i saw this when i was really young, but watching it now, this animation is such a nice narrative about America back in the early 20th century and even now
@s1apshot56 Thank you very much for explaining it to me. I am new to this kind of thing and I've never been much of a music lover. Once again, thank you.
@Despamifier It's jazz. Specifically its symphonic jazz, appreciated by the "high" culture during the jazz age. It was performed by Paul Whiteman at his NY concert for Experimental Music in 1924. At a time when jazz was just beginning to become acceptable for middle-class white america to listen and dance to, this piece was able to blend american jazz with european classical music, it was a huge hit.
This piece is absolutely one of the most amazing things i've ever heard, and now seen. It's incredible to imagine what must have been going through Gershwin's mind as he wrote this. I found inspiration in this to start writing more music, just to try and get closer to the genius inherent in this, and others like it.
am i the only one who realizes that names of the people who partook in this videos creation are hidden within the video? (ie at 6:13, the bowling pins have names on them or at 2:46 the menu outside says "ERIC GOLDBERG PIE")
The Al Hirshfeld style cartoons are PERFECT for this piece. Nothing could be better. And the cameo by Gershwin playing his own music? Wonderful. The whole thing is wonderful.
I love the way the music paired with the first character when he realized he overslept. Hilarious! Don't we all have that moment at one point of time?
i haven't watched this movie since i was 3 years old and 10 years later i watched it in music class today and somehow i remembered this part sooo well.:) it was so great
such an AWSOME animation, the cartoon blending perfectly with the music, also, loved the design they used, using simple, almost monochromatic colorsets in almost everything, even in the "main characters", though they have a more definition and expressions, such a perfect masterpiece, dang, I wish disney could make a new Fantasia x3
The first time I saw this was when the movie came out when I was about eight. Two years ago, I discovered "Rhapsody in Blue" and knew I had heard it before. It wasn't long before I remembered it being paired with this video. That's just magic!
Probably one of the finest pieces of repetitious music , and by repetitious i mean the tune has its own chorus which many have yet many utilise has good has this. If you were as artistic as Gershwin you would have come up with the same name. Rhapsody in Blue is a ''sweet'' ''candy-like'' play on its theme. Almost toy-like in it's nature it draws you into the jazzy nature and thus raises quirk. Brilliante !!!!
This is a song that means a lot to me and has for a lot of if not all of my life. Being a long time and proud second generation United employee, this song has played a very big role in my life in its various forms, and you can say what you want about United but This song is timeless. When I first saw this piece it moved me almost to the point of tears and a genuine smile. Being able to tell a wonderful story no words at all and a single musical piece shows just how amazing Rhapsody really is.
Out of all the Fantasia 2000 parts this one sticks out to me the most. I love the aestetics, the story, the music, I just love it all. Last time I saw this was when I was about 12 and I'm 20 now. Back then I immediately saw myself in the repressed husband who just wanted to have a bit of fun. I love having fun spontaneously like playing with little children or goofing around with a street clown (seriously, it's a blast).
@StonegazeSteam Very good comment about it. I guess every one who lives in big city has this "melancholia" and dreams of having this idyllic happiness outburst, they all have in the end of the cartoon.
This is incredible. I wish all the other cartoon classics were in HD or HQ, like Rhapsody in Rivets, Cat Concerto, Rabbit of Seville, What's Opera Doc.. and so many more countless Chuck Jones and Hanna-Barbera classics. I feel sad for the kids these days, the cartoons these days are utter nonsense :/
I actually didn't have a like for this song because I used to think it was just too random, but now I love it just because I think about all the characters in this video.
@musiclover169 omg. ive watched this video on my fantasia tape 209356295623239823659 times since i was 8 & i've never noticed that. LOL now i cant took away from her hair
Reminds me of what is happening right now. I pray for all those that don't have a job. I know that Obama will lead us out of this mess, but that it will ultimately be up to us to choose our destiny.
@dpas2009 He'll kill us if he continues to attempt to close Gitmo. I've heard it on Fox News. Despite the people indefinitely keeping it open, he still plans to close it.
Ah Mr. George Gershwin. Your cameo on this short is always well appreciated it. ^__^
