  • There is no better voice than Pitney's.

  • wonderfull

  • is this song really from 1967.. holy fuck man

  • cool voice :D

  • clearly out of sync..wtf....totally irritating..like watching a badly dubbed bruce lee movie.....

  • Unique voice

  • nonetheless the version together with marc almond is the better one.

  • I just listen to this song on VH1 Classic..I wanted to listen more, so i youtube it :)

  • Died with his boots on in 2006 in Cardiff.

This is from around 1968 (or was it 1868) at the Beat Club, a German pop show styled on similar British versions of the time. It never quite topped the charts at the time, he had to wait until 1989 for that in a duo with Marc Almond.

  • MAKES ME THINK OF MY GRANDAD LOVE YOU M8 AND I MISS YOU COREY MAYES

  • The legendary Beat Club...

  • this is A MAN

  • Amen to that! Yes, it seems that every word and every tune in this song is important.

  • What counts is songs that can reach your soul, and this one such song.Sensational

  • barry white

  • horrible lack of sync :/

  • i always love genes voice x

  • I never thought I would get this old. I rember dancing to this a child in search of a life.

  • Wow, shame to say I'd never heard the original only the MA collaboration! which I also love I'd also never seen Gene Pitney young

  • love this song

  • sydämeni osuman sai

  • Gene has one of the best and unusual singing voices, I have ever heard..superb!!!

  • This was just an amazing performance by Gene Pitney, almost enchantingly majical !!!

  • Beautiful music sung from the heart, got me through my late teen life and took me into my future life. Thank you.

  • I have so much thanks for my father who introduced me to this sort of music (in particular this song) when I was very young, I've now been able to grow up and still appreciate it. It's music like this that is truly comendable, I hope future generations enjoy it as much as the previous! x

  • @LovelyJessica24 I was born in 61 so grew up with this music. Todays music has gone down hill as far as i'm concerned

  • @mrsblobby100 i agree and im only 19 thank god for recordings, or there would be no hope for my generation

  • great singer we miss u gene . them that diss u . i would like 2 hear them sing like u. lol i think they should put theirselfs on here singing your songs. that would b a laugh

  • Superb

  • How can anyone prefer the Marc Almond version?

  • This man and his music is God's gift to all of his adoring fans. God bless you Gene. You are missed.

  • This song is awesome!

  • correction--- out of the blue --

  • I know this song for only 25 years or so.each time that I fall in love it pops up to remained me how love should feel..and sound..but this time it poped up just like that..out of the blew..and it's the first time I see the original video..very good.

  • This is Gene's song. Hands down. Marc did a great job but he's no Pitney.

  • It would be cool if the video was in sync - but that's ok, close your eyes and listen to that incredible voice! I fell in love with Gene the first song I ever heard of his.

  • @lisianblue

    and cry about lost things...

  • What do you mean, show some respect for the song? We are! It's great!

It's just that back in 1476 when I saw him we didn't get a good broadband connection so we couldn't comment. In fact many of us were burned for listening to this stuff.

  • totally out of sync.

  • 1875 was the year I was hanged as a highwayman, just 24 hours before the Gene pitney Concert started. Realy Peed me off.

  • Pity the sinc is out. Fell in love with my (ex) hubby to this song back in the day. Now it just makes me feel sad.

  • I met him also before... We were classmates. Me him and jesus...

  • I saw him in 1666 during the great fire of London....maan did he burn up the stage

  • I did actually see him year 1873. Good times!

  • Genes out of sinq ith the words to this and this makes this vid to me poor but he's still a tremendous singer pity about the vid. P A

  • correction --1975

  • @eemjmm un cantante poco conocido en españa y sin embargo con una gran voz y una sensibilidad esquisita. me encanta

  • Soulful yes, but to me not northern soulful, just me. Still rate him though. Very good.

  • Η χαμενη αθωοτητα μιας αλλης εποχης,που περασε ανεπιστρεπτι δυστυχως...

  • Classic song, this is one of my favourite Gene Pitney numbers, reminds me of growing up.

I was reminded of this song when reading a book called run by b. tilton recently. Cracking book, the mentioning of this song really brought back the memories and I had to come on here to listen to it. Its had that effect with a few songs that are mention/recited throughout the book.

    Gene Pitney- Superb

  • Haunting, voice, , rain on steel, great song writer

  • Lovable and the greek version of Vicky Leandros "to mystiko" (=the secret).

