  • Hey look I was kidding .. humanity is not owned by Neil fans. Sorry Bob - you are very cool too.

  • Lyrical Genius: Neil Young (well from 1966-1980 for Neil)

    Musical Genius: Neil Young

Chameleon Genocide: Bob Dylan (well from 1960 - 1976 for Bob)

More of a bastard : Bob, particularly in movie Don't look back.

More from the heart : Neil

There, first in time and seeker and seer (visionary): Bob Dylan

Hey Bob is still top 25 in my book of rock. Neil is King. People who don't get Neil lack all humanity and can't be my friend (well that's a benefit)

  • I can't get over how they're making rap remixes of this song........... Why can't people listen to the song the way it was written? This is music.... this is not someone just speaking with slang into a microphone, it's someone singing. Thank you God for giving us Neil. Music would never EVER be the same.

  • Lyrical genius:

    Bob

    Musical genius:

    Neil

    :)

  • This guy has always been a classic. His songs and music are timeless.

  • exellent no one band

  • So amazing Love Neil so much

  • love ya DAD this ones for you

  • he put on a great concert in my hometown

  • release on DVD the old Sheperds Bush Empire Theatre concert!!!!! its on tube here

  • @NicktheBarber31 neil is a close second. dylan is the greatest to ever pick up a musical instrument

  • @PWhis sorry but Dylan cant live with this man

  • @SAHBfan1

Dylan can't live with any man... I'm sorry, he's a cynistic manhater...

    Great music thou

  • @SAHBfan1 dont be daft!

  • Not.

  • Yeah, the guy at the beginning is the caretaker who inspired the song. If you watch the whole show you get more of the story, highly recommended.

  • does anyone know if he will be touring le noise in the uk?

  • Apparently, Neil wrote this song about an older gentleman that worked on Neil's ranch. I wonder if the man depicted at the beginning is the one referenced in the song...

  • the absolute insanity, the horror ,the horror I tell you ,of connecting this, with maybe another tricky rightwing teabagger ready to send this country back to Crazy King Uranus or what ever drives or leeds them today

  • I've met a lot of old men in my life . Most of them I could relate to.

In fact, I'm getting old :-)

    Thanks Neil!

  • ohh my god! i've been looking for this song forever! thankyou!

  • @MistyMountainsky ...fucking dumbass...

  • @FlameSama1 I stand by my opinion fucking dumb ass.I notice you wrote nothing that may sway me otherwise.I'll give you this much however,I DO think he is a terrific songwriter.Just keep him away from a mic.

  • @MistyMountainsky

Why would I try to sway you? You don't strike me as someone I'd bother explaining talent to, so I stand by MY opinion that you're an idiot.

  • @FlameSama1 I agree he is a very talented singer and songwriter. His voice is unusual and unique; I really like his voice.

  • he's great

  • fuck off (N)

  • this is amazing

  • Love it. My favorite songs from Neil are Cowgirls in the sand & Southern Man from the 4 way street live album. Neil and Stephen Stills on guitars were awesome together. 4 way street is still one of my favorites.

  • dylan was a song writer not a singer. any real dylan fan knows he starts fist fights over calling him a singer

  • When Neil was 24 and I was 21 I thought "It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you" was a cold remark. Now I know it's just the way it is. I love my own sons more than my own life. Sometimes they return that love and other times it doesn't mean that much to them mean that much to me. Love as we grow older doesn't mind if its not returned in the same strength. Greg Gibbs of Portland Oregon [by way of Santa Rosa, Watsonville & Fresno]

  • neil old

  • The First song i every learned how to play on the guitar

  • Love the story and the guitar play

  • master songwriter performer

  • I'm a big fan of late 80's/90's rock (can't ya tell by my username?) and I can really see from this video where a lot of those groups said Neil Young was a big inspiration to them. To me this whole video and even this song speaks early 90s to me. Well a precurser to early 90s.

  • master songwriter performer..

  • i don't think better than dylan, different...early metaphorical genius of dylan is tough to beat...my chemical romance's gerard way is the only one i've seen come close...

neil young is right next to dylan in my eyes though..

  • defiantly a huge impact on music you can feel his emotion in this song

  • Why don't we have music like this anymore, now a day's the music is just a bunch of head banging crap or lyrics that you can't even figure out what their saying(rap)crap.

  • A Martin D45, the best sounding acoustic guitar ever made. A perfect example of getting what you pay for.

Neil Young is one of the best acoustic players ever.

  • وش ذااا

والله ان بشير حمد شنان احسن منكم عزززف

    وش هالسخافه هاذي

  • If you want a modern day Neil Young, check out Unbunny. Similar sound, fantastic.

  • A hard hitting song...

  • Why is Kylie Minogue in the suggestions? It's like gazing up at the Sistine Chapel and having your buddy say, "Man, you think this is cool? My kid nephew drew a picture of his house, and he almost managed to color within the lines."

  • What can i say for this man?maybe Forever young...

  • wow nice music i wonder what his fassion

  • NIce

  • My. Favorite. Song. Of all time.

When i hear it i just think of how, no matter who you are, once you strip us down to our cores we all want the same things out of life; to love and be loved

  • @TitaniumByFire i'm gonna be honest, i didn't like your comment very much

  • I like this better than the studio recording.

  • awesome i love this song

  • I've always loved this song. My dad was a huge Neil Young fan and he even named me after the guy so yeah! I remember looking at those old original neil young albums he had the old records but sadly they all got destroyed because of water damage. Very good music !

