  • John, we will always miss your amazing drumming faces.

  • 240p we meet again

  • Who knew James Hetfield sang for Styx before Metallica ;)

  • @casbah1982 Lol JY and James Hetfield are pretty damn similar

  • @casbah1982 he did not.

  • The Paradise Thetre Tour can't be matched! And I saw it!!

  • Wow. I love this song and have NEVER seen a proper version of it. THANK YOU!!

  • I saw Styx in concert when I was in Nagoya Japan. JY, Dennis and Tommy were so great at that night. I still remember!

  • ahh.... styx in one of their last greatest moments. i hope one day they remaster this show and put it out on dvd. awesome.

  • This is one of the best film clips of Styx on YouTube - shows then at their true awesome best!

  • tommy shaw looks like napolean dynomyte in this.

  • Sing it JY!!!!

  • 長年探し求めていたビデオだったので、感激は一塩でした。

    NHKのヤングミュージックショウでonairされたと思います。

    カッコいいです。

    この曲で、tommyのギターは名古屋公演ではクールな表情だったのが印象的でした。

  • incredible ending. just incredible...

  • que exelente grupo eran me recuerdan mi epoca de liceo....

  • JY!!!! Still awesome as ever! I just saw these guys 2 days ago and they haven't aged in 30 years! Amazing live show.

  • One of the greatest songs not well known.

  • In my humble opinion I reckon that this one of the greatest rock pieces of all time.

  • why did dennis shave his mustache in the middle of the concert?

  • this is sooo f****** great

  • "bestmusicexpert" I believe a video from this tour is available from Amazon or an "outside seller" through their website.

  • I saw Styx in concert from the Styx 2 album to the Kilroy was Here album then again on the Return to Paradise tour and you are right. Dennis was Styx. Tommy did not like the fact that Dennis made productions out of the 2 albums (Paradise and Kilroy) and that is eventually what cause the breakup the first times. Tommy would have been better in a band like Damn Yankees for a long period but got tired of Nugent too.

    .

  • Paradise Theater and Styx 2 were my all time favorites of theirs. Wish they had stuff out there in the way of live audio or video from Styx 2 songs!

  • Anyone know if this show is out on DVD or video? I would LOVE to see a whole Paradise Theater show. Also, anyone know the setlist for this show?

  • The setlist for the US leg went like this:

    State Street Sadie (intro)/AD 1928/Rockin the Paradise/Blue Collar Man/The Grand Illusion/Lights/Lady (with Dennis piano solo)/Tommy Acoustic Solo/Crystal Ball/Suite Madame Blue/Snowblind/Too Much Time On My Hands/Great White Hope/State Street Sadie/The Best of Times/Foolin' Yourself/JY Solo/Miss America/Bane/Renegade (with drum solo)/Come Sail Away/Borrowed Time/Half Penny Two Penny/AD 1958/State Street Sadie and Grand Finale (tape)

  • I have this concert on video tape yet.

  • I agree with you Dennis was Styx. Styx from 1977 to 1984 took names and kicked ass on stage. Watching this show and the Largo show from 1981 showed Dennis was the driving force in Styx. Also, DDY was lone member of Styx with head screwed on right as he didn't smoke nor do any drugs nor drink. When they fired him, that was as bad as when Phil Collins left Genesis (at least his split was amicable and he returned for one last tour in 2007).

  • Listen to" A Criminal Mind " by Gowan, maybe this will redeem him for you.

  • too alternative like album maybe-- cosmetic-- but criminal minds why this became an hit ?

  • man, my favorite Styx song. It's awesome that there is live video of it.

  • I saw this show in Frankfurt Festhalle Germany twice in the first row ........

    I still have the tickets.

    Absolutly Genius........Thanks

  • the album Brave New World was pretty good too

  • right

  • Tommy realy missed tat solo! Ha this video just goes to show sometimes even the pros can screw up.

  • What an incredible song! Such talented band members. Remember seeing Dennis DeYoung in the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar in Regina, Sask. in the early nineties. Fabulous!

