Sell them cheaply to other businesses which helps those businesses, then you shut down the badly run company & either consolidate the staff in that company getting rid of the bad apples, or you shut it down. This allows another business with a similar business model but better people rise to the top. The bad asset gets adsorbed new businesses thrive. You don't give the bad business a massive loan to keep going...

It will eventually have to liquidate. But by then the economy will be so bad there won't be anyone left to pick up the pieces.

Sell them cheaply to other businesses which helps those businesses, then you shut down the badly run company & either consolidate the staff in that company getting rid of the bad apples, or you shut it down. This allows another business with a similar business model but better people rise to the top. The bad asset gets adsorbed new businesses thrive. You don't give the bad business a massive loan to keep going...

So you need to let it go under or liquidate & restructure. The derivatives mess should have been allowed to liquidate. This would have been painful, but it hasn't gone away it's just being prolonged. It will eventually have to liquidate. But by then the economy will be so bad there won't be anyone left to pick up the pieces.
