Fairbairn & Sykes is actually Police Inspectors attached to Shanghai back in the 1920's, they specialty was close quarter armed & unarmed fighting. Their names are forever related with commando because they are the ones whom design & made the now infamous Fairbairn & Sykes Commando Dagger.
this guy is still referenced by real time combat instructors today. a couple of years ago I had an excellent lecture that incorporated some of what fairbain had learned about natural body reflex and posture and firing of side arms during his time with the shanghai police.
excellent time capsule video of Fairbair's western combatives! I wish there was a DVD collection of all his footage. notice the knee to the groin and chin jab are a standard in his system. the closest thing to this still taught out there are American Combatives and Canadian Combato. Charlie Nelson passed away however there are some still dedicated to keeping American combatives (adaptation of Fairbairn)alive. thanks for posting!
Yes actually, I did. It's also "similar" to a style of Kung Fu I learned when I was younger (10-14). It's called Kung Fu San Soo - also very much like Krav Maga.
I was suprised at how effective this guy's techniques were. The groin + chin strike (at the SAME time) is a bit "awkward" to do, but overall, I generally like his style. Very interesting. +1...giving you a total of +3 =)
Thanks so much for posting this! I've just started reading up on Fairbairn and his techniques and it really makes a difference being able to see it in action.
Picture a bloke with a West-Country accent bringing down a tall German like that! xD

Rex Applegate had a funny story on his first encounter with Fairbairne.
It ends with: "...the next thing I knew, I was flying through the air and landed on the first two rows of the audience."

Hey anyone notice the similarities with Krav Maga techniques? Not many people remember Imi Lichtenfeld served in the British Army in Palestine!

Some of the trainees in the film may have been actual agents who would be deployed behind enemy lines.
The film itself was a documentary, not a how-to film.