  • Geez. Tommy is SUCKING in this one. Listen to the mistakes while JY sings verse 1. Missing strings and choppy as hell. What up with that?

  • i agree... maybe it is because hes BEEN PLAYING A WHOLE FREAKIN SHOW AND HES TIRED! I dont like him much...

  • I played guitar professionally for a long time and I never did this. I took pride in playing the parts right and yes, I played some gigs 5 hours a night. This one MAYBE lasted 2. Tommy is wussing out here for sure.

  • YUP

  • he's attempting to play J.Y's part... Styx did that type of thing quite a bit live.. I saw them MANY times.. always loved them

  • He IS playing JY's part during the verse vocals but he totally choked after JY said TOMMY! hahah Even if his stomp box wasn't on, he couldn't played SOMETHING. prob wasn't expecting JY to turn over the lead to him.

  • LOL.. yeah.. it's NOT one of his better moments.. gotta wonder if that wasn't how they rehearsed it.. I always loved Tommy.. I thought he brought a lot to the band.. even if he had his DUD moments.. :)

  • I'm a big Styx fan. I even loved Kilroy Was Here. hehehe Paradise, Pieces of Eight, cornerstone and Grand Illusion are all pretty kick arse.

  • yes

  • 最高

  • me hace recordar mucho cuando estaba en el liceo y con mis amigos lo escuchabamos mucho son geniales

  • i love both of these songs. classic styx!

  • Is every bassist the randomly serious element of the band?

  • *.*Tommy is so cute in'82.

  • Shaw's solo is impeccable. How he manages to transit from a feedback dominated heavy metal solo to a wah wah dominated balladic solo with such suave is beyond me. It's brilliant.

  • yeah no kiddin' - when you're born with a guitar pick in your mouth you can play most anything flawless, lol!!!

  • Wow! The shortest I've ever seen Tommy Shaw's hair!

  • Styx at their very BEST, SCREW Larry Gowan

  • It's not Gowan's fault. He is actually quite a good musician. He has been thrust into a bad position.

  • From what i've read (on Wikipedia, mind you, so take it with a grain...) the seeds for Dennis Deyoung's disillusionment and departure from the band began with the Kilroy Was Here album. He wanted the band to go in a different direction...which is VERY evident on that album. i think they couldn't have found a more perfect fit than Larry Gowan. He's at least the musician that DeYoung is, and he appears to be genuinely happy performing.

Besides...Styx is still touring. Where's DeYoung at?

  • Deyoung got kicked out of the band for a month in 1980. The tensions came with fame. Gowan is good, but he can't write like Deyoung, who is still touring and making albums. Desert Moon is a staple of any true classic rock fan's library.

  • I saw both Deyoung and Styx.

Deyoung completely outshowed Styx. He's 20 times the musician that Gowan is.

  • Styx belongs in the pock -n- Roll Hall of Fame.... Great song. This show the true color of the band.

  • So you mean Styx was really tinted blue? :D

  • Styx at their near best here. Difficult to beat!

  • prodigiosa !

  • Per me la miglior canzone degli Styx. Splendida anche live. Thanks Styxtoury.

  • Always thought that was the best song on the album. And you even got part of State Street Sadie in there. Five stars ain't enough for this masterpiece.

Lol remembering my country bumpkin college roommate practically falling out of his chair in shock the first time he heard "YES, MRS. CLEAVER: YOU'RE SON'S HOME TO STAY! We all know it's the American Way!"

  • this is the american way...bigger..better..great!!! styx forever..

  • Tommy shaw is SOOOO underated. His solos always ripped and fit the music instead of just being some notes. Check out his outro solo on Queen of spades or the solo on renegade.

  • JY did the solos on Queen of Spades and Renegade. Tommy decided to return the favor and play lead on Half-Penny Two Penny.

  • Are you sure? On the album 'peices of eight'?I never new. How about the rest of the album. I like the solos on most all the songs. I always thought it was tommy.

