Corvette Z06 vs Porsche 996 GT3 @ Nordschleife

....................Anyone else noticed the looks Corvette got before entering the track?? True headturner..American cars are low and have these long hoods that always steal the show. Good driving by Porche.

Great race, great cars. Typical results. For the last 30 years it's been the Corvette blasting away on the straights and the 911 closing it up in the corners. Corvette is a brutish beast of a motor with a reliable anvil-tough drivetrain and cheap interior materials with a questionable overpaid union-sourced build quality, but affordable. While the GT3 is a symphonic masterpiece of technical excellence, build tolerances, and superior weight distribution. Greatly over-complicated.............

with exorbitant maintinence costs and an aristocratic ego-driven reputation. Either one, from what I've seen, is owned by geriatric relics who will never wring the potential out of these cars, and most spend their existence staring at a garage wall with 36 coats of wax on them. I could never afford either one, nor would i want the gold-chain hairy chest or leather glove pinkies out aura that surrounds them

@jbmoose9 Corvette is not that expensive. U can get a used 7L Corvette Z06 for $40,000 and spend $10,000 on it afterwards to steal Bugatti Veyrons lunch money..

Great driving guys! The Vette driver could've taken some much better lines in some of the turns though. The GT3 driver was obviously much better. Beautiful cars and good race!

Just check the latest lightning lap in car and driver. The Z06 killed the GT3 and Turbo on the track. The Turbo had even 25 hp more than the Z06 and lost by a huge margin bahahahahaha!

Uh, yeah, it is. GT3's are naturally aspirated. The Turbo and GT2 are the only forced induction 911's.

@kay19833 - Why do some people have to make a discussion about two fast cars personal like this? I love both cars and have owned several european exotics as well as Corvette's. Bang for the buck...Corvette takes it. The fact is that GM has found the formula for speed at the ring. So what if it's a 3.6 vs a 7.0. It's results that count and the Z06 took it with money to spare. (@8:55..C'Ya!) Want to really see the GT lose it? Run the ZR1.

Great driving and cool video. This demonstrates that the C6Z is faster even though the Porsche driver looked better. The C6 left the door wide open a few times but the Porsche couldn't get the power to catch up.

proof that the Z-06 is a damn good track car with an average driver, especially on a straight its bye bye, and the GT3 is only for track, GREATJOB to both but GM especially, considering it has A/C, P/S, CRUISE,etc

I dont think the Z06 driver is bad or inexperienced, all I see is a car almost 200hp more powerful not being able to shake the gt3 off. That says a lot, imo.

Porsche driver seems to know the track better but following has its advantages. You can sure tell the Z06 has some good pull out of corners.

The Z06 has so much power on the straights, simply astonishing. The Porsche driver seems really experienced with the RR layout, never letting off the throttle during cornering.

Bimmer, where you the driver of the Porsche? If you were, put you in the Vette for a driver mod. You drove the Porsche very well.  Great vid.

clearly the vette driver is not as good as the porsche driver, he seemed to brake too early coming into corner. a better driver in the vette would leave the 996 gt3 in the dust.

The Z06 is track ready pretty much but i bet the car shown here had a full racing exhaust and probably higher friction pads. Great driving rom both drivers

Are both cars stock? seems like the z06 has aftermarket exhaust at the least?

The z06 seems to take some different/safer lines on a few corners, Bimmer1309 can u comment on that?

Nah the driver took the Z06 to the limit and had great control dude you dont have to hit the apex all the time especially when you are out in front

The GT3 generates more downforce. A proper spoiler on the Z06 and it`s a monster. The Z06 could have gone faster though.

@bludragwag0nz I can attest to the tail happyness of a ZO6. It still beats a car that understeers any day, like most AWD performance car's of today. Nothing makes your life flash before your eyes more than going into the downhill left at Road America after the long straight, turning in and watching your car (a modified Audi TT Quattro) continue straight towards the wall. That's why I'll never, ever take an AWD car around a track again.