  • Neil is such a legend man he had such crazy meaning and he was only 24 when we wrote this song wow.

  • Thank you Neil. I really feel this song in my soul... and it is good!

  • This old man asked to you: how can you have so much money young man to buy this farm...And you said you had luck..The old man knew you are allright and so I think to...I love your music and your voice and the way you are....With many thanks for the new horizonts you showed me as I was a young girl and much love..

    Yours

    Monique

  • A beautiful, cool song from a beautiful, cool man . . . My highlight of the CSNY 1974 concert at Wembley Stadium was Neil singing 'Old Man' . . . 72,000 people gave a huge ovation . . .

  • I was a young man when this song was new. And now I'm an old man. Still a good song.

  • WOW

  • Hey boubandtudy, I am probably as old as your old man and I admire that you are thoughtful enough to make these comments. You're Dad should be proud that he did such a good job raising you. So many others did such less.

  • very deep song makes you think of the good old days

when you said [old man look at my life]

  • @MjkeG audio and performance are awesome dude

  • @MjkeG audia and performance are both awesome dude, wtf you talking about?

  • Love you Neil

  • SO where the hell is After the Garden? Only one crappy version by csn&y! Anyone?

  • how come i have never heard of this guy before now, is he not popular in musical history, he sounds just as good as Dylan

  • Ha, he is very popular.

  • hes canadian

  • @h3nriee i dare say he's better than dylan

  • @NicktheBarber31 You'd be right in saying so!

  • @TitaniumByFire Well aren't you the stereotypical dumbass, only white supremacy works for you huh.... Better get back to your trailer dude, I think your sister-daughter is being molested by your brother-uncle again...

  • @Unszane How do you know a "White person" made that comment? You are a fucking bigot and a hypocrite!!!!

  • @NicktheBarber31 Yes, but only to you.

  • @NicktheBarber31 He's the best ever. Period.

  • @h3nriee He's been round a long time :) .

Do the songs Heart of Gold, Down by the River, Rockin in the Free World and Harvest Moon not ring any bells?

If not, go check them out.

  • where the hell have you been living?! lol, neil diamond is a legend!

you know, the one where the old guys pay you 25 cents to jerk them off ...

    ha! ha! asshole.

  • Simply beautiful ...this song is real & Neil Young know's how to write good music. Love the video ...thanks for the post!

  • I agree! Thanks for sharing!

  • He was playing this on TV yesterday I loved unfourtunatley I did not hear don't let it bring you down

  • this song is incredible, i remember first hearing it six years when i was 7, since then somehow i remembered it!!

  • I saw him perform this last night. He still sounds as good today as he did when he was 20. He's amazing.

  • One of the greatest songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

  • Wasn't he 24 when he wrote this song? Talk about beyond his years.

  • Naw...he was 26

  • ok...he was 22

  • He was born November 12th 1945, which makes him 63 years old. Back in 1971, on January 19th when this was recorded (the audio at least, the video is from January 22nd) he was 25 years old, but he wrote the song in the fall of 1970, at which time he was 24. Ironically, by the first time he performed it, on 1970-11-30 the lyrics were already no longer correct...

Either that, or he couldn't find anything that rhymed with 25 in the way he liked.

  • I am going to see Neil for the first time in Toronto next month with my 20 year old son. He is one of only a few artists that appeals to so many. The first album I ever bought was After the Gold Rush and I was hooked. The man is a legend.

  • Cheers to that, Wish I was there and have a great time.

    /jelous

  • I love Neil and the Replacements too. If anyone near Philly or Delaware County loves either I have all their records and we can listen and hang out. Looking for friendship on You Tube maybe sounds a little desperate, I admit, but I am sincere.

  • neil young is so inspirational. i don't know how people could dis him in anyway.

  • The soundtrack is out of synch with the film. Is it the studio version soundtrack?

  • bad vibe

  • I'm a year younger than you, but listen to me and quit the emo bull, I don't care if your depressed because your parents split or somthing, how do think Neil feels? Use Neil as a roll modle, not something to cry over, but any body who likes Neil, I like them.

  • ......emo sucks

  • God, why don't they make stuff like this anymore?

  • they do, your just not lookin

  • He was what? 26 years old here? I didn't even know who I was when I was 26...I guess he was just born brilliant...What are we going to do when Neil Young is gone?

  • The Best of the Best, i love you Neil

Oberhausen 09.07.09 (Germany) I´m so happy

  • absolute class! this guy should live forever|

  • The older I get, the smarter my dad was. Im 23 and the music today doesnt have this type of feel. My generation missed it.

  • Wiser words have not been spoken.

  • @boubandtudy You might be looking in the wrong place. Look up city and colour

  • what is wrong with neals voice i for one love it the man is so talented all around i dont know who else can write such beautiful songs and then play the harmonica guitar and do the vocals and sound amazing live

  • timeless...

  • best song ever i look now and i see what it really mens when your young you cant understand this song i see how im like im my dad this is song has deep meaning i want it played at my funeral good job neil!

  • he is une of the best.

  • Neil Young has got to be one of the best songwriters of all time... old Neil sticks it to all those ignorant of the fact that music is more than a fast yet simple guitar solo or vocals overloaded with sound effects... There's something about Canadian artists like Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot or Simon and Garfunkle that makes them such great songwriters...

  • It's because Canada during that time was the absolute best place in the world to live. It's still amazing but they had it the best. I agree Neil Young is by far my favorite song writer and it's arguable that he is the best of all time.
