how high do u set the volume on the bassman on gigs and does it start to break up? i'm looking for an amp that goes well with pedals, has fx loop, nice clean channel and is gig friendly,,,,,,
@tomiclav A good 4 x 10 Bassman is LOUD. 45W Class A, if I'm not mistaken. Rarely does mine rise above the 3-4 mark before the singer leers at me. It starts to get a little break up around then as well. Of course, Clapton and others have cranked them to get the classic Bassman-breaking-up sound, but man, it must have been blaring in that studio!
@Burgerman666 figured that, but hey you have a really nice sound with everything in front so I guess the lack of fx loop isn't that much of a problem ;)) OH yeah, r u from Australia??
@tomiclav I am a big fan of the Peavey Classics. I have a Classic 50 212 and a Classic 30 112....among others. Both have a FX Loop, although, I never use the loop. Everything goes into the front end. You can find them pretty regularly. The Classic 30 is easier to lug around than the 50, but beats up the valves quite a bit. If mine were stolen, I would buy one again.
@mrhauskins I don't have one Eric Johnson album. I do remember seeing a video of Cliffs of Dover around a year ago and being so blown away and intimidated by it I never watched it again. Heheh. And that's about it for me and Eric Johnson.
@electricfiddle1313 Two boards: one big, one small. Small one has the HotWired, a Tech 21 Boost D.L.A. (or Subdecay Echobox) and Wampler Ego comp. Big one is constantly changing due to the obscene choice of stuff I now have at my disposal but has recently been populated mainly with Providence drives, phaser, chorus and delay, Wampler comp, HardWire tuner, Catalinbread Semaphore (when needed) and Subdecay Echobox as interchange. It keeps changing though..forever experimenting.
@davidholmes282 Thanks. The crazy thing is that the board has changed so much since this clip was done that not one of the pedals seen here are still on it. More's the pity, really. I think I'll have to rebuild this one again as it was great fun. Cheers, BK.
I've watched several of your videos now. Everything you own seems to be absolutely first rate. Your playing is very good too. Thanks for sharing your videos.
The first pedal I owned was a Shin-ei Companion fuzz/wah, back in the early 70's. That fell apart after 6 months so I bought a Roland Bee-Bah. It fell apart after a couple of years so I bought a Marshall. Much better. Re the board: I don't think I owned a Tim or Timmy at that stage. I'm in the middle of putting a board together right now for some gigs coming up. I'll run a video for your viewing pleasure when I've finished. Thanks for watching! BK
Yep. Subdecay Echobox. Still one of the greatest delays ever. Other delays like the Tech 21 Boost D.L.A. and Wampler Faux Tape Echo have come along since but it still holds its head high IMO. Cheers.
Thanks Bobby! All I need now is to get better so I can carry the damn thing around. Ha! At the moment I'm using a Burgs comp, Ethos and D.L.A. for ease and lightness. :)
Hey. :) I used a handbuilt '59 Bassman clone for this one. Cost me about 3K, I think. If you're in the US you should be able to pick up a Bassman reissue (Fender) for around that. They're cool, they love pedals, they're light and they sound great if you get a chance to crank them a little. Other than that, the choices are many. Too many!
Hey the feeling's mutual. You have some great tones too. I love that Suhr you have. :) I see also that you're a fan of Brett Garsed; he's one of my old buddies!
I honestly have no idea whether or not that switch was on, sorry. I'm assuming it was though as everything sounds better with it on because it introduces the buffer. This is the answer to your other question - yes, everything will be a little brighter with the buffer/decay switch in.
Hello, did you have your natural decay switch on for the Echobox? and do you find that the echobox changes the dry signal when switched on? cause i hear in some demos that the echobox adds alot of brightness
Will you post a new Vid of your latest main gig board, would be interesting to see how its changed over the year with all the new pedal releases (DLS, MHP 72 etc.) , thats indeed if it has changed at all. Once again thanks for the demos.
Sure. You're right, the current board is a distant relative of this one. In fact, I haven't gigged for so long do to a recent spinal operation that I don't have a board assembled at all. Just a cupboard full of anxious pedals waiting for attention. I'll start gigging again in November When I put a board together, I'll film it for you. :)
I love the Provalve I almost got one. I went for the Wampler Plextortion instead. I have to say I like the echobox alot I have not seen many delays that sound very good. Could you recommend one or two others? Do you still gig with the Provalve?
Sure. The ultimate delay for me at the moment is still the Eventide Timefactor. It sounds just great. I put a video up for it not long ago; check my channel. However, the delay that I'm eagerly waiting to try is the Tech 21 Boost D.L.A. It has everything that I personally need in a very simple interface and small footprint. And I know the T21 stuff is built well because I've demoed heaps of their stuff (on the same channel). It will be the one to beat, I think. ;)
Sure, but I'll list them in the signal path order which is bottom right to left going to top right to left - the Echobox is last in the chain. So we've got Dice Works Fuzz Epic > Farndurk Burgs compressor > BYOC Chorus > Soulsonic FourBanger > Red Witch Moon Phaser > Catalinbread Silverkiss MKII > Wampler HotWired > Lovepedal ProValve > Catalinbread Semaphore tremolo > Subdecay Echobox > Amp. I should add that the board as you see it here has changed about 100 times since this video..
Just at the end of the chain. The signal path runs from the board's bottom row right to the top row left. I wasn't all that impressed with the Echobox in the effects loop; it didn't sound right. It really just wants to be plugged into the front end of an amp's clean channel. Thanks for watching. :)
Yeah, I'm rebuilding one of the boards this weekend and the DLS will definitely be there. I'll stick a few things like a treble booster and Blues Pro before it because stacking stuff into it is really good.
new Catalinbread Varioboost + Dirty Little secret, or a wampler Pinnacle II. A BYOC Analog Chorus, & Dice works Fuzz epic.

