he was only in the fourth season, and they were going to bring him back for season 5, but then he was picked up for spn and he didn't come back...he's departure was kinda sudden...at least i think...but he's way better in spn anyway.

yeah that's true, he had to go to Supernatural so they had to get rid of him in Smallville. Basically they made him evil towards the end of the season, ruinining their relationship, and he ended up being killed.

They had a really sweet relationship for the first half of season 4. It was on the rocks the second half, and within the last few episodes of the season, in my opinion, the writers really screwed up his character. :( But yeah, he did die, though we never saw it.
