Currently making a blog about the TSE version cutting it down scene-by-scene and comparing it with the Theatrical Version, the Alan smithee Version and of course the TSE version
The Extended is good but I found out it was made for a TV Broadacst(the Smithee Version, which is why David Lynch disowned it). The TSE evrsion is very good.very ambient in the sound(using the theater version audio is very good) also you seamlessly integrated the deleted scenes.
I always though this ''spice'' thing was kinda funny. Reminds me of those years (Renaissance and before I guess) where merchants would conserve meat with spices as they traveled the seas.
David Lynch's "Dune" differs from the book. That's why many people criticize it but I don't agree. The whole movie was very well done, visual effects were great for that time and the acting was brilliant. Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis were stunning
Just watched the third stage edition and this is definatly a vast improvement on the orignal theatrical release, I would highley reccomend this version as a more definitive version of what david lynch's final cut would have been. It expands the characters and plot much more whilst still retaining the theatrical cut with intertwined deleted scenes and footage from the TV Version explaining and showing things in much more detail, if you like the movie then you have to see this
@Clesarie It would be nice if they would put the Extended version on Blu-Ray. We'd like to re-release Third Stage Edition as an HD version, but that's not possible until we can get HD sources for the extra footage. Let's hope!
Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you — the perfume exists on only one planet in the entire universe. A desolate, dry planet with vast deserts. Hidden away within the rocks of these deserts is a oasis known as flux. It has long held a prophecy that a man would come, a messiah who would lead them to true freedom. The planet is the Padashan Empress, also known as Irulan.
AAn epic fail is more like it, anyone glad there is another Dune movie coming soon? i hope it does it well with the politics included and make it 3 parts similar to what Lord of the Rings did to it's source. This movie reminds me a bit of Bakshi's LOTR, i think Lynch was the wrong man for this movie and he even disowned it.
I like the miniseries better, but there are parts of the movie that were better. Like what they did with the baron's look. Too bad they couldn't get Ian MacNeice to have the makeup
Meh, the argument about the different versions is pointless anyway, I prefer the miniseries, but I like both versions. Now if they could combine the best elements of both productions you would have something truly worldbeating.
The closet things to a new Dune movie were Stargate, The Fifth Element, Total Recall and Avatar, who agrees? Lynch's movie was just a disaster, 2000's Mini-series stayed true to the novels.
@Johnlindsey289 Well it wasn't 100% true, Irulans role was expanded for example, but like Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings, it was pretty much as true to the source as you can get. Despite the low budget it had, I enjoyed it, and Children of Dune. Say what you like about Dino De Laurentis, his productions were lavish, Lynch's Dune and Flash Gordon were just so decadent looking.
@Solareffects Wierding Modules weren't in the book. The SciFi Channel Miniseries had it right, the 'wierding way' was basically an advanced martial art.

@andy5421b Lemme know what you think of that version!

@andy5421b very good version. You seamlessly integrated the deleted scenes and put back things that the TV Version("Smithee") left out

Replace spice by oil and you will see what it is actually all about.

Now if only this could use the Blu ray release for as many scenes as possible.
Maybe this will finally be an edition of the movie thats comprehenable.

i applaud this however i do like the princess irulan intro.
Hal566 1 year ago 5
@Hal566 The Irulan intro is what is in The Third Stage Edition, no paintings!
phineasbg 1 year ago
@phineasbg oh ok i misunderstood, the info in the paintings intro is good but doesnt really seem to fit the pacing. The irulan intro is more epic.

And the Bene Gesserit were not strictly speaking telepaths of anykind, their abilities where based on observation and physical conditioning.
I still like what Lynch did with the movie.
This edit looks amazing, from the little I have seen it is MUCH better than the Smithee version.
