  • If you wanna download this mp3 click to everymp3rip doht cohm.

  • it's been two years since this song today!

  • It seems its only a matter of time until everyone in the world thinks they are the first ones to listen to MM. That's one thing that makes them so great, discovering them is like a revelation, an enlightening. It could be more than a coincidence that my life changed forever once modest mouse was introduced to my musical diet. Forever a fan. It's funny because you know the last thing he wanted to do was change anyone's life. Haha. I feel like he's like Kurt he'd rather be hated. But we love him.

  • that is super shitty video

  • i think he uses the effect that makes the note move up and down octaves just by moving the pedal... i could be wrong thought

  • It's possible that he has a pedal-bend set up for the stuff around 1:20, But I'm like 90% sure it's just some really sick bending

  • no, no pedal for bending.. just fingers and a whammy bar, the effect your thinking of is a digitech whammy which IS used pretty extensively by melt banana for their ray gun soundin guitar

  • It sounds like a Floyd Rose Tremolo being put to some good use.

  • @eikipi I know this is really late, but my band wants to cover this song and to be sure im learning it correctly, im supposed to bend while pulling the whammy bar at the same time?

  • I was there :]

  • Eh, i don't like how the studio version sounds. The one on the EP and the single both have way too low of a bass.

  • ...how does he get that guitar tone O_o

it sounds like a whale. duh. but still...

  • man...i've loved mm for almost as long as i can remember, but i just can't decide on how much i like this new ep, or we were dead...just a change of sound, and in my opinion it's nearly for the worst.

  • HAS to be the best Modest Mouse song ever.

and i usually listen to the old albums, stuff new jacks stay away from.

  • your' dumb.

  • youre a newjack modest mouse listening piece of shit.

go fuckin listen to something new age, go listen to MGMT.

    you faggot.

  • shut the fuck up. And no one's gonna take you seriously if you start spouting the f-word like some fucking ponce. New age stuff fucking sucks. Go ask anyone with a reasonable cd collection. 90's for the fucking win.

  • @Markau102 haha, you send me this then you write "you like the one on the EP better". If Modest Mouse didn't get big, I'd still be listening to them, they will always remain my favorite band no matter what, but them becoming a little mainstream makes me mad, im on your side cool kid. Lonesome Crowded West was one of the best albums, what I meant was... out of all their NEW stuff, THIS is my favorite song. But until then, I'll listen to morning teleportation and black moth super rainbow.:) Thanks

  • 1. No, I like the one live better.

    2. I don't like new age shit.

I thought you were telling that guy that you like mainstream stuff, and were telling him to stop listening to new things

    3. I don't care, that doesn't justify "Faggot"

  • @Markau102 I hate mainstream shit just as much as you do.

    believe me.

neither do i, i have a problem with people trying to start stuff with me through the internet.

  • Have all the vinyl singles from the next EP, and I have to say they're all pretty nice. This song being my favorite.

  • This seems to be for now the awesomest song on MM's new EP. I hope there are more songs like it on the final thing in August...

  • There are only 2 songs we haven't heard, unless I've Got It All (Most) is a mistake on the track listing.

    Satellite Skin

    Guilty Cocker Spaniels

    Autumn Beds

    Whale Song

    Perpetual Motion Machine

    History Sticks To Your Feet

    King Rat

    I've Got It All (Most)

I get the feeling Tie The Lake Down will replace I've Got It All.

  • I know the first four plus King Rat have been released in one way or another, what is the other one that makes 2 we have not heard?

  • Perpetual Motion Machine and History Sticks To Your Feet. Also, Tie The Lake Down, but for some reason that has not made the final tracklisting. There was an unknown "longish banjo song, which also had bass, guitar, keys, and drums" played in Orlando on the Summer 08 tour. I am guessing that is History.

  • Comment removed

  • 1. "Satellite Skin" 2. "Guilty Cocker Spaniels" 3. "Autumn Beds" 4. "Whale Song" 5. "Perpetual Motion Machine" 6. "History Sticks to Your Feet" 7. "King Rat" 8. "I've Got It All (Most)"

  • I see. Thanks for the help! :D

  • yea I really hope so too

didnt really care for We Were Dead Before... ""

it had some good songs but didnt have nothing on Lonesome Crowded West

I could listen to that album over and over...

  • I thought We Were Dead wasn't that bad at all, but yeah Lonesome Crowded West is brilliant and pretty much defines Modest Mouse.

