  • i want my technique to be that good...... :/

  • I have a ebay store with tons of adidas backstroke competitive swimsuit for cheap, check it out! :)

    gear4athletes

  • It's a work of art.

  • fish aren't supposed to swim in the olympics.....

  • Sorry about the spelling error.....

    it's supposed to read....

    Not too classy!!

  • heard he likes going to Hooters....not to classy!!

  • 0:17 retarded legs

  • @JustMeNoOneElse016 wtf u talking about.

  • he sucks

  • @LifeBoston

    LOL wow

  • Too much body roll, IMO. See how his toes point straight to the sides of the pool at a 90 degree angle? That ever-rotating.

  • Not very interested in perfecting backstroke.

  • lol big arms he has.

  • Creepy

  • That was so beautiful...

  • @letitride555 this! believe me... i ve got 20 years experience and trained up to 8 times a week over several years

  • my coach made me switch my stroke from something like this to straight arm underwater which is better?

  • how does he makes his feet look so relaxed to get such a good dolphin kick

  • @jmorris214 ya me too wondering g about this however his dolphin kick is so affective o.O

  • On the over head view if you look very carefully you can see him blow air out of his nose.

  • slow mo :(

  • Looks fairly ordinary to me yet he's the best in the world. Hmm..

  • how come he doesnt blow out air out of his nose wen hes doing is dolphin kicks in the beginning?

  • @FearTygaToe It's a thing swimmers, especially backstrokers train to do. You sort of make an airlock in your nose so there won't be any water flowing in.

  • wait a second.....wats his name?

  • He is a fish. :]

  • are u supposed to recover before the catch? cause that's what my coach says

  • Phantastisch :)

  • he was too handsome :((

  • does he come pinky out pinky in instead?

  • @superswimster as far as i can tell he takes his hand out of the water while its flat, so neither pinky not thumb, weird...

  • @jabba969 IF you look at the overhead angle, :19 you will see that his hand is coming out thumb. It is just that he lets his thumb hang loose instead of holding it in tight line with the rest of his fingers. The last underwater angle also shows this with his thumb floating as he pulls down and hanging down has he pushes up.

  • damn

  • I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • if only i swam backstroke like ryan lochte!

  • dang thats a really nice pool.

  • wow truly amazing im ranked 20th in canada for 100 meter back stroke. hes like ranked 2 in the world or something imagine how prous he feels. i wanna be like him.

  • is your body supposed to be turned onto its side like thaaat?

  • dude this is soooo good, iv always had a hard time with backstroke and its been detrimental to me in my IM, does anyone have any drills i could do to help out my backstroke at all to make it look at least a little more like lochte's....meaning making it look and move decently....i am open to suggestions

  • @MrBluesquid100 try only kicking and just rotating your shoulders leave your arms in the water just your shoulders rotating and feet kicking.

  • @MrBluesquid100 rotating your whole body as one is recommended by my coach, keep your shoulders in line with your hips.

another drill is double arm backstroke, both arms go back at the same time to make sure you're not crossing your left arm over to your right side, and vice versa.

tips: keep your head back and push your hips waaaaaay up. try to get your feet to break the surface a bit with every kick, but still keep your hips close up there too. also, pull in a straight line, no zig zagging. :]

  • I hate the people who make backstroke look so fucking easy

  • Any advice on the flipturn????

  • wow, flawless hand entry!

  • What a gorgeous backstroke!

  • im doing backstroke for a meet tommorow. the hardest part in my opinion is doing the flip turn. i really need advice.

  • @asfuckasgator I realize I am 5 days after your meet lol.. but the way to flipturn in to practice youer regular freestyle flip turn and get your backstroke count down perfect.. That way you get to the wall perfect each time and your just flip over and do the reg freestyle turn and you're off

  • nice ^^

  • ryan is a pretty good backstroker he has a great technique to his backstroke im also a backstroker but the thing thats wrong with my is that i need my head to be more down wich is wierd to me

  • Pretty good? Kinda funny considering he's one of the top back strokers.

  • yeah my coach says i need to keep my head back. he know what hes talking about though holds lsc record for 11-12 50yd back with like a 27

  • you don't want it down so much as back, this is a problem I've had, you just want to keep it back with your chin pointed to the ceiling, this also keeps you from misjudging your stroke count into your turns

  • species: swimmer

  • Wow, absolute perfect technique

  • very fluid, i like how his whole body rotates from side to side, been trying to learn that

  • Wow.. he jst makes it seem so easy.

  • Yeah it just looks so smooth, like it comes natural to him.

  • Ryan Lochte WOULD do this in banana hammocks

  • thanks for vid

  • beutiful video thankyou

  • look at the freestyle world record holders mate and ull see, the onli one is the 200m freestyle whcih phelps has but thorpe had it for the past 4 years b4 that

  • Except... 50 and 100m FS now :)) héhé so just what ? 400 ? ^^

  • americans dominate backstroke like the australians dominate distance freestyle for the mens

  • Lol... americans dominate all

  • Americans dominate all? Who was the one lost in breaststroke 100m, 200m in the Olympics again?

  • ok thats true... but dominating the other 90% is considered total dominance

  • if its 90% you only watch the men swimming cause you are so wrong about that.

