Undoubtedly, SRV will continue to be the one whom anyone who appreciates music to a depth that sets no limits to our emotions, will be the one that will be missed the most. A legend, master, teacher, inspiration....blows me away every time. RIP, SRV.
too many guitar players over think every phrase or every lick. I went through a period where my ability regressed because of a shitty teacher who was obsessed with technique....The best blues comes from the gut.
omg..the faces, the gum chewing, the clothes, the hair, the sweat, the voice, the hands that coax magic from a guitar...what a heart breaking loss in so many ways. Thanks for all you gave us SRV & Double Trouble! Can't forget Tommy, Chris, Reese thanks to you all! and to workmanrob for this video.
By far the best version I've seen, There are many talented guitar players around, but SRV was in a class all by himself. They'll never be anyone that can touch him IMO.
@morrowgirls Man, there's been cats who have tried and tried to be Stevie, but they couldn't. And, no matter how long time goes on, there never will be another. The best of all-time!
@morrowgirls Couldn't agree with you more..Living here in Texas, I probably saw Stevie 5 or 6 times live and this is the best version of this song I've ever seen. He put so much of his soul into his playing. A class all by himself...indeed.
I total see some B.B King in there for sure. But Ill be honest. Ive seen ever video there is to see about SRV and I havent seen him rip this fast in any video or live performance ive seen before! Defiantly one of the best of Stevie`s work! nice job Stevie ;)
Definitely some BB King licks in there. I love how the Vaughan brothers mixed together licks from all their idols. Then again that's how any guitarist gets his style right? I bet Jimmie Vaughan was in the audience and Stevie was saying look bro, I can play your licks lol. If you compare this to the vid of The Fabulous Thunderbirds playing "Full Time Lover" you can hear this stuff too. Stevie speeds it up about 300 times like he always did tho lol.
I love this version!! Its way better than the Live From Austin,TX one! I love how you can tell he's just playing around with the major/minor scale!! It's just so different,,,fucking STEVIE!!!!!
He is at his best here and in this concert in general. He looks so healthy and on top of his game.He may have shared many influences and cut many remakes of songs but his cuts were one of a kind and the man himself was too.I know that I will never see another like him in my time.I wish future generations will somehow experience just how great this man was.Why debate the Hendrix,or Vaughan there is no winner except us the ones who get to listen and enjoy.Thank you Stevie for a lifetime of music
@donreaperman77 Dude sooo true! Im sick of the whole Hendrix/SRV debate! Just shut the fuck up and let the guitars speak for Gaadsakes!! Hendrix is only like a quarter of what's in Stevie's bag right? Rave on Jimi and Stevie!!!!
You know, Stevie Ray Vaughan is my all time guitar idol, and im 15, i stopped playing guitar 4 months ago for some reason and i want to get back, ive been playing for 2 1/2 years, but when i watch Stevie play i want to get back to it, but then i always think to myself, ill never be that good! Rest in Peace Stevie!
@RaphaBert Hey bro Keep Trying! im 21 and been listening to Stevie since i was 3! ive been playing for 13 years now. You can do it! even Stevie would tell you that if ya keep playin it with your Heart and Soul...it comes that much easier. Stevie Is My Idol and Hero as a guitarist...he has also influenced my to be a better Person. Keep at It Man!!
@RaphaBert Dude Im 40 and I just started playing again after 8yrs lost to alcohol. I played pro for 15yrs and lost it to booze. I spent 7-8 yrs drinking but in that time I never stopped listening to Stevie,Jimi,Eric,The 3 Kings,Slash and a bunch of others. It never left me. Been sober for 2yrs and been playing since that 1st sober day and I am illuminated! I'm playing better now than I was at 23 and in a pro band! The point is that sometimes you just gotta cleanse yourself bro. Keep playing!!!!
@087722 Great way of putting it. There's many a great player out there who couldn't even attempt to bend those strings, let alone do what Stevie did with them.
It was such a waste to loose such greatness...I never met Stevie, I know it's strange but, I miss him every time I hear one of his releases. Thank you for sharing the video Rob.
Pretty sure you meant "he's" and i'm also sure Dimebag sure as fuck isn't jamming with Stevie. Dimebag couldn't hold 1/1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000th of the talent Stevie had.
No, not a coin. He's using the round edge of a normal medium size guitar pick. This is such an amazing heartfelt performance of SRV and Double Trouble. U can hear all his influences in his playing here, and you can hear how all of these influences made his own unique and influentual style. Amazing!
@joshscus ~ I read an interview where he said he uses very heavy gauge strings on his guitars for the "Full Gut Tone" they give, so that would explain using the backside of a heavy pick to Thwuck out those Bold notes & chords !.
@ontariobuds ...the show was projected on screens on both sides of the stage...a vhs tape was recording the output to the screens...this is a copy of that tape....
@workmanrob UNREAL......SRV is and always will be the GREATEST to ever live. Helluva video right here. His emotion is so strong in this. Amazing how much better he played once he cleaned up. He was at a great point in his life then tragedy struck. It always happens to the GREAT ones.
@jwmac9 that's what a good blues tune does, brings out emotion in you, and when i sing and play my harp, i let my emotions out and pour my heart into any song i do, and that's the secret to being a good singer or musician, let it come from your heart, not your mind!!!!
I love how SRV would pay tribute to his influences through cover tunes. In this Buddy Guy tune for example--not only does his guitar style display Guy's influence--but B.B. King and Guitar Slim's as well. Appropriately enough Slim and King were both highly influential on Guy himself.
Yeah, perfectly. And here there's even more BB King influence. SRV plays the base blues accessory with flawless improvisative and emotive power. That is immense achievement, I mean the fact i consider this "blues etalon" is because of the perfect quality he puts the blues standards in. The "traditional blues" feel, is mainly his effect.
Gave his soul...this solo here...he sold his soul to the devil!!! This has got to be the sickest solo I have ever heard...and the thing is....he would never play the same song the same way once, let alone twice!!! SRV is a true GUITAR GOD!!
I've been a fan since 82 or so and LOVE when 'new' stuff like this shows up.. This is another great example of how Stevie never played the same solo twice.. same general song, but different every time. Wonder if there'll ever be anyone like him again... probably not~
