i've never seen this program before, and judging from the costumes, i can see why. Those are the ugliest outfits i've ever seen on the ice. Very distracting from their skating.
OMG, their designer must have been blind .. :-P It does not even go with the music. One would expect some comedial piece when seeing such crazy colours. The pants looks good on Katia anyway.
I have never been able to watch this all the way through, and I still can't do it. It was a crime to make Sergei Grinkov wear that, and Gordeeva too. Loved them though.
Phenomenal!!! I've never seen this more entertaining side of them. What versatility to be able to skate in both, ultra-classic styles and more creative styles like this one.
They are the best. I prefer them doing more classical stuff but this is great. Very much inspired by Torvill and Dean's Song of India but then again T&D did everything first so its hard to use that as a criticism.
@thispicture84 Not a critisism. G&G seem the more technically proficient (and also ice dancing had much stricter rules than pairs and so they were more constrained), but I feel that they had a much finer feeling expresed in 'Song of India'. T&D always (well, in the early years) mde you feel like you were taking a rare glimpse into an actual love story, where G&G seems more 'exhibitionist'. Which is ironic, considering the actual relationships. T&D were better actors.
You can definitely tell they were working with Tatiana Tarasova and not Marina Zueva on this one. They skated this beautifully. I prefer Marina's classic, more conservative style, though. Like Katia said, it's like Marina was born for them.
Those costumes would have been nice if the color scheme was different. Maybe dark navy blue and gold, but the chirography matches. Overall, I liked the program, it was different for them.

I never saw this program until now, and all I can think is.... rediculous. I can't believe what they were wearing lol! I always thought that they were such natural looking skaters, nothing complicated so I must say it was pretty entertaining to see this! I loved it.
i agree. this was one of their edgier programs, especially in their pro years. the pagliacci program was another. this is the first time i've seen this program in its entirety and it's refreshing to see G&G expand their usual classical routines.
I think that's owing mostly to the fact that they weren't working with Marina Zueva in their early pro years. (The Pagliacci program is the one where they were dressed as clowns, right?)
Overall, I like the programs Marina Zueva created for them were better. I think the fact that she never had them dress up in costumes that obscured their natural beauty had a lot do with it. I still like this program though.
I think that if vomit were an outfit, it would probably look like this. ok, i'm done.

The thing is...those costumes just don't look right -- going from what we might consider an "authentic pose" into backward crossovers? Just...no.

The program was amazing... So, can we just pretend these costumes never happened?

Why would you dress the 2 most gorgeous skaters of all time in these? Soooo Wrong.

I like the lift at 2:34, it's original, that point of the music is beautiful...surely that costumes must have been... trendy in that period O_O

Wow ,when bad costumes happen to good skaters.

It's so much better when the female skater wears pants. It's too distracting when they wear those stupid little skirts.

@Prospectgirl female skaters are supposed to wear skirts - that's the norm.

It is a classical peace of music...
But you are right about the connection with T&D-s "Song of India":)

Stunning.. and the best in show and in overall the figure skating competition. They are most memorable when they skate together.

good program...hideous costumes (as far as color).

They are obviously wonderful skaters, but their costumes remind me of orange and/or rainbow sherbet
