, and record my guitar in mixcraft?

  • @ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Absolutely!

  • @ransomtech Why thank you for clarifying :) Now I gotta make 40 more dollars T.T

  • its true, this microphone has great quality. Im not sure if i should get this, or a Audio Technica 2020 & 2021 (both come in one package).

But whichever one i get, im still probably gunna get a Pop Filter & a Shock mount.

  • @d13mason Good ideas.

  • @d13mason what shock mount do you use for the yeti

  • Just as a note, you're holding it backwards in this video. I did the same thing too, wondering if I had been ripped off because the sound quality wasn't as good as those audio sample advertisements. Then I turned it around and noticed a significant increase in quality. Always try to record with the blue logo facing you and with the microphone facing up.

  • @MTslasher Thanks for that. I really was not paying any attention to mic placement during this overview, but will keep that in mind as I use it for intentional recording projects.

  • @MTslasher I see your point, however when I record my guitar with it I have to turn it down facing the guitar in which the USB connector gets caught on the included mic stand. Any ideas how to overcome this?

  • @thenetslug I noticed that too. The only real solution I can think of is maybe unsrewing the knobs on the side and taking the microphone off the stand. If you can find a lower surface to place it on so that it faces the guitar when it's lying down, that might solve your problem. If not, well, get creative.

  • @thenetslug I unscrew it from its stand and use a regular mic stand when needed

  • MrRocque, that is a good point. However, for me, that is not likely to be much of a concern. Adjusting the controls on the fly don't seem to be picked up by the mic.

  • as I've commented with other Yeti videos, its a nice idea for a mic, but Blue neglected an internal shock mount, so like all condenser mics, its prone to noises when its moved or 'shocked'. As you can hear. At the moment, there is NO shock mount available from Blue for the Yeti, and with all the controls on it, I'm not sure how one could address a shock mount while leaving the controls accessible.

  • Cool instructions -- how much would it cost?
