Perhaps the 2nd half of the song was more interesting than the first. Interminable and her voice is so grating. I spent 30 years in WNY and have no clue what she's talking about. Skip.
I absolutely ADORE this song. My family is Buffalo, and this song really speaks to the heritage we have versus someone in the rest of the country. For all those people thinking this song is stupid--I think you really have to be from Western NY to get it. It's much more beautiful from that point of view I think.
@LiLSiCk916 I think the point is that people in WNY wish they were from a more dynamic place, like southern california, where even the earth shakes and moves. The song points out that there are things that WNY misses out on, but it makes up for it in other ways, by possessing things that places like southern california cannot, a place that many admire.
Essentially, it's about finding the positive, accepting what you cannot change, being authentic and proud of where you're from and who you are.
@LiLSiCk916 I don't know ANYONE that talks about California (at all) from New York. This is a song about prejudice, gentrification, history and the grass being greener.
Haha, well i only made the vid a few weeks ago.I was surprised to find that when i searched the song nothing came up. So i decided to make my own video.
I think it's "sometimes the sticks are bogus" not "the stakes"
like, "living in the sticks"

I grew up on the north side of Buffalo.
Graduated from SUNY/Buffalo.
And yep, my house on Rodney had a free-standing tub, dripping faucets, and we'd make coffee in long underwear.
Now I live in California.
And, oh, this song makes me shiver and cry.

How could I be the first one to comment on this? The people in Buffalo have been crying over this song for years!
