The Arabs had a choice in 1948 to accept the UN partition plan & live in peace - or to wage war & thereby risk the possibility of losing land they already had - which is exactly what happened. Those are the risks of war. As far trying to systematically expel the population, that's what the Arabs started as far back late 1800s.

The only reason why a minority of Arabs started targeting many Jewish civilians was due to the massive inward migration of Jews at this time. Only a minority (if any) of Arabs supported the genocide of the Jews....why would they? it only lead to more Jews migrating to Palestine. And if there was no independent state of Palestine than there was no original state of Israel until 1948. Also there was some riots and conflict between the Palestinian people and the Jordan's but they did not ethnically cleanse them to the same level
