There is now a 3rd artist/ Band to do a cover of Promised land. Bands is called WASP. IMO all 3 of these versions are great! Chuck Berry wrote a great song and his version is great. I'ts nice to know that 2 others took hiw song and didn't massacre it. Both Elvis and WASP did great covers of this song!
CHUCK BERRY invented Rock n Roll and Elvis, as good as he was just took it to the white population. I am white and not a racist, but Chuck is THE KING OF ROCK&ROLL.
No. It is very relevant to compare the singers voices and the emotional effect and personal charisma. And I dont understand the popularity of CB...
Yes, sure CB is certainly a good textwriter.
But he is an average singer. Ohh!!..Sean Connery didnt write the manustext to James Bond etc so he is not an artist!
Ian Fleming was also a good textwriter like CB. He was not an actor. Sean Connery transformed Fleminings text to movieart..Just like Elvis transform CBs text to a song and musicart..
If you think Elvis was on the same level as Chuck your head is firmly jammed up your arse! Chuck - no charisma?? as John Lennon said - "if you had to re-name rock and roll you could call it Chuck Berry!"
@Spuddle16 you are so right lived thiugh the beginning, its not about the singing the guitar and the back beat is the deal took the blues and things from the blacks gave it a beat and guitar licks never herd before
But Chuck Berry wrote 100 more songs than Elvis! Sometimes it is about the song not just the singer! If Elvis was the King Chuck was the Prince, Little RIchard was the Duke, Jerry lee Lewis was the Jester, Buddy Holly was The Bard and The Beatles were the Great Pretenders...
actually for most of Mr. Berry's career he just used local musicians ... the locals would get a song list and he would play with them sight unseen. i'd bet he used the local dudes for this show that was taped in Mexico... they are really struggling to keep up.
He is the equal of Whitman, Melville, Twain, Kerouac or any American writer, an absolute genius, an artist, an American artist.

Chuck Berry is NOT the king of Rock’n Roll. He is a Pedophile and a thief the sooner people realize this the better.

Chuck Berry is one of the few black singers that hasn't destroyed himself with booze and drugs, much respect.

DIfferent than it is today, back then rock'n'roll was art, and no concurrence by its own means. And you can't tell me this video ain't rockin'!

I don't care about CB and his text
ELVIS sings much better

That's fine. So why don't you go on to an Elvis appreciation thread where your devotion would be better suited.
Comparing Chuck with Elvis is like comparing a cooker with a freezer.

I have not heard Chuck Berry before now.
And I'm really suprised.:
CB has no personal charisma nor excellent voice.
CB is just an average singer. Nothing more!!!
ELVIS is the KING!!!!

Love the "dance" thing he does at 5:32. I didn't know that was "invented" in the late 70s or 80s.
