It's a great recording. The one on "The Last Waltz" album is probably genuinely from the concert, but it's nice to have this one with the flashy Scorsese camera moves - especially giving the Staples their due.
yeah his voice is good but i think the real vocal talent in the band is levon helm he is amazing. They are all legends in their own right and they took full advantage of being rockstars and who can blame them, i would have done exactly the same, sex, drugs and wild wild woman unlike the boring faggot popstars of today !!!!
i dont think danko is coked up, all through the last waltz interviews he looks more smacked up than coked up, itchy nose, small pupils i think hes on heroin
I mean...I get what you're all saying...that Robertson is not the whole band...but I think you're all exaggerating quite a bit when you say the emphasis is almost solely on Robertson...
...you all do realize, also, that Robertson wrote like, everything they ever recorded, right? So don't crucify the guy without good reason. Sure, Danko had a better voice...that's why he and Manuel did all of the backup vox on the recordings...but without Robertson there is no Band.
True, never was a big fan of Robertson, but I take solace in knowing that his mic was blatently off at 4:04-4:08 and hopefully for the majority of the concert.
Now and then, when talented musicians get together, magic happens and a performance that can never be duplicated takes place. This is one example of that kind of magic.
Hey Mr. 16 year old. It's is not hard to appreciate this music. I grew up with it and am happy to see young people discovering it. You're right. It does make you feel good.
this song is great this version is better becasue i like how The Staples sing it really makes this song strong and bold. love Robbie's guitar. Who thought Rick was Pops lol get it right
No worries little bro.... I am 35 and when I was 16 I felt the same way. Last month my 12 year old daughter comes bustin in the living room and says Dad! you gotta check out this band called the "Band"!
This is a great recording here, and when they all start singing like they do at 2.34, it makes me feel, idk, good inside, but i can't quite explain it. I love this song, but unfortunatley no one else my age seems to appreciate this kind of music
im 17 man, same problem for me but the way i see it is no one has made any good music in so long, i dont want any to come out now! i want to make it, i didnt get jipped out of my generation having good music just for someone to steal my idea. we will take back the radio, its people like you and me that can do it
Gracias The Band.
Me, too. The only problem with it is it ended one second too soon and clipped off half the word "beautiful" that Mavis whispers into the microphone at the end of the song. You could tell all the musicians and singers knew they totally nailed it in a way that couldn't ever quite be duplicated. Incredible performance. I also thought I noticed some serious chemistry floating across stage between Robbie and Mavis.
Robbie Robinson isnt even singing. They turn his mic off cause he is terrible at singing. The only reason why hes singing is because he was friends with Marty. Watch the movie next time all they show is Robbie
RIP Rick Danko<3

the video is slightly ahead of the music, notice it when you watch levon helm in the first verse.