OK, Vario + DLS, now I remove the RAT2 & BD2? Also I was wondering your thought about the 2 Ehx's - small stone & worm, to much? Thanks for your help I was a little lost... Keep em coming.
Hmm. The Rat and BD are pretty good pedals as well, different from the Vario and DLS. You might miss them if you take them off so hold off selling them until you're absolutely sure. The Small Stone and Worm are great modulators but you could consider replacing them both with something like a Modfactor (Eventide) for those sounds and a whole lot more.
Sure. Top row, L-R: Subdecay Echobox, Catalinbread Semaphore, LovePedal ProValve, Wampler Brent Mason HotWired, Catalinbread Silver Kiss MKII. Bottom Row L-R: Red Witch Moonphaser, Soul Sonic Four Banger, BYOC Analog Chorus, Farndurk Burgs Compressor, Dice Works Fuzz Epic. All of them are excellent and won't disappoint.

Believe it or not, your playing on that demo was quite inspirational to me back in the day. Of special note is when you demo'd the acoustic setting, you engaged the fishman under the bridge, tapped in a long delay and proceeded to flabbergast me with a short piece of awesomeness. I spent many hours trying to replicate that little ditty. :)
Wow. You sure it was ME? I did the first J-Station demo for Australia and then I think it went overseas too, only to be redone by the guys at Digitech in SLC. I wonder if it was me.. Oh well, flattered if it was. :)
That's my BYOC Chorus, decorated by Sadie. It's great. I've ditched far more expensive pedals for it. To the right of the BYOC is a Farndurk 'Burgs' compressor - basically a tricked out Orange Squeezer.
Couldn't remember why that voice rang a bell until I read your profile, I loved that Johnson J-Station demo video you did some years ago. At least I think it was you.
If you do a search for 'Solgrind Four Banger' you'll be directed to the Four Banger builder's homepage. I can't post links here for some reason.
The Silver Kiss is a different OD to the TS. It's grainier, far more versatile (3 band EQ) and very transparent. It will, however, do a reasonable TS approximation. But it's because of the way IT sounds that I love it.

Hi Brett beautiful pedalboard. Two questions: how do you power all these pedals? And which pedalboard you used to fix all the pedals?
About the sequence of pedals, how do you establish your signal flow?
Tnx and s soon.