  • yeah so we lost those two events... who has been the only country to flip the table over on the aussies?? lets see your country do that

  • I am sure the comment "Americans Dominate all" is a broad statement and not just attached to this past Olympics where maybe we lost ONE or TWO races... where as the statement is defined by "WE DOMINATE" the sport overall because if you add up ALL the Golds and ALL the world records, over the last 20 years in swimming, it'll make your head spin...so your comment about who one in Beijing in A race in the 100 breast, A RACE in the 200m? kinda small in the big pic! :) hugs

  • shhhhh grown ups are talking

  • Actually, you're right : all FS except 200m, but if you watch very well, the 200m FS is USA and ... all backstroke, all buterfly, all Medley and all relays. So, say "USA dominates back like Australian dominates dominates FS" is a bit ridiculous.

  • Agreed, Ian Thorpe was a god.

  • Japan's men are catching up in the backstroke. I think Piersol will have some serious competition come 2012.

  • 1:03 is good for 11 -12 girls :)

  • micheal is good in backstroke, but this is perfection

  • omg hes hott and fast

gosh i wish i could do my backstroke like him

  • with ONLY his body pivoting would it give him a suberb steamline? cuz i never seen anyone with a body pivot.

  • His style is similar to Phelps but his pulls look good. Peirsol's style is very different to them but it working for him

  • MAN! his pulls are soo good. i have a dumb arm thats always a little more out to the side when im reaching. he can get both arms to touch his ears, i can't to that. and his kick is up and down. i also don't do that. however i find the way he and i hold our hands are similar. sum ppl tend to bend ther fingers perpendicular to their palm when out of the water but i don't and he doesn't either. yay! his kick and pull is different than mine but our hands are the same! hahaha

  • He is like the best Backstroker!

  • WOOOW hes DAAAAMN FAST!! here we finally have a video showing us the real technique of the backstroke not stupid chinese stuff.

  • that kind of body... is the effing reason why i agreed to go swimming three times per week :D damn swimmers... they're hot!

  • yeah, I know.

  • lochte is my hero!! im a highschool swimmer and all i do is backstroke. the medley relay and the 100 back and he is freakin sweet in the backstroke. but one day when i go to the olympics, im gunna beat him and then i can die a happy man

  • what age are u and whatsa ur time?

  • i wasn't serious. im only 19 but in my last swim season at my highschool (i failed a grade) i was swimming 1.03.42. i was all area and won the mega conference

  • i´m sorry to say this but 1:03 with 19 isn´t fast...

i´m 16 and swim nearly under 1:00 although 100backstrock isn´t my best race

  • hence the "not serious." backstroke is my favorite however i was only a two year swimmer having started my junior year of highschool. i was much better in the medley relay than the 100back. the 2nd 50 would just destroy my legs because since my pull is nasty bad, i kick like a maniac to move at all. im alot prouder of my 25:12 in my last medley relay than my 1:03 (which i only got because i cheated. hehehehehe)

  • How do you cheat in swimming? Can it be done?

    (Just wondering)

  • Dude, I have no clue what kind of competitions you're in, but shit like that will get you DQed in a heartbeat

  • yes you can pull on the lane line

  • not if your are competing. You have to stay away from the lane lines and not stop until u get to the end.

  • yeah i think you can. Doing the wrong kick or stroke for what you are supposed to be doing.

  • This is America, so...

You CAN do it! Good luck!

  • I want to thank nkarpov for this video. Nothing helped me to learn backstroke until I watched this one. This video is short but it's the most helpful! Thank you!

  • GOD HE IS SOOO FOIIIINEEE!!!!<3333

  • that was hot.

  • mmmmmmm, they way he undulates his body under water is soooooo sexy!

  • omg that was to much info

  • @BeckyLedgend a picture is worth a 1000 words, and this is minute long video so.....

  • ...Did you expect a public figure to say any differently, though? I'm sure your technique is decent, but it's kind of laughable to think they were serious saying you have the best technique they've ever seen, when they've obviously witnessed people like Peirsol and Lochte and Welsh swim.

  • well someone i trained with and whom actually befriended me, made coffee for my parents etc in the mornings that you call a 'public figure', didn't have to say anything whatsoever if he didn't think so. and believe you me, he wouldn't've. not to mention tracey wouldn't've either. they had no reason to. or how about you ask her yourself what she thought? didn't think so...

  • So why aren't you in the Olympics?

  • this isnt about you bitch

  • This is an aesome filming of his technique. I got the great oppurtunity to do a small swim clinic with him two years ago. It was an awesome expreience, and he really helped me to improved my stroke!

  • you are sooo lucky he is like my favorite swimmer ever i wish i could just be there for two seconds

  • There are a lot of swim camps with olympian swimmers over the summer. You could look for one next year! Mine was through my team, but I bet the other ones would be nice too. Ryan is really a great and inspiring guy to be with!

  • yeah our team went to one in california with michael phelps and lindsy benco a few years ago

    it was fun

but michael phelps was a jerk:/

  • Yeah, my friend Declan told me that once after he had a clinic with him.

  • really? how was he a jerk???

  • Yeah my team went down to Florida to train with Ryan Lochte about a year ago...its nice to hear feed back from a pro so you can improve...he was sooooo nice!!!!

  • really??? wow that's awesome :)

    how is he like?

  • dont bragg =(

  • seriously

  • haha yeah, "very much"...its that "very much" that makes the difference between an olympic medalist and a nobody.

  • its nice to see how there still people out there that dreams :P

  • could you upload the entire video¿
