Second, its not a "Jewish gvt" - it has Arab members also. Don't ignore their participation in Israeli society.

It has nothing to do with religion or belief. The Jews' right to their homeland is based on 5,000 yrs of history and continuing and never surrendered inhabitation of the land since antiquity.
I am all for making peace - I support Palestinians in making a better life. They deserve it. But perhaps you need to ask the Islamic world to accept that Israel has a right to exist? Thatd be a nice start

I am against the building of settlements in the West Bank. That should stop. Not that it is stealing in every respect as often times the land is bought (just as Arabs within Israel buy land). That being said, I'm against those settlements - but thats not the main cause of conflict. Before 1967 there wasnt a single settlement, yet Israel was still attacked and its existence denied. Second, its not a "Jewish gvt" - it has Arab members also. Don't ignore their participation in Israeli society.

I am all for making peace with neighbors, but that has to start with mutual recognition and accepting the other's right to exist. That means Arabs accept Israel and Israel accepts Palestine. Neither was Israel conceived by occupation, and hypothetically if it was, then so was Arab Palestine - the Arabs came in uninvited, whereas the Jews at least had an internationally granted mandate by the league of nations and accepted by at least some of the Arab nationalist leadership in 1919.

The situation is certainly sticky as you call it - but thats because two nationalisms were in conflict - Jewish and Arab. The Arabs however, it must be admitted, have a problem with accepting other nations in their midst - Israel may be the most noted example, but look at the Kurds, Assyrians, Copts, Berbers, etc. All have been denied recognition in their ancestral lands by the majority Arab world.

I've beeen to Israel and Palestine many times and yes, I was pretty shocked to se jewish reserved roads and jewish reserved villages (or settlements) exactly like in south africa during the aphartheid. Also I was very in shock when I went down to gaza 3 months ago, with "save the children" to see that Israel does not let any of the supply we send in to help the children you bombed. I'm not even going to talk about the way I was constantly harrassed by Israeli soldiers...
