Why do these all seem to lose energy after fifteen or twenty seconds? Even the little commercial ones of today are garbage compared to the first ones to come out. The first one I saw was in the mid-1960s at a science fair for high school students. It took more than a minute to lose energy. The fellow who made it was extremely careful to make sure the balls (pool balls, in this case) were lined up as close to perfectly as he was able.

It's a shame that it loses so much energy with each swing. The fact that the suspension is so loose and that there are such large spaces between the balls adds to the problem. Great effort, though.
