to all the people that think this is a bari you are retarded. i have played the bari for 8 years and it's not hard o tell the difference. if you really need to know just look how much the crook is longer.
the thing with the bari is that you have to use so much air it is crazy. i tried to play one of my friends alto's the other day and all i got was screechs becuase i couldn't limit the air flow right
that is a bass sax. look at the distance from the neck to the first crook, which is right above his left thumb. Then, look at the top of the sax, right near the top of his head, down to almost his knees. Way to long to be a bari. Lastly, at about 2:18, you can see a stand on the bottom of the bell. No bari has that, but if you find a picture of a selmer bass sax, you will recognize it immediately.
Very nice playing, good band, congratulations! Check out some bass sax colleagues with the first bass sax quartet ever, called "deep schrott", here on youtube!
Did Selmer ever make a Mark VI bass and contra bass saxophone? I wish now that I would have purchased a 1971-72 Mark VI Baritone Sax during my high school years. They costs only $970 back then. Granted, that was a lot of money back then, but still, what a bargain! The bass saxophonist is very good in this video.
Selmer produced Mark VI bass saxophones, no contra basses. I play the bari in several bands, I wish I had my hands on a Mark VI bari too :( My dad plays a Mark VI Alto, it sounds gorgeous. He bought it in high school for $800!
Please stop before you embarrass yourself urther. It is dreadfully clear that you do not know the difference between a Bari sax and a Bass sax. You also claim this is a Selmer which it is obviously not. You then proceed to bulk up your position and claim to own a few. You make me sad, very very sad. It is very clear that you are having a delusion and are in need of a physician. Please do not drive an automobile or get next to any sharp objects until such time. Regards..
The owner of the sax does state that it is a new Selmer BBb. It sounds like a Bari to you because you are a noob and you dont know the differce. He is playing in the upper register you noob! Duuhh
Dude, I hear exactly what you are saying. You are exactly right as to the fact he's playing in the upper register, I would also like to point out one last thing though. This may sound somewhat like a Baari because he is using a modified neck, which can take a Bari mouthpiece on this bass.
the way i tell the diffrences between the saxophones is simple
sopraninos and soprillos are so small they look like toys, altos curve straight down from the mouthpeice, tennors curve up a bit and then go down, bari's turn around once, and the turn around only comes up an inch or so above the mouthpeice, the bass comes up a good 4 or 5 inches, and the contrabass comes up about a foot and a half
Man...did you have to take out a mortgage to afford it? Hah, just kidding, but really nice playing for sure. Those are a pretty penny, though...my Selmer alto was about a sixth of what that bad boy must have cost.
Wow buddy, you must be on some really good stuff to believe that is a baritone saxophone. Pass the bong, that must be some good stuff that you're smoking.
I'd like to buy one of this sax, I like the way you play, and I would like to play it (I already play alto sax). Can you tell me where to buy such an instrument?
This is the (extremely expensive around 18k) new style Selmer bass. The sound is thinner than with the old ones (which are harder to play, but sound better; around 7,5k. check for vintage saxes: two dealers in Germany). I got a chinese one (old style, 4k) which is okay. Check out Benedikt Eppelsheim as well (ar. 12-18k).
And: its a pity he doesn't use the low register for the solo.
Wow! What a great bass sax player! Thank you for posting this.

Truly some of the best bass sax playing I've heard. That tone just rocks! Sweet like butter, with a lovely edge and a powerful roar.
And even a great solo to. You, my man, are one artist!

All,
If this is what Selmer now touts as a BBb Bass Sax, so be it. It sounds like a Bari to me, I don't care what ANYONE says!
I OWN Adrian Rollini's and Joe Rushton's CONN Bass saxes as well as a nice 1950's Holten, repleat with very RARE Kaspar mouthpieces.
The horn on this vidio will NEVER EVER BARK like a real deal bass sax will. Period!
I'm taking YOU to school on this! But PLEASE do not discount the artist on the this video, he plays VERY well and much enjoy his playing.

But besides that he's playing very well.
