Still remember where I was. I was in my Kitchen with my brother laughing about something else, and my Dad came out from his office saying that Harry Kalas had died. I immediately just sulked for the rest of the day. since 4/13/09, no game has been the same, and with that statue tonight, every generation can remember him forever.
This really was a shock and so sad for Philadelphia..even if you didn't like sports! Always said "the voice, comforting to hear, 'summer soundtrack', etc.." and that is exactly what it was for me when I listened to the games on the radio when I was a kid and even more when the games aired on Comcast Philly, PHL17.
I just remember turning on the TV for the Nats game and the 1st thing I saw was larry Anderson crying (Didn't know why) until I realized from a graphic that Harry died...I was numb
i remember the exact time, exact place i was standing, and exact date. i was in my kitchen heating up leftovers and i flipped on ESPN about 10 minutes beforehand. and as i sit down to eat i hear, " Phillies legendary broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away at age 73." i looked up and i just kept saying "No" like it wasn't true. it was a somber day in my mind. i will always remember 4/13/09 for as long as i live. Rest in Peace Harry Kalas. 1936-2009
I Remember the day as well and since 4/13/09 Phils games have not been the same the voice is gone but the soul of the man will be forever with the Phils.
Not only was Harry loved in Philadelphia, he was Philadelphia. Harry was our modern day William Penn and Ben Franklin. Harry was a figure who was universally loved in Philly and a part of Philadelphia is gone now because of Harry's passing.
I'm still cying now. I just can't believe it. He was THE BEST ANNOUNCER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He will be mist. It's a good thing the Phillies won the World Series before he died. We love you Harry!
He'll go down as one of the greatest announcers ever. He'll join the ranks of harry Caray and others. NFL films also seems like itll be so different not hearing his great voice announcing them.
Wow...as I don't live in the PHily area, I never knew Harry from baseball. I DID, however, know him for his work with NFL Films. He was the ULTIMATE narrator for NFL Films. No one could do it better. Man, there goes ANOTHER piece of my childhood.
Harry you might of left this world, but your voice will always be remembered by millions of Phillies Phans, and we will always hear your voice at Citizens Bank Park everyday. You will always be remembered for the love of the sport you loved to called day in and day out, and especially remembered the most for You always believing in the Phillies no matter if they lose the big game, or didn't make the playoffs. You were the one who made us fans still believe. And For That I Thank You Harry Kalas.
i remember i was playing baseball at a park near my house when my mom broke the news, at first i thought she was joking, i was stunned.

John Facenda was a hard act to follow--and Harry never got it done. Harry had a booming voice but it had no drama, esp. in the NFL films.

True, I guess. But I don't like baseball and the only team I care about is the Marlins. The NFL is where it's at.
