Why do people clap? It's like clapping when a person parks a car rofl. Landing procedures are practiced and performed so many times that crews know the approaches like the backs of their hands, especially in good visibility.
Not strange at all - in Atlanta - we handel up to 5 planes landing at the same time!!!!! You can always tell an airplane of foreigners - they applaude when the plane lands!!!!!!! Same in Europe - then the wheels touch down - everybody applaudes!!!!!!!!!!!
@dingdongditch1000, Why would they be speaking english first when they're a german airline FOOL! they probably made the second announcement in english it was like that when i flew KLM
I think the pilots and the cabin crew appreciate the clapping especially after a long flight. I always thank the flight attendants and pilot after landing.
@Ferrariman601 one time on a 10 hour flight, i clapped like in this video during landing, and many people looked at me as if "why is this idiot clapping for?"
needless to say, i was embarrassed. why didn't people clap with me? :( *sniff*
why did that flight go all the way to the top of america then down could you not have just gone strate down from frankfurt instead please reply soon thanks and great vid 5 stars
sorry i don't know the reason.. but they don't fly from the top of america down...actually the aircraft flies a curve over greenland and then changes the course to southwest and flies straight on to miami etc.
I think these are called the polar tracks, in which airliners fly across the Arctic Circle as opposed to going across the Atlantic. The map that you see at 0:06 is a Mercator Projection map, which distorts the shapes and distances of continents. If you look on an actual globe, or Google Earth, the distance through the Arctic and the rest of the US is surprisingly shorter that crossing the Atlantic.
Its called North Atlantic Tracks (NAT's). Aircraft wich cross the Atlantic are flying via these tracks because the aircraft gets in an airstream above the Atlantic ocean. Then they can fly faster.
Hmm, not the airstream but the track up there is actually shorter. Think of it this way. You can walk around the north pole in 4 steps but if you were on the equator it would take you a couple of years to walk around the earth to actually walk around the north pole.
No, there is really a stong airstream above the Atlantic Ocean. In this windstream are strong winds with 400km/h. That's why the NAT's are updated every day to get the exact position of the airstream.
I got told off by India airlines for filming during take off and landing. They were so strict, and I couldn't understand their accent. And no, giving them a quarter to them didn't work. :(
@mannem88 it's because of the curve of the earth. It´s faster to fly over greenland then to fly strate from frankfurt because the earth is there not so big,#
the world is round, and from parts of europe such as germany, it is basically a straight line, but when the map is flat it just looks like it goes up then down
@ahocknul04 the flight takes that path because it is actually shorter. The plane uses the earth's curvature to fly. It would be easier to look at it on an actual globe rather than a flat map.
@ahocknul04 Just take a globe and have a look at it and you'll have your answer. It only looks like the plane making a curve because you have the globe spread out as a flat two-dimensional sheet. But if you take a real globe and follow the route with the point of a pen you'll see that what looks like going "straight" would actually be the longest possible routing of the flight.
its because of the NATs (north atlantic tracks) there are usualy always 4 active, some are more nothern and some are more southern, this flight had one of the northn one.
@ahocknul04 Actually, flighs from Germany to the USA go up to the North because the routing that way is more direct and shorter than if they flew over the Atlatic. At the same time, it´s safer because they´ve got more airports where they can divert in case of emergency. If you want to test it yourself, grab a thread, put it on a globe and see that the distance from Frankfurt to Miami is shorter if you go to the north and then "down" again along the east coast than if you go direct.
@ahocknul04 try to follow the flight path on a globe, you will see that the curve over greenland is much shorter than flying direct, due to the fact that the earth is a ball
@ahocknul04 That's because if you look at a globe that is curved (ofc) you see that taking the route over greenland is the shortest route. Taking it straight as you see it on a 2D map you'll see on the globe that this is a big detour
@ahocknul04 this is because planet earth is round. if you take a globe and plot the shortest route from frankfurt to miami, you'll see it is the shortest, if you would go on a straight line on a map, on the globe it will be a curve and so the other way around, if you have such a curve via greenland, on the globe you will see it is shorter! Thank you.
The reason for going all the way up to North America is due to the fact that it's a lot quicker. This is due to the Earth's shape. If you have a globe, try and plot the route! :)
@ahocknul04 There are special routes used when crossing the Atlantic. These routes change daily depending mainly on weather (winds aloft). The auto-routing algorithm may be instructed to act differently in relation to North Atlantic Tracks, depending on the value of the "NATs" option: There are also speed and altitude restrictions set for different NAT's(NAT's=North atlantic tracks)

@ahocknul04 the polar route is the fastest route if you flying to america. if you fly say from frankfurt to new york, take a globe and a string, becoz the world is round, using the string, measure the distance between that 2 point, st1 using the polar route and the 2nd using a direct straight line, which is the shortest string??
