  • @chengaun A bakki will always be good at least for aeration and degassing. But I will always prefer a combo of filter chambers with bakki.

  • Many thanks.

It's a high quality and very useful video.

    I learned a lot!

  • Thank you too. You can see my latest (hopefully last) pond renovation in V34 and V36.

  • I would always recommend using an external pump over an internal pump. they are usually more energy efficient, last longer, and are easier to maintain

  • I have nasty neighbours who complain about anything they can think of. If I used external pumps, they would definitely be complaining to the authorities about the noise level.

  • you should consider the Cascade or Artesian series pumps by Performance Pro. they run at a lower rpm (1725) and are very quiet. I've used these on several of my systems for years ( currently running three 1/4 hp and one 1/8 hp cascade pumps)

  • @hooinc if u give ur nasty neighbors some nasty fish, im pretty sure they will shut their nasty mouths.

  • @hooinc I think i know why they complain, in your videos everything is so loud. I mean Bakki, Chillers, like 5 pumps... DUH its loud sounds like a factory...

  • @hooinc I hate neighbors like that. Can't handle a TINY bit of noise.

  • u jsut gave me an idea for my future pond

  • Hope it works for you. Please see V44 for my current filtration system.

  • Are Bio Balls Cheap? Cause Im thinking of adding some in my pond filter. :-)

  • Can't remember the exact price, but definitely much cheaper than J-mats and bacteria house. Check with any major koi dealer.

  • Thanks for the reply. i think i will just get them from the aquarium store.

  • How Come You Changed From Bacteria House To Bio Balls And J Mats? Because According To My Uncle Who Keeps Koi And A bakki shower, Bio Bals Only Do Well In Trickle Towers or in slow moving water and Bac House in Bakki Showers And Strong Moving Waters. So Why Did You Change It??

  • Hi CA, the answer is in my "home" thread on the Malaysian Koi Forum. You read it, right?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes I read it. and u say that u thought the bac house would not do well in slower rates. and u said The Choices Would Be, 1 Clean The BH more often. Your Not Supposed To clean BH. 2 Get a Stronger Pump ( Which You did) or 3 Change The media. ( Which You Also Did). And who did you give The bac house To?? :-)

  • What gives you the impression that bacteria house is not supposed to be cleaned?

  • Well, Even Sentul Park Koi Center Does not clean the BH in the bakki showers. especially if you already have a Chamber Filter. and With Such High Flow rates The Dirt would not stand a Chance! :-)

  • Well then I suppose you think SPKC are the know alls?

  • Well Not Exactly. But my Uncle Says That Too. and he has been keeping fish since childhood! and koi for about 5-6 Years! :-)

  • There are many different levels of the hobby. You will understand this if you expose yourself to the different levels over time. If one is into high end koi keeping, things are very very different. Koi can survive in really mediocre environments but only thrive in certain type of environment.

  • Thanks.

  • bloody noisy

  • which part of the pond does the water leaving the

    shower go?

  • Hi CA, as you know, this has been superceded by my latest pond renovation already. When you are next at my place and have some time, I'll explain to you. :-)

  • What is the difference between a bakki shower

    and trickle tower??

  • Mainly the flow rate. Trickle towers use slow trickles. Bakki showers crash the water down, fast and powerful.

  • Oh ok thanks.

  • good day to you sir...i see that yours is an open bakki shower?iwhat's the difference with the close one?and if i use an open one like yours,is it ok to put some plants in it?

  • Hi Dhon, don't call me sir!! :-) Haven't been knighted yet :-D A bakki shower with air spaces in between encourages better degassing of ammonia, nitrogen etc and better absorption of oxygen into the water. Also helps to cool water in tropical weathers. Cheers, Paul

  • :-)...okay.i see open is better, can i put plants in it?or does it have an effect on the bakki?

  • I sure would like to relax in front of your pond drinking coffee and breakfast on a nice sunrise before a fishing trip. Nice set-up

  • Thanks! A glass of wine would be nicer though.:) Pond is completing a major renovation now (see V34).

  • Whats the reason for the matting.....

  • What do you mean? Why I'm using J-mats? For biofiltration, extra surface area for the biofilm.

  • Never seen a shower using Bio Balls and Jap matting..Your pond is very nice, nice fish.

  • heh, bro, what is d size of ur bakki shower? n what price did u get it back then? thanks

  • Can't remember the price of the bakki shower nor the bacteria house as I paid a lump sum for my pond renovation then. The bakki shower is only 4 feet long, maybe a little undersized for my pond. You can get bacteria house in Malaysia typically for about RM65/kg.

  • 3 days on, the koi are eating normally now. They were a bit spooked during the first 2 days as they adjusted to their slightly new environment. Water has predictably turned slightly cloudy due to the introduction of new J-mats but should clear in another week.

  • Nice bro. Very educational. Hope the bio balls can recover the lost bac quickly.

  • Thanks bro. I did put in some Aquazyn bacterial culture yesterday afternoon, mainly in the bakki trays. It should help. Koi adjusting to the new flows, so taking a bit longer than normal to eat, but they're slowly getting back to normal.
