I still don't think what they do should be illegal. Who knows. maybe one day there will be some funeral ceremony for some terrible person and they're being buried in a place others don't like (like as an extreme example: burying the remains of Hitler with the remains of deceased holocaust survivors) and laws we wrote for the WBC prevent protest for that sort of thing.
I meant that we don't have absolute freedom. We are already limited in doing things that can harm others physically or emotionally.
There would be a difference between burying someone like Hitler, however, and burying a gay teenager who was murdered or a soldier killed in battle.

As much as i despise these people i'd never advocate harm against them for pushing the envelope of the freedoms we enjoy. We suffer these lunatics because they're the minority the constitution protects. If we move to forcibly quiet these people we only limit our own liberties in the process. Nobody has absolute freedom- there are certain things in this country that legally can get you killed- murder, etc. It is just up to society to make laws to decide which freedoms are protected and which aren't. The things the Westboro Baptist Church say are on the line. Do I think that what they do should be illegal? Probably yes. And besides, I was exaggerating- if the government actually did kill them I would be pretty worried. But I would feel happy if they all died of disease.

I still don't think what they do should be illegal. Who knows. maybe one day there will be some funeral ceremony for some terrible person and they're being buried in a place others don't like (like as an extreme example: burying the remains of Hitler with the remains of deceased holocaust survivors) and laws we wrote for the WBC prevent protest for that sort of thing.

I meant that we don't have absolute freedom. We are already limited in doing things that can harm others physically or emotionally.
There would be a difference between burying someone like Hitler, however, and burying a gay teenager who was murdered or a soldier killed in battle.
I understand your point, and I also believe we should protect basic freedoms, but it is not a black and white issue. Some freedoms should be protected, others should not.
