FBsteezy the hand is insulated from the power and there is only 2 D cell batteries in it so I don't think there is enough power to worry about getting shocked. You do have to be careful not to touch the wire as it could burn you because it does get very hot.
@rcFoamFighters lol i mean not shocked bad just a little shock idk i just seemed like you would cuz all the metal looked like it was touching lol, but good video
Will a cutting tool like this one cut cleanly through mattress foam? i have to make a circular cut thats about 10 cm in diameter, for a project im working on. Finding info on cutting mattress foam at home is hard cos i can only find info on styrofoam types of foam :(
stormtrooper1822 we have never used this hotwire cutter for cutting that kind of foam but I'm sure it would cut it. Just not too sure how straight and even the cuts would be if the foam is bending and flexing like a sponge.

Awesome to have you aboard daveyedgar!! Thanks for commenting on the videos. You guys are what keeps us motivated to build new planes and come up with new ideas. Stay tuned there is a lot more coming!!
I like to cut my own wings for my planes will that cutter will be able to take a 15 to 20 inches wire and what kind of wire does it use is ti nicrome or anything will work? I will say that if I like to put a longer wire just I will say double the amout of batteries or triple the amount of batteries if I like to triple the lengt of the wieres ,, ,, what do you guys think?
EXXXOTTEEK this hand held hotwire is not really meant to be used for anything that large. It will cut up to a couple inches. If you are going to cut 15 to 20 inches I would suggest using a 12 or 24 volt transformer with a regulating switch so you can adjust the current to get the temperature of the wire correct for the length of wire you use. A light dimmer switch will work. There are forums out there for more info on all this. Paul and I are just starting to experiment with it.
Mr. RcFoamFighter, Thanks for your reply and video . I did things like you say it worked perfect. Im almost finish with my foamy fy22 now, my leading edges look squarly after been chanfered like you did in the video , will it fly like that? Im planing to round it up with .80grit snd paper. unless you have other sugestion. Dificult to use air foil patern when a single piece flying wing. thanks again.
Thanks zipperneck!! We always appreciate our viewers thoughts and opinions to help us make our videos and channel better. I will definitely do this on my videos from now on.
Great review and i have just been looking at a video on a UK r/c forum on how to make a cheap hot wire bow but it's a little bigger than that one but i suppose you can make them what ever size you want, waiting on more videos on how to finish it though :-) but your one is a real cheap one and a lot less bother :-)
Thanks startazz!!! Homemade hotwire bows can definitely be made any size. You just have to make sure you use the right transformer voltage and have some way to adjust the flow of current. Both Paul and I are starting to experiment with this. We will probably do some video on it in the future after we get it all figured out.
Great review. Good to know the plastic version is not the way to go. Have you had to change the batteries since you purchased it? If so, what kind of life expectancy are we looking at?
I just replaced the batteries in my new one but they were the original ones I had in the plastic one first. They lasted quite a while. I'm probably going to get a set of rechargeable D cells for it anyway, if I can find some.
Thanks kapitanC!! I agree this hand held hotwire can be used for a lot of things . Beveling and shaping wing edges, fuselage pieces and canopies are just a few things we use it for.
EXCELENTE !!

why do you add music when you're teaching? It's really disturbing (irritating).

Very interesting. Constructive criticism: Lower the intro jingle and background music once you start speaking.
It is hard to concentrate over the music.
