Its easier to put the bearings in on both ends before putting the rod through it by putting an extra layer of grease (not too much) on top of the bearings. that usually keeps them in place.
I just rebuilt a pair of pedals today and the only hitch was the locknut. I see from this video that properly tightening the locknut on the cone nut would have been easier with a washer in between the two. I broke a slotted screwdriver trying to create dynamic tension between the two.
Thank you much for taking the time! I have been unable to use my bike for some time because I did not understand how to get the lock nut tightened without freezing the pedal up until I happened upon this video. You are a blessing.
great videos mate!

Is the locknut on the other left pedal also opposite thread?
RVDBNL 1 month ago
@RVDBNL The threads for the cone and locknut are right threaded (normal thread) for both left and right pedals.

Excellent video. Helped me out. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Plus a smooth MidWestern accent is very helpful as well.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
My pedals have been making a horrible noise and I'm assuming it's the ball bearings needing grease. THANKS.
