The pitch and speed of the opening theme gets more and more ridiculous every decade, it'll sound like chipmunks singing in 2015. Back in the 80's it was low and dramatic, had oomph.

The ABC affiliate in Buffalo, NY (WKBW) used this theme as well, but this is much better done in terms of the outdoor graphics and cool shots around the city. They call WPVI their sister station, and got their "Eyewitness News" concept from WPVI in the 70's. I have never seen a complete WPVI newscast, but this is the best opening I have ever seen for a newscast - anywhere! It's simply excellent!!

Simple theme. No need for fancy graphics. Just show Philadelphia going about their lives.. WPVI had the formula down and never let go of it.

I love how they change the opening sequence based on the seasons.

Don't be surprised. It's the best news opening in the country, because they only replace a few clips at a time, so it's both classic and fresh.

6ABC infact tried to change their theme song years ago, and the public demanded to have the old "Current" Action News Theme Song Back on.... It IS a STAPLE for WPVI and I don't think they should change anything!! You always know when Action News is on.... Leave it the way it is!!

Action News and it's theme song has been a "Staple" in the Philly/South Jersey area since 1970. It would be stupid for 6ABC to change it, they tried once- and they had to switch it back. People like it the way it is... the same since the 70's.

WPVI tried to retool the theme song in 1997, using the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Viewer response was swift and overwhelming, and WPVI scuttled the new version of "Move Closer To Your World" in just five days!

However, the theme song has been slightly tinkered with over the years, most notably, WPVI has toned down the bongo drums that were prominent in the theme song's early days.

I love the music for "Action News", just the like way WPIX-TV in New York City did since the early 80's. "Move Closer to Your World" will still be the same on WPVI.

As some on the Web have called it, WPVI's national anthem. WPIX picked up the WPVI theme from (at least) 1976 to 1984, and WTNH also used it during the era. Interestingly, Roberto Tirado worked for both WTNH and WPIX during his career.
