  • RIP Rick Danko<3

  • the video is slightly ahead of the music, notice it when you watch levon helm in the first verse.

  • It's a great recording. The one on "The Last Waltz" album is probably genuinely from the concert, but it's nice to have this one with the flashy Scorsese camera moves - especially giving the Staples their due.

  • yeah his voice is good but i think the real vocal talent in the band is levon helm he is amazing. They are all legends in their own right and they took full advantage of being rockstars and who can blame them, i would have done exactly the same, sex, drugs and wild wild woman unlike the boring faggot popstars of today !!!!

  • i dont think danko is coked up, all through the last waltz interviews he looks more smacked up than coked up, itchy nose, small pupils i think hes on heroin

  • You might be right. He died of a heroin overdose several years ago. A damn shame. I love his voice.

  • How coked up is Danko on this track?

  • I mean...I get what you're all saying...that Robertson is not the whole band...but I think you're all exaggerating quite a bit when you say the emphasis is almost solely on Robertson...

...you all do realize, also, that Robertson wrote like, everything they ever recorded, right? So don't crucify the guy without good reason. Sure, Danko had a better voice...that's why he and Manuel did all of the backup vox on the recordings...but without Robertson there is no Band.

  • Rick Danko is awesome

  • they did this right with the staples

  • Robertson is a douche bag. Danko for life.

  • Martin S. really places too much emphasis on Robertson....down plays too much the other members of The Band.

  • thats true mate, looks like a Martin S Robbie joint venture

  • True, never was a big fan of Robertson, but I take solace in knowing that his mic was blatently off at 4:04-4:08 and hopefully for the majority of the concert.

  • I agree...Robertson was good...but this movie made him out to be "The band." Not true at all...

  • i think they put a different take on the live album. it sounds just a little different. anyone know?

  • whats the name of the girl?

  • Mavis Staples

  • love this song.... this is the best version too

  • this is great. Soul and bluegrass haha!

thumbs up to Mavis with her growls and moans...so soulful

  • Now and then, when talented musicians get together, magic happens and a performance that can never be duplicated takes place. This is one example of that kind of magic.

  • mAVIS AND POPS PUT THE SOUL IN THIS JOINT. tHEY ROCKS

  • I love the last waltz

  • Hey Mr. 16 year old. It's is not hard to appreciate this music. I grew up with it and am happy to see young people discovering it. You're right. It does make you feel good.

  • this song is great this version is better becasue i like how The Staples sing it really makes this song strong and bold. love Robbie's guitar. Who thought Rick was Pops lol get it right

  • lol "pops"

  • wikipedia man.. sorry just caught me off guard

  • omg did that guy really think rick danko was pops staples..?

  • Its a shame it cuts early just as Mavis Staple says "beautiful" sends a shiver down my spine everytime i hear it. Great version.

  • Incredible song, is Pops the guy who sings about the dog Chester?

  • naaa dude it's the bassist Rick Danko. I love his vocie and the way he acts during that small segment.

  • agreed. I watched his part a few times lol, it's the best.

  • pops staple have a voice like no other... simply beautiful. props to The Band aswell, amazing group of MUSICIANS.

  • my dad looks and reminds me of rick danko lmao

  • I <3 that ultra rare Gibson double neck, what a find.

  • No worries little bro.... I am 35 and when I was 16 I felt the same way. Last month my 12 year old daughter comes bustin in the living room and says Dad! you gotta check out this band called the "Band"!

Right then I knew there was hope for music.

  • I am 13 and my favourite Band is "The Band"!!! I love Leveon Helm... Good for your daughter

  • Goosebumps at 2:34

This is a great recording here, and when they all start singing like they do at 2.34, it makes me feel, idk, good inside, but i can't quite explain it. I love this song, but unfortunatley no one else my age seems to appreciate this kind of music

    I'm 16, btw.

    (on my uncle's profile)

  • im 17 man, same problem for me but the way i see it is no one has made any good music in so long, i dont want any to come out now! i want to make it, i didnt get jipped out of my generation having good music just for someone to steal my idea. we will take back the radio, its people like you and me that can do it

  • the band

  • fukin MASTERPIECE

  • this version is so fucken epic

  • exactly, when Mavis says "beautiful," it's like a kick in the heart.

  • Many thanks to my parents who had the foresight to introduce music like this to me at a young age.

  • my fave version of this song...awesome!

  • R.I.P. Luke

  • Peace to Luke....

Gracias The Band.

  • suscribo totalmente tus palabras.

  • i just wanted to dedicate this song to my friend Luke Mansfield who is no longer wih us. Luke we love you brother

  • Cheers

  • "Beautiful"

  • Yes, a great voice, and extremely sexy.

  • 2:32 she has a awesome voise!

  • van the man is such a dickhead for taking down caravan from this film. bad move.

  • Mavis at 2:32 of this clip. There isn't a better moment in film history.

  • You're so correct, MrPeacefulman, I keep listening to that clip over and over...

  • Me, too. The only problem with it is it ended one second too soon and clipped off half the word "beautiful" that Mavis whispers into the microphone at the end of the song. You could tell all the musicians and singers knew they totally nailed it in a way that couldn't ever quite be duplicated. Incredible performance. I also thought I noticed some serious chemistry floating across stage between Robbie and Mavis.

  • The Band is Great!

  • danko win.

  • I have lived now.... I have lived....

  • anyone know what model guitar robbie is using here?

  • Gibson EMS 1235 Double Mandolin

  • I agree, npferetti. Not enough views. People have no idea what they're missing.

  • Robbie Robinson isnt even singing. They turn his mic off cause he is terrible at singing. The only reason why hes singing is because he was friends with Marty. Watch the movie next time all they show is Robbie

  • Unbelievably sublime. This says it all. And Mavis Staples is...radiant.

  • @3:42 i love the way hes playing the bass.

  • npferretti . Understand so where you are coming from. But, not killing of ponies.

  • WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!! This has only got 2549 views wats everyone up to. The day this gets forgotten is the day i kill myley cyrus's horse.

  • Stop watching the Fucking Video! Wipe it from your minds!

    (Long Live The Band)

  • Danke Schon

  • Buenos dias!

  • the staple singers do great work here with my fave band of all time. big props out.

  • My Weight is too much, but this one makes me good !

    Thanks you !
