Something Republicans forget when they preach and point fingers at real or imagined dangers. Republican speakers remind us of dangers and what we have to fear. They also tell us we need them in office to keep us safe. That's the message in a nutshell. Why we should fear and how they are here to protect us.

I think Newt lost his patience to get conservatives in the majority again, and was willing to cut a few corners in building that base. So long as he admits he was wrong on this I am ok with it. We are moving away from a two party system to a system of multi-polarity (forgive the cliche). Small business republicans and Libertarians are in one huge fight with religious conservatives and big business interests. Newt is not used to operating in this new "parliamentary" environment.

Yea I know, electoral college concepts don't fit in 21st century Democracy. The people need to be able to chose who they really want to vote fore or at least more choices. Then there is the nominations prior that any one can vote including the opposing party in another parties candidate. :(

No, but it does fit in 21st century republicanism...which is what I hope we have: not democracy. If youre referring to 'democracy' in the Cold-War, accountability-to-the-people form, it fits just fine.