  • I noticed the date s/be 1975 lol

  • @tcvicesquad Shut up and show some respect for this song and for Gene Pitney. Get the hell out of youtube.

  • Amazing song!

  • I love this version. The 1989 version with Marc Almond was great too. How it didn't hit the top of the charts here in the 60's is beyond me. A beautiful song and Gene did it with aplomb.

  • real powerful voice,thats Gene

  • Wow that man was awesome....I have goosebumps been singing this song for 4 days now....Wow what a shame he has gone he was one fabulous singer.

  • i bet that 100000k views are mine

  • i bet that 100000k views are main

  • Gene Pitney was the only man with such a powerful undeniable vocal range who could sound heavenly enough to actually give you goosebumps on some songs whether you're male or female. My times slow dancing to "I'M GONNA BE STRONG" with my girl back then in the 60's. He's my all time top male vocalists even to date!

  • For my one true love. Still love ya and always will. No matter what. :-)

  • @TheLadyBugsie How corny.

  • @SoooBlue Are you still bored? Or have you found something else to kill time with, rather then with making these pathetic comments? Tell me...What's your fantastic contribution to this site? Live and let live, peace.

  • @TheLadyBugsie I have contributed to the site by registering as a member and have also made hundreds of uploads, which is something you can't say for yourself. Very rich coming from one who does nothing but litter the site with corny comments,

  • @SoooBlue Did I forget to thank you for all your earthshattering uploads? I'm sorry! What would the world have done without them, I can't start to imagine. I'm lmao with all the very corny and childlike jokes you've uploaded. Your sense of humour is unbelievable. Stop reading my corny comments, if they bother you so much, and eitherway don't bother to give corny comments on my corny comments anymore. Good luck with your life.

  • @TheLadyBugsie Back tracking much? It's pretty factual that I've brought more to youtube (through my multiple channels) than you have, so attempting to patronize my uploads only makes you look like the middle aged pleb that you are. I mean, what kind of middle ager posts corny comments like that? Funny stuff.

  • ik ben helemaal weg van gene pitney

zaterdag ga ik deze nummer op nemen in de studio ,,ik heb precies zo.n stem ...

  • @johanna2714 cool!

  • happy birthday gene ..mine too ...hope your singing with the angel's:)

  • This song is Gene at his very best but he did so many more great songs. It is always a great sadness when talents like Gene and Roy die as they make a comeback.

@ittaiman - I totally agree with you, we all have to die sometime, in our sleep is tragic but the very best way, there are so many horrible ways that people die.

  • Ocekivao sam debelu crnkinju, a dobio njega.....BRAVO

  • It always pleases me to know that it was my generation which produced such outstanding music as this from the late sixes through to the early eighties.

Just think if someone like Gene appeared today on X Factor, he would blow them away with a song like this.

  • Hard to believe he died around 60 years old

  • @ittaiman He was 65. Very unexpected, he had a trainer, was fit, but his heart gave out. One never knows. It was a shock to all of us. He was a talent unmatched. Still is as far as I'm concerned. I guess he had no idea he had a heart condition and apparently neither did his doctor. It happens. He just stretched out on his bed, after a concert, didn't even take his clothes off, and died in his sleep. Hate to say it but we should all be that lucky to pass in such a mannner. Most suffer.

  • @Tonithenightowl Yes we miss him, I think he had his second prime when Marc Almond picked him up to do this together with him in the late 80´s. That song could not be released in the US cause of two men singing a love song together. Such a shame.

  • @Tonithenightowl thanks for the info... I am 53 I love Gene present tense... he is alive in my heart!

  • @juan58102 Your welcomed, I feel exactly the same way. He will always be alive in his music and in our hearts. :o)

  • she posted it one day and since then i can't forget this, her...

amazing things people do without knowing how.........

    ...

who????........i'll keep it for me....she knows who she is ..

    ...Bless!!

  • Beautiful voice. One of the best. With these old videos ,dont' look just listen.

  • erm its 24 hours FROM tulse not TO!!!!

  • Παντως αυτη η εκτελεση,ειναι πολυ πιο καλυτερη,απο την επανεκτελεση που εκανε ο Μαρκ Αλμοντ,το 1989.

  • In 1964 I attended a party in London held by some folk from the BBC. Gene Pitney was there together with Lulu, who had just had a her first hit with "Shout". There weren't many people at that party. I was 21 years old and remember thinking that Gene Pitney was more handsome off-screen than on. I also recall having my first snog with a guy at that party. God, how innocent we were in those days.

