But, to make things interesting...the Chrono Trigger Prerelease shows evidence that there were originally going to be 8 playable characters...

@CABS2081 I know this comment is from 4 months ago, but from what I heard, the 8th character was suppose to be Schala where if you weren't able to get the Chrono Doll, Marle would instead switch out with her and die (or as she thinks) with Chrono, and Schala would be able to join you (and all of her dark magic glory) to defeat Lavos. If I also recall correctly, she was also able to have combo attacks with Magus. Of course, this is all wild guessing.

Music was way better thos days. i lots of games it fits perfely to the situation, nowdays the need to focus more on feel (music plays a big role in that) and les on graphics.Its not that the souns is better , but music fits more espacialy on SoM music made the game veery much.

Also gameplay nowdays needs more attention.

One of the vieuw rpgs i like now days are the dragon quest series on DS, and some ps2 rpgs(not the FF)

@MegaIdaniel, yeah, I was kind of disappointed how easy Lavos is when you take the time to get all the best equipment and power up your party with speed and magic tabs. I think a good solution would be for Lavos to attack much more quickly...say three times as often. That would really create excitement cause you'd have to act fast to survive.

dude i hope u know this but you know when he brings the lil bits back the cores defence is still down. But thats on the DS version i don't know what version your playing im guessing its super NES but ya the cores def should be down after the revive move.

The core's defense doesn't stay down when "Active Life" (resurrected bits) is happening; but you usually do get some time immediately after the resurrection before the defense kicks back in.

At 6:30 Magus uses Black Hole. Was it a mistake or for some reason you can OHKO a Lavos Bit/Lavos Core and I'm unaware of it?

Other than that, great vid, Magus is probably the coolest character in any RPG I've played. And it is my belief they should have given an option to be able to play with only one character at a time if we so desired :P

Nah, I don't think it's a bug. If the right bit dies, then all three bits die, whether you've actually hurt them or not.

In other words, take the right bit out, and you win.

Dude the left bit has about 3k hp while the right one has nearly 30k and the center one somewhere in the middle so I don't know what your smokin with that idea. You realize this is the toughest mob in the game aside from maybe spekkio's last form right?

Now that you mention it, yeah, it does. I'd never noticed the static that keeps phasing in and out before.

Part of this is due to the emulator used--zSNES never has been good at reproducing non-MIDI sounds such as Lavos' scream. The other part--I probably overcompressed things a little.

Even Lavos' move that disables protection WILL remove the effect of Prism Helms.

That is seriously the most inefficient fight against Lavos I've ever seen. :/ You didn't seem to have the prism helm equipped, since you got hit with status afflictions, and you completely ignored the center bit even though it was doing all the damage. Could have done this in half the time by killing the left bit, waiting for the core to drop def, then dark matter constantly and healing as needed, repeating the kill sequence whenever the bits get resurrected.

I never claimed I was going for efficiency. If I were, I would have used Dark Matter over and over again (once the left bit was killed of course), waiting for the right bit's defense to drop each time, and used the Haste Helm+Nova Armor for quicker speed and status protection. Instead, I was using the Gloom Helm+Moon Armor--which does protect status, by the way.

And yes, I have beat Lavos with just Magus in about 40% the time of this video.

Ah, I see. That explains the status afflictions, then. I've noticed that the armor that only protects status can still have the status protection knocked off if you get hit with a protection disabler like Lavos uses. I always stick with the prism helm since it locks status and can't be disabled like the status protect effects can.

It took a very long time...if I remember correctly, I played completely through the game 3 times, then did some additional leveling, to get Magus to level 99, and to also obtain enough Magic, Power, and Speed tabs to max him out.

No; using PAR codes is the only way.

However...you could bring two other party members with Magus and let them die quickly. That doesn't require PAR codes and accomplishes nearly the same thing.
