i see some people on both sides of the argument wanting busy streets and others wanting lawn chairs. there is a solution. why not make lawn chairs on wheels?
The criminal Zionist gov if can kill their own 3000 innocent citizen just to create a reason for attack on Iraq and Afghanistan by pre-plan to take American into war and terror and destroy it finically can create 100 of faisal shazad. It's not strange to the world people. Is it justice from 10 year everyday by using all types of dirty new technology killing everyday Pakistani and Mus all over the world and making 1000 of people homeless they will not take revenge and they will love to American?
exactly, when I go to times square I wanna see taxis and a busy atmosphere. Not a bunch of fat asses passed out on lawn chairs. I like making areas of broadway car-free but please not Times Square.
Ridiculous. It looks like a mockery of the city. Its a city not a damned amusement park! People live and work there, things have to get done, people have to be able to get to where they have to go, on time! All this does is make the city look stupid and allow fat annoying tourists to rest their underdeveloped legs.
I will laugh when the homeless start using those chairs as beds. Then we'll see what Bloomberg does!
Excellent! I am amazed how aggressive people react. This is one of the best things that have happened to NYC since the development of Central Park.
That is not New York sounds like a conservative quote from the middle 60ties Europe. The US is so fare behind in terms of infrastructure and public space.
NYC is one of the few places in the US where people dares to think innovative, and not are struck by fear of change.
I like this. Oh no, people would bitch and moan becasue they don't get what they want the second they ask for it. Not only that, there are hundreds of streets in New York, go around the croud. But I don't think they are truely treating the problem. Cars need alternate fuel sources, and oil companies are too greedy to give up that hold on teh American people.
They should do this on the Vegas Strip, too...just like they did for Fremont Street. The traffic is so jammed up there, it's pointless to have cars on it at all.

I 2nd that. I come to times square because it symbolizes the epitome of a metropolitan. If I want peace and tranquility Ill go to Montana or Beach.

Open the street to delivery trucks in the wee hours of the morning and leave it to the pedestrians the rest of the time.

They should do this every sunday. I mean in Tokyo they do that to the Ginza area every sunday too since the 70's.

Excellent time. More pedestrians in the square means more customers and it gives an overall improvement to the quality of life during hard times.
