  • I am a member of Holy Trinity Brompton, where NIcky GUmbels preaches. I can tell you quite honestly that behind the scenes the knives are out. They are such control freaks. People who disagree are punished by being excluded from all social events, and can even be surrounded by bullies and physically removed.

The real church does not have hierarchy - there is no abuse of power - as there is at HTB

  • that wasn't one question love...

  • Is there anyone on here who knows alot about the bible and can answer questions about it?

  • @MegaCrazycatt Hmm, I can try. If I can't I could help find references.

  • Lord Jesus I love you!

  • I would ask God why his fan club are so stupid.

  • Cute Brit is cute.

  • Don't be duped by this evangelist propaganda. You don't need religion to tell you what to think or do. You are perfectly able to think for yourself. The bible is a book written by several authors, many of them far away from the events in time + space. It's an untrustworthy and superstitious source. Further, it is full or war, murder and revenge- I wouldn't want to derive my morals from it. Anyway, enjoy your life without having to fear an unprovable celestial supervisor or made-up"holy spirit".

  • @Freethinking2010. I can't agree more. The ideas of people like Emerson, Thoreau and Dyer are what I live by. They all emphasize the need to think independently, form your own ideas of how to live; to never look outside of yourself or 'in the sky' for answers, as they all lay within. The best quote from Thoreau that I always repear is 'Insist on yourself; never imitate'

  • @sailbeyondthesunset Nice quote. For me, young minds are so important, because of their power to think, imagine, dare, try, create - minds still untarnished by the cynicism which comes with adulthood/middle age! So, I will always try my best to make sure those minds aren't closed to doubt and questioning by the totalitarian and irrational superstitions of religion.

  • @Freethinking2010 . Good point, the minds of the young are important, especially with the advent of such rapid technological advancement (in regard to electronic media). It's a shame that Thoreau et al isn't on the curriculum in schools in the UK!

  • Lots of questions, but religion won't give you the answers. The alpha course in partic. won't give you the answers. Don't let your inquisitive mind be brainwashed by the superstitious doctrine of christianity. Nothing they say is evidence-based, rather they just come up with platitudes eg "god loves" and "the holy spirit is with you". These words mean nothing. Science, reason and philosophy teach us a little more everyday (unlike religion which makes the arrogant claim of knowing the truth).
