You're right s11iko...perhaps a slower tempo could capture more of Addinsel's sensitivity in doing this masterpiece, which is the most beautiful ever composed. Anyway, I must say she is an incredibly skilled professional...a virtuoso.
i love this concerto in any rendition but the lupascu one is so beautiful i only wish i had only part of her talent, probably one of the most beautiful pieces ever written i could listen to it all day thank you

The song "World Outside" was written and recorded in 1959 and was based on the film theme. The Warsaw Concerto was composed in 1940. You have your facts the wrong way around. See the Wikipedia article for details.

I'm getting a big kick watching Ovidiu Balan's (the conductor) gymnastic performance. Gives me much encouragement that we need not become sedentary shlubs as old age creeps up on us.
FABULOUS - thank you to whoever put this piece on You Tube. Such a shame that most of composer Richard Addinsell's music was destroyed after he made the film in 1941, namely 'Dangerous Moonlight'. They must have been mad!!!!!!
This is my childhood memory, my mother used to play it too, and for her it was part of her early married life. I can recommend the movie, Dangerous Moonlight.
@tacsandamps Nice. My mother used to play this too when I was a child. I remember lying in my bed listening to her playing it....I am sure i should have been asleep !
" El Concierto de Varsovia", es un concierto para piano y orquesta escrito por el compositor inglés Richard Addinsell en 1941 para la película Dangerous Moonlight.
Very moving yes a slower pace maybe - Russ Conway who l had the great pleasure of working with played with the same style and yes a little hasty sometimes which loses the 'romance'
I think Addinsell was a superb composer. To be able to create this short piece "a la Rachmaninov", for a movie is quite a feat. Curiously the Warsaw Concert has excelled the movie in every sense. It is a very beautiful and powerful concert piece. Thank you for posting.
@sdfjklri: Actually the movie, "Dangerous Moonlight," only partially takes place in Warsaw, where the concert pianist/composer, who is also a Polish pilot, meets an American newswoman covering the war there. They meet again in NYC and get married, and she tries to prevent him from returning to the air force. He attempts a kamikaze attack on a Nazi war plane and barely survives but has lost his memory. Eventually his estranged wife, who has come looking for him, helps him regain it...
I loved everything about it, including the faster than usual tempo...except for the cough from somewhere in the audience, around the middle of the concerto! It sounded like it was maybe the camera-handler who coughed?... Oh, well, when you've gotta cough, you've gotta cough...
Anyway, this was a beautiful and energetic rendition. Wonderful main performer, wonderful orchestra.
this is really one of the versions where both the orchestra AND the pianist have done an excellent job. however, i think she plays it way too fast. its meant to be expressive and with emotion.
Leokadia333: if you really want a CD with the "Warsaw Concerto" by Richard Addinsell, I can send you a copy absolutely free, if you give me your mail box. Thanks. Lykanthropus100.
Bravo!! You did great!! This is a difficult Piano Concerto and you mastered it like few!! I recently recorded it anf god knows what i`ve strugled to pull it off!! Congratulations!!
Although I'd give my right leg to be able to play like her, I *PERSONALLY* like the piece placed more slowly. To me, it affords it more 'feeling'. However, isn't that the wonderful thing about music? Nothing is solid. We can all take from it what we will, and give to it what we feel...which is *EXACTLY* what she's doing here. Wonderful!
So many pianists who post this on youtube, while certainly excellent players, just play this piece too damn slow. Maria Lupascu, however, plays with a perfect blend of virtuosity and expression.

David Esparza Aguirre