  • @MrMillysworld 68 years old and having a youtube acc heehehe u r awesome rly ! i like the way u think !

  • @MrMillysworld I hate you. You got to see Pitney live and in his prime. I would have run over you in a heartbeat to get to see him. He was one of a kind, and unmatched. However, I was only 11 in '64 so at least I have the concession that you are older than me now wink wink What a wonderful memory for you.

  • love this song...

  • video is pointless here as its so far out its like watching a 1970s kung fu film.

  • It is out of synch. Gene Pitney live --superb!i say him in 1875 in England -- stunning live performance.

  • @eemjmm

didn't know he was already around then

  • @eemjmm At ...watch?v=_lm6Zkjz3i8 you can see a perfect version of the same video.

  • @eemjmm wow you must be old.

  • @eemjmm 1875 was a good year. Remember it like it was just yesterday.

  • @JARTX lol

  • @JARTX I can to ya one better. I remember 1874. A very good year. I remember. I WAS THERE! I promise.Seems like it was only 30 minutes ago.

  • @JARTX Yup, the tunes on the radio back them were incomparable to the shit we listen to today.

  • @JARTX You guys both realize that you put 18 instead of 1975 right.. xD

  • @JARTX LOL

  • @JARTX

Сool! Do you carry the sword with you like the other immortal dudes?

  • @eemjmm oh, you Master of Time! I admire you for watching this guy before he was born. Hail Master of Time!

  • Did he lip sync this? I don't see a mic, did they have those little mics that clip onto the collar back in the 60's?

  • Listen: sydämmeni osuman sai. Good cover of this song.

  • Totally awesome! Couldn't stop repeatin' it...and still can't :D

  • grässlich!

  • @0621katzenfreunde

junge...da musste dich drauf einlassen! Great Song!!!

  • I"m brazilian fan from Gene Pitney

    death in 2006

He is not famous in my country

I have compilation from this artist made in German (evergreen)

I am from the video EXCLUIDODIGITAL search!

  • Something has invaded my night!! AWESOME!!!!!

  • This song used to wake me up when i was in the high school....state radio,. bosnia and herzegovina..:)))))...one of the bright spots of my scholarship

  • dubbed

  • I saw him several times as a teen ager..I had A MAJOR crush! I was close to the stage at one concert and he gave me a rose and kissed my hand...thought I would faint! I saw him MANY years later..we were ALL older, his hair was white but he still had the same voice that could reach the high notes. A unique gentleman..xxoo

  • @sweetnpeachy1 I don't have a ton of regrets in life but not seeing Gene Pitney live is one of them. You not only got to see him but interact with him, and I hope you pressed that rose into your favorite book.

  • when he died so did my grom Gene all the way..and i was born in 1986

  • awesome

  • He reminds of Wynona Ryder

  • @b1warwick why lol

  • @beevers87 The mouth ... huge resemblance

  • the best of the best , yeh , . . .

  • I've heard the version with Marc Almond but much prefer this original. Gene's voice was unique - and this is a classic!

  • @MissymissyJo yep!!! Yes, Si. we!

  • so beautiful. this song touches my heart.

  • We're a 'town without pity' without him.

  • This guy did a gig in England in 1974 in a place then called Leicester Palais --he absolutely wowed the place. After wards he met backstage with a few of the audience --perfect gentleman --the ladies in our large group just melted! Sad loss of a great voice and no doubt a great guy.

  • beauliful

  • TRIVIA ALERT - JIMMY PAGE AND JOHN PAUL JONES PLAYED ON THE RYTHM TRACK!

  • Beautiful voice,Beautiful song. What year did he record this song?

  • @gnirps35 I could be wrong but I think it was 1965 or 66. Amazing song and amazing singer. His updated 1989 version with marc almond went to no.1 in the UK. How it didn't get to no.1 in the states is beyond me.

  • @Tonithenightowl so many truly talented folks never make it in US where superficiality and media dictate.

  • @doch57 There is so much competition, that's a lot of it. And yes a handful hold the keys to the entertainment industry and media. Pitney clashed with the British Invasion and yet oddly when he went to Europe they loved him. He had many hits, but to my knowledge only one song made it to No.2 in America. Hard to believe isn't it? Thanks for responding.

  • i was 3 when this came out,my mum loved it,she would rock me too sleep too thi,i still love it .

  • brilliant singer though bought up on him as was (forced) to listen to him as growing up by my mother and father being fans of his

  • Never a dull momet when you hear Gene Pitney sing............!!!
