@drumskid10 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write to us. Hope you have a great new year and plenty of fantastic fishing in 2012!
@huntingfever101 The uni knot is a fantastic knot to use when tying 2 lines together and when done properly, the line will break before the know will give...that's how strong the knot is. So go ahead and use this knot for your muskie fishing - you'll love it!
@JesseRoyle1 On Youtube, do a search for Thundermist Bait Rig and you will see our video come up - check it out and see if this method helps you - thanks for tuning in & good fishing.
@CanonDude07 Once you have snugged up your uni-knot and it is good and tight, then you can then trim the tag end right at the knot - no need to leave any tag end at all.
@CanonDude07 The blood knot is also a good knot, but we like the uni-knot much better...your line will break before the uni-knot will - that's how strong it is.
When you tie a uni-knot, be sure to trim up the tag ends as close as possible to the knot and this will ensure that it will flow through your rod eyes very easily.
Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing.
@ Kickingworld Check out the Slim Beauty leader knot instead. The advantage is all tags point towards the rod and exit the knot at the almost same place. A nice streamlined triangle is created and no more hitches on the cast, which is hole in the head dangerous with huge leads and pendulum casting, or just PITA if flippin n pitchin! :)
great video. Thanks a lot as this helped me prep for 'splicing' in some additional 10 lb fluoro to my existing 10 lb fluoro as I needed some extra casting distance for a fishing trip tomorrow. You mention adding a leader line to braid... If I am 'flipping or pitching' into cover and I use 30 lb braid, what is the advantage of doing a fluoro leader line versus just keeping it all braid to the hook? Thanks!
@kickingworld There is one big advantage to adding a fluorocarbon leader to your braid...the fish will see your braided line and could be "spooked" into not biting.
Braided line is very visible to fish, so it is alwyas suggested to use a leader line of Mono or fluorocarbon - you will get more bites and catch more fish!
Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks for writing in and for tuning in. Until next time, good lcuk and good fishing!
@thundermistlures ok that is helpful. One other thing- I did the unit knot correctly (or so I think) and line is super strong but the only problem (and major issue) is when casting out, sometimes the knot in the line causes the cast to stop short or catch/cause friction and backlash or stop cast short or shorten length of cast. I trimmed the tag end as tight as I could but still get this. The knot seems relatively 'flat' on the spool and not abnormally sticking up. Please advise.
@kickingworld It's good that you have trimmed up the tag ends as this is important. The only 2 other things to do would be to ensure your knot is "tight" (which it seems like it is) and then beyond that, when you are cranking in your line, it helps if your line is "snug" when going on your spool. If it's loose, it will have a tendency to catch.
if all else fails, cut off more of your main line and re-tie. This way, your knot will be well inside your spool. Good luck and good fishing.

i used another kind of uni knot for line to leader its a great knot but this one is easier to do. i wonder if this knot will work to put line to flurocarbon leader if the line is 40 pound test and the flurocarbon leader is 25.
i used to lose fish after fish because of the knots I was originally tying. Because of this video, I have had less lines lost and more fish caught. Thank you for this wonderful instructional video.
This knot works great, i was using a small swivel to tie the leader while using soft plastics and i've been told this can spook the fish. i've found that fishing has picked up since using this knot.
You can use a swivel, so long as it does not pass through your rod eyes. If you need to tie two line together & your second section of line is fairly long, then stick to the uni-knot.
You can use the uni knot for tying your main line to a leader or it will also work great for tying braided line to a leader as well

Does it work on Braid to braid too.

@harikarthikeyan Yes, the uni knot will work on braid to braid as well....you may want to give it 6 wraps in stead of 5, for added strength.

I know all my knots except a good knot for tying braid to any kind of mono..
I always end up using a barrel swivel which always ends up wrapping up the braid.
Very easy explained and demonstrated.
Finally learned a knot that I needed for a long time.
Thank you

Is this the type of knot you would use to connect your line to your reel too?
wtf4real123 3 years ago
You would not use this type of knot to connect to your reel.
Actually, there is a very simple & effective way to do so & we have a video which shows it & explains it very well.
Just do a search in youtube and search the words avoid line twist. Our Thundermist Fishing tips video will appear.
Just watch this video & you will see a great way to tie your line to your reel.
