@TheAquaguppy you shouldnt worry about what goes in the amazon, these people have done this for countless generations, better focus on something that is close to home.
This is their culture man! They can poison fish and water indiscrimanately in the name of culture. This is taking place just outside Miami, right? It is like telling Hispanics in L.A. they can no longer grafitti private property. It is just wrong and racist!
l your comment on hispanics.........it is Very Racist......why do peolple have to be classified under...just because they were not born in NORTH america.....FYI.....North...central and South.......it is ALL America.........They do this and have been doing it for centuries......it is wrong for our standards now......but let me just ask you......what do you think of the meth labs and all the shit that you fellow "AMERICANS" put out in the streets??????
@danieltarpon Well...to be quite honest, my comment was meant to be funny. if anyone is offended; too bad. In regards to your questions about "my fellow Americans", I they are just performing a high tech version of what these indians are doing. Grow a thicker skin, find the funny in the macabre, and enjoy life my friend.
@dmillsify Sorry I didn´t get the humor in your comment....Regarding the High tech version,,,I don´t see it that way.....I do have a thick skin that has developed through the years.....I do enjoy life.....Again.....was simply not funny for me...........hope you get the message my friend............
yes, i hope you told them they shouldn't do this anymore. it kills all the fish fry and invertebrates in the stream, not just the big fish! i spent 2 years in tena, ecuador teaching the kichwa this in vane. or at least tell them next time you're there.
In the USA the active chemical is known as Rotenone and here in Florida it is used to rid small lakes and ponds of imported exotic unwanted fish like Piranha.
We use this root in Laos, southeast asia. But we use it in fast river to stun the fish, and wait in shallow water to pick up the BIG fish only. In fast water, smaller fish will only be knock-out for a while.
@kongmong579 - yep I am hmong. We use this root in Laos too. It doesn't kill the fish, just stun the fish for a while, but often Hmong over use it and many small fishes die in small rivers or creeks in Laos.
Barbasco root kills smaller fish species... The idea that it only "stuns" them is wrong. This technique is also used to fish ornamental fish species, with similar fatal results.
These people have been doing this for hundreds of years.

I need these roots commercially if they are availble in large qty. Cheers
fair11111 4 years ago
Why would you need these roots commercially in large quantity? Do you have a lake full of unwanted fish?
There are probably plenty of cheaper piscicides out there.
