Poland knew they were under equipped and didn't have nearly the military strength that germany and the russians had. Why do people keep saying that Britain and France declared war after Poland was invaded? Apparently the term Phoney War escapes these folks. Britain may not have been able to give direct material help in 1939, but the fact that Britain began & fought the war over Poland is essential. What would have happened to Poland if Britain and France had not declared war and had instead remained at peace with Germany? xianrex you are right there was a definite avoidance of Russia's invasion of Poland by the Allied Forces at the time. But they couldn't hope to win against both powers at the same time. They were on tolerable terms with Russia at the time so felt Germany was the priority. When Germany invaded Russia they saw an opportunity that is: my enemy's enemy is my friend for now anyway. They didn't have an endless resource of men and machinery. Just think...think about it?
