I don't think you're right about the lats disengaging, but I think what happens is due to perhaps underactivate insufficiency and upward scapular rotation (and elevation) maybe the load shifts to other muscles of the back.
You could be right about lat emphasis but if we are okay with and maybe even want to build other back muscles, isn't it okay to stretch at the top? I am worried about tight lats making overhead pressing difficult so stretching at the top I hope helps it.
@lonelli111 well since you are the one that objected to me saying he should put a shirt on, that must mean you are a fag. keep staring at him you queer!
The only thing High about him is his inflated opinion of himself. Keep it classy friendly are exceptionally generous like you always do Scott! Really appreciate your experience and advice. Its a great service.
He is showing you how to use machines. He's not saying you can only benefit from strict iron Olympic free weights with 10 people around you. You DON'T have to have free weights to gain muscle, people!
@ILikeToitIes actually you have to have free weights to gain decent muscle. There's not a single fit person out there who has become fit using only machines. Machines work perfectly, but not alone. Think you're just afraid to do it a bit more old school, cuz in the end it's harder because you have to stabilize and so forth, cuz it's only you and the weight.
Well I'm 38 and I can tell you I've tried it all. I've done 5x5, HST, 30 reps down to 3 reps, once per week, twice per week, and 3 and 4 times per week.
Most of these cookie cutter "lock in place" systems don't work for the majority. There is the reason most people don't go by these strict systems. There's 3 reasons Scott has inspired me to get back to working out after a long lay off;
I never understood the attitude from these folks who say you HAVE to lock out the joints at the end of the exercise (take squats for example).
You can clearly see it disengages the lats when you go all the way up with the weight. I'd rather keep my lats engaged, as well.
You're all about HIT MR but have you ever heard of TUT? Time Under Tension is the most important aspect of working out, besides the weight you use. You LOOSE this if you fully lock out joints and extend lats.
The term TUT is actually a way we HITters measure our progression for the most part. I dont get your point here buddy? - Keeping your muscles under full contraction during a full range of motion is of course important. We HIT guys stress that point a lot. I got over 60 phone clients and over 30 gym clients that train under my supervision and I really don't have time to start a pissing contest with this kid - when you all ready to get some advanced advice...feel free to contact me - MR
hey scott i got a question... i grow muscles fast and some would take that for granted but i got a problem... when i do some back exercises i feel my upper back way too much and i dunno how i could avoid it, because i hate those muscles near my neck (dunno how you call them) to grow bigger... it makes me look like a monkey.
hey scott ya man wtf? some people have no life. except the one they have on youtube. or in their case, immadouchetube. LOL. anywho, have a good week and thanksgiving. cant wait for some good stuffing! later budd
I am almost 40 years old with over 23 years experience...thats why I call you kiddo ..kiddo - as far as caliber goes...yes indeed I am - have worked with some of the greatest when you were shitting in your pants still buddy - I was trying to give you some tips here but u wanna be a wise ass..go fuck off kiddo - MR
If you refering to me..I don't use barbells for the most part - I leave that to "caveman" that still haven't realized that machines are the better choice - LOL
Don't get so defensive kiddo - when you grow up and learn what I know you will look at things hopefully differently and maybe even take some advice from someone of the caliber of me. lol
Its impossible to remember each single rep increase for anyone - reps and weight have to be exaclty measured - in other words..you need to know wether you di 7 reps or 9 reps last time with lets say 100 pounds for example - each workout CAN be and should be a slight progression even if its just a single rep as long as the rep cadence stays the same. Most trainers and trainees do not keep an exact workout log and therefore are like blind leading the blind - MR
'deactivating you lats' ?- actually you providing a full range of motion by going all the way - which will provide a greater growth stimulus. Your video is well done otherwise
I agree about the range of motion, if u get that extra inch then its an extra inch harder on the muscles, if u dont have any pause at the top of the movement then the most that the lats aren't going to be engaged is a split second but its worth it to gain that extra inch (or watever) in the range, MRht has 11years ahed so is bound to be bigger (which he is) but i dont agree on documentin evry rep n weight, i believe in lisenin to ur body n makin slight increases in weight each week! easy 2 rembr
Listening to your body? - there is NO instinctive way to measure your workouts - each workout can be and should be an improvement - that is if you understand that even a single rep increase is an increase, given that the rep cadence is the same. I can only stress the importance of a workout log therefore - it will guide as a great motivation - basically a guide to adjust, frequency-volume and intensity...which are the main factors playing part in a successful journey to a muscular physique -MR
scott how long would u think it would take to gain at least 4 or 5 inch on your hole arms with a ok diet? also get a bigger chest an shoulder? thanks :D p.s 5/5 ;)
gr8 vid scott, but whats the difference between when u lock ur legs in & when u don't? ....so the 2nd postion won't work ur back ? only works the core?
I pulled my leg on a exercise bike today and now its all mangled*lol*, anyways good work out Scott!. Btw your skin looks so smooth and soft!, you'd make a perfect cuddle bug*heh*.
Excellent as always - Excellent body and physique along with super information and wow the "eye candy" gets better with every video I see, but, more importantly, so does the trust I place in your information and advice to better improve my knowledge and understanding of exercise physiology and it's true relationship to an outstanding workout..just amazing how dedicated you are to your body and to sharing that dedication with others so willingly to help so many succeed at becoming and staying fit
I find it really hard to bend "arch"my back.....>.> i can see why it works...it just feels weird. Thanks scott for another awesome video.....nice back!!!! lol BTW i killed the last stalking squirrel but i sent another one that better camouflages lol

1) He isn't arrogant and have the attitude that "hey you're lucky you found ME"
THAT turns so many beginners off that are researching and trying to learn.
2) He IS a kid! And look at that development!!! WOW! I think the proof is in HIS pudding more than in yours. Sorry.
3) He is helping people by teaching them proper technique and consistency while eating properly. No strict "my way or NO WAY" systems, none of that.
I've learned to listen to people like "kiddo" here. ;)
