Remember when I said MOST come in without physical contact? I have the authority to use reasonable force to detain or restrain a shoplifter, my friend. If I outweigh someone 2 to 1 (which is often the case with teenage females) then the necessary force to detain is different from the 205 pound woman that tried to run through me. By the way, her feet left the ground when I slammed her into the wall. It is a little more than a citizen's arrest, because I act as an agent of my company.

It takes at least a little more than equal force to subdue and restrain someone who is resisting. Yes, I slammed her. And yes, it was reasonable. It's like getting a quarterback in your grasp after he's thrown the ball. You don't finish and put him on the ground. If the shoplifter submits, then you don't increase the force. I don't want to be a cop. I enjoy the freedom of my job. I am actually going to be a teacher, thank you. You are right, though. Many people in my position are big-time cop wannabe's. I am older than most of them, which is also part of the reason that I have caught over 150 shoplifters and about a dozen employees in the last 8 months. I do enjoy showing people what the consequences of their actions are, whether it is a ticket, jail, or just a warning against future illegal activity. God bless.

We keep catching them. Just like high school students don't always care about their education. I will continue to teach them the same lessons, repeatedly if needed, with love and respect. Many of the people I catch shake my hand on the way out and thank me. I am straight up with them and inform them of the consequences if they continue. Repeated theft offenses can be enhanced over time to higher misdemeanors and even felonies.

Exactly. Security guards are peace officers. We have training, and are licensed. Where I live it;s the solicitor Generals signature on my Security license. AND it;s valid government photo id. The fact a person, whether male or female tried to attack you, gave you just cause to detain them forcibly. Use the minimal amount needed to detain her.