  • On the PoE album, JY did solos on "GReat White Hope", first solo to "Lords of the Ring", "Queen of Spades" and "Renegade". Tommy did the rest.

  • Things you learn as you get older. I always thougth JY was a great rocker and wondered why he didn't do more lead work.

  • Styx always shared leads to showcase each member throughout the song. It has as much to do about the live performance as anything else.

  • True. I read in Guitar magazine several years ago that JY was supposed to do the lead on this song, but Tommy asked if he could because he wanted to go wild. Tommy had played lead on the more structured tunes, while JY was the wilder rocker. This showed Tommy Shaw in a new light I believe.

  • Technically, Shaw DID do a solo version of Renegade, where he played lead guitar. It's on youtube. Check it out.

  • Styx is a great band!!!

  • One of JY's best songs, ever. What a hottie Dennis was in this video!

  • wilf4queen, Tommy's pants must be a 'tobi trousers' that sold in a workers' wear shop in Japan.

Wikipedia say it's called 'Knickerbockers (clothing)'in English.

  • Interesting to watch the historic moment in which Dennis DeYoung loses his musketeer prog moustache. Never thought he did it in front of the audience... end of an era, indeed.

  • Tommy sahw is the most underated musician ever!!!

  • Love it! I've always loved this song. And YAY, there's no hostility here. Won't say anything more.

  • I mean among the posters.

  • Okay, I said I wouldn't say anymore, but apparently I lied. What the heck is Tommy wearing (about 5:08 in the clip)?

  • Thank you for posting this and making my day.

  • WOW! I always thought that JY ONLY sung backup.. but WOW! Was I wrong! Compared to Dennis' mellow songs.. this guy gives Styx the Mighty Edge!

  • For their Wooden Nickel albums, he was one of the primary singers, and sang in a primarily high voice. After Curlewski left and Shaw joined, he went to backup and then lead on a few.

  • A Grest Styx Video

  • did they put this concert on a cd?

  • It was a japanese VHS release

  • oh ok

  • Wow, good thing Tommy shaw came along holy crap, at least Dennis did something right

  • what did Dennis do right? shave?

  • holy crap!!! talk about memory lane. i saw this show in Edmonton Canada so many years ago. the show looked just like this. only thing different is camera angles. ah the sound; the lights; the sheer musicianship; the smell of hemp...thx so much styxtoury for posting this. 5 stars and favored for the memories.

  • WOW

Tommy Shaw looks like he's 12. HAHAHA

Thanks for posting this. It made my night

  • this is killer, i love styx

  • blinking bloody brilliant!!!! Thanks for posting all these '82 videos. Tommy looks about 12 yrs old. JY is freaking gorgeous. Styx at their best-rocking out!

  • I ... Comp...lete...ly ... Ag....ree ...

What is the DEAL! This is amazing footage and even decent sound, how can this not be released!?

  • thanks for sharing!!

  • this....needs....to....be....given....a....proper....release!!!

  • It was..... In Japan...

  • First appearance of a clean-shaven Dennis DeYoung. He has remained clean shaven ever since this encore. Great number. It's actually Half Penny-Two Penny/AD 1958.

  • Look how young Tommy Shaw looks here like a kid damm He is such a clean playing guitarist.

  • Great song and Tommy is playing a nice solo

  • I thought that JY played the solo of this song but not...

  • great song . . . and a simply but fantastic Tommy`s solo

  • This is when Styx was best!

  • This song totally rocks.

  • JY is just sexy :)

  • John Panozzo KICK - MUCH - ASS! This was prime Styx 1982. Great.

  • yeah liked to party a bit too much bit he was very good

  • JY rocks!!

  • JY seems gruffy

  • wow, never see this one anymore anywhere. awesome

  • Most favourite number of "Paradise Theatre".

  • OMG...that was fu**in' awesome! Styx rules forever!!!

  • Ahh...The taking of the moustache!
