@IASP17 I personally don't think the match ROCK vs Cena can be compared with ROCK vs Hogan, The age gaps are too different. In this match Hogan was 48 while ROCK 31 representing the new generation. However, ROCK will be 39 vs Cena 35, they are the same generation. Cena is not young either. No matter who wins, I just don't think that match can be as meaningful as this one.

Before Hogan, wrestling was just a side-show for genuine fans. Because of Hogan, wrestling became a household name and part of mainstream popular culture. The Rock was given the win here because Hogan was aging and on his way out.

@youngstar165 The Rock was not "better" than Hogan. He may have been a better wrestler and his impact on the wrestling universe was huge...but no one has ever come close to the imprint made on professional wrestling and society as a whole more than Hulk Hogan. Before Hogan, wrestling was just a side-show for genuine fans. Because of Hogan, wrestling became a household name and part of mainstream popular culture. The Rock was given the win here because Hogan was aging and on his way out.

@xraycat30 Well also WWE wanted to make it seem as the torch is passed because now the situation is Hogan passed the torch on to the Rock, and despite what people wanna say about Rock not fulfilling his wrestling career and that crown for leaving early, Rock has that torch, and now the situation is WWE wants Rock to pass the torch to John Cena and now Rock has the LEGEND support by the fans, just like Hogan did here. For Rock fans, we're now walking a mile in hulkamaniacs' shoes. What joy.

@youngstar165 If you did a sociological study about the impact of pro-wrestling on western society, I don't think for a second that you'd find the Rock's name having a larger impact on wrestling than Hogans. And I'm not talking about personal opinion. It's not about who was a better wrestler. It's about who's influence mattered more in the eyes of the world. Like music, it's sad...but Britney Spears has a bigger influence than Dream Theater. It's wrong...very wrong..but it's true.

@liveandletrock864 Well...you definetly make a better case than the last guy. I think it's subjective when considering who had the bigger influence. Don't forget though that Hogan is his own brand...and for all in tense and purposes, he is the nWo brand as well. And that's huge. Consider also he's in films, TV shows, reality TV, cartoons and multiple product endorsements. You may have a case, but I don't think so myself.

5:37 to 6:15 i was 20 years old and i had to fight back tears. i had no idea going into this match the crowd would completely turn on the rock, cheer hogan and lead to a legendary 80s hulkamania hulk up. you listen to that crowd, and theres nothing fake about wrestling

my god!!! i don't know how many times i watched hulk's powering up. It's just so epic!! it's beyond believe how that feeling going through everyone in that stadium got through this screen and got through me...however, i can not believe john cena fighting the rock is considered a dream match...John Cena is highly overrated character and does not deserve to be in the ring with the likes of the rock or any other great wrestlers.

THE FACT IS THAT THE OLDER YOU GET PAST THE AGE OF 21, THE MORE YOUR MAXIMUM ACHIEVABLE ENDURANCE DECREASES. A 30 y.o. has a great endurance advantage over a 40 y.o. statisticly but not in all cases because genetics and lifestyle are also a factor.

As a die hard rock fan, we all know Hogan is a legend, he was just simply there longer. If rock had stayed, he wouldve surpassed Hogan IMO. What the rock did in such short time will never be done again. He is, and forever will be, the peoples champion.

I never understood why the People's Elbow became a finishing move. It's the five knuckle shuffle, the boom drop, the ballin' elbow, the wasssssup. It's not a finisher.
The Rock Bottom is a finisher. It comes out of nowhere.

@HybridD91 ...and Kofi...and MVP. But you've obviously missed my point. It's a fun, theatrical move that gets the crowd worked up...but it's not a finisher. Only jobbers like Scotty 2 Hotty (W.O.R.M.) and Santino (Cobra) get to use moves like that as their finishers.

@irishbearcat2006 I always thought moves like the people's elbow and the hogan leg drop were finishers that were meant to add insult to injury... in part because all they are are leg and elbow drops, so finishing your opponent off with such a lame move just screams, "yeah, I just kicked your ass SO DAMN bad, that I am going to pin you after a freaking LEG/ELBOW DROP"
