I think its noble that we take care of animals but we should do that in animal reserves or something in those lines where we can at least partially simulate natural habitat. A step forward would be to at least let them loose during the summer if the country' climate is bad for them during winter. Putting them in a box for the rest of their life is the worst. Just image.
Monkey World is another example of people doing great things for these animals.
The Great Orangutan Project in Borneo have a centre where they are working towards orangutan conservation through rehabilitation and release programmes.
ah MONKEY WORLD IS AN AMAZING place YOU MUST go visit if you can they have a new series showing on UK tv called MONKEY LIFE it is a new concept of the Monkey Business series shown on Sky. This rescue centre achieves miracles and nees all our help go spend money adopt it all goes back into the rescue rehab and care of these great primates
its Gordon-he is beautiful! he was only in there while he was getting ready to go in with the adult orangs and to get him to spend time with his human carer who had reared him from birth as his mum (Amy) had rejected him-he soon goes back in with Amy and she takes to him.
Regardless, I believe animals should not be kept in any type of confinement. No matter how 'wonderful' of a place it may be. IF a mad group of apes took a child and caged it up in the jungle, humans would go nuts! Think about it... Sure you can say, oh ya right... but we do it to them!? Its Wrong.
I understand why you think animals shouldn't be confined, but sometimes it's the only option. Nearly all apes and monkeys at Monkey World have been rescued from predicaments, for example a chimp baby whose mother and relatives in the tribe have been shot by poachers, or a monkey saved from a circus.
You can't just throw a primate back into the wild and expect it to get along. Primates are cultural creatures; it would be the same as dumping a human baby orphan in the middle of the street.

They're there because Man is driving them to extinction. Think you need to go to the Monkeyworld web site and get more informed on the subject.