  • lol that was quick bud :)

  • Yeah I happened to be up at....3 AM. I'm gonna go to bed now :|

  • only 12 here haha

    lates

  • yeah, me neither......"nobodys first" is five fucking stars though.

  • yes I must agree.. I was afraid MM was heading towards a POP sound

but this EP made me think otherwise

    I'm in love again

  • they can no longer do any wrong in my book

  • So far it seems that the B-sides are allot better than the singles.. I am a long time modest mouse fan and I hope the new album has more edgy stuff like this rather than satellite skin type songs.

  • Love Eric's bass.

  • Sounds like the Modest Mouse I used to know. Fucking love it and miss all the old sounds.

  • Hours away from the studio release.

My. Head. Will. EXPLODE!! I hate waiting for this! Dx

  • was this at lakewood? I think I was at this show

  • Wow, Modest Mouse always seems to put the least effort into their best work. The songs from Building Nothing Out Of Something, Everywhere, and then the b-sides to WWD and Good News, they all preceed the studio albums.

  • Modest Mouse has the most dedicated group of fans.

  • god damn! i will never love a band as much as modest mouse for reasons like this...so fucking good.

  • Wow!

  • i fucking love the shit balls out of modest mouse

  • Can you believe this is a b-side to Autumn Beds? Autumn beds must be the best song ever to be the a-side.

  • Lmfao your so right man!

  • Autumn Beds is mediocre. It sounds like an UC song. The Whale Song is better, and so is King Rat and Guilty Cocker Spaniels.

  • where have you heard Autumn Beds? I need to hear it man! lol...Don't hold out on links! And if you've go mp3..private message i won't share if you feel bad or weird about it.

  • Yo plz tell me also if you get it plox

  • IDC, I have had it since september.

I will pm it to you.

  • could you hook me up with that also man. much appreciated.

  • How did you get it? Like to have it too. But if u dont feel lik it thats cool

  • he got it from my myspace page... lol. I'm the guy who took it. Maybe message and we can work out how i can send it, not good with sending big files, dunno how...

  • never mind. just got it off itunes along with atumn beds in ther new singl

  • can I have that, too? plox

  • where does everyone hear this song!

i really need to hear it

  • i hope this isnt one of those songs that gets dumbede down by the studio version...like guillty cocker spaniels

  • GCS was off the hook

  • wooooooooooah imagine how the studio version will sound like. dude when' it comin out? august right? and I live in germany shit, it's gonna come later I guess

  • dont' worry man, i'm sure it will be on youtube, if it isn't..i'll upload a vid for ya! First day buy for me most definitely

  • yeah ill be waiting for it too. may be a camp out the night before ha

  • Me too! I'm so psyched for this day to come!

  • I'm loving the guitar, reminds me of the older shit

  • No one's first and you're next sounds pretty promising. Can't wait

  • The Only Band That Matters.

  • I agree. The only band I have ever encountered with so much meaning in not only the mind-blowing lyrics, but also the music. Their sound is used as a setting and adds to the message, it's very intricate

  • Their so underated as musicians.

  • This show was great, they were touring with REM, and thats why they had the big screens. I loved every second of the show!

  • I love the visual distortion of your video. It complements the audio perfectly. Sounds fantastically also.

  • Gave me goosebumps. This sounds like a great evolution of their old stuff. Although the new stuff is still good, the old stuff is so memorizing and catchy.

  • This is so ominous, I can't wait until it comes out!

  • wow this is totally a great example of why i love modest mouse

  • fuckin awesome, wish they played this when they came to OKC

  • Awsome song!!!

Vid is missing 2 min but still awsome

  • This is good dark shit.

  • I hope they keep this up.

  • do not like, sorry mouse. satellite skin and guilty cocker spaniel are both GREAT! this might grow on me, it all usually does :)

  • seriously? . . . i dont even know what to say to an mm fan not liking the direction of this one.

  • second that, reminds me of the truly amazing modest mouse albums (lonesome crowded west, this is a long drive)

  • Comment removed

  • Well at least you're honest ^_^ That's what happened when I listened to their earliest MM ep's. At first I thought they were weird, but then they would get stuck in my head and I'd start mumbling them during classes at school. Modest Mouse has a way of doing that :)

  • they daMN shure do. i didnt really like the new album when i first it. but its great.

  • Pretty good! It's way better than satellite skin. I especially enjoy the intro/jam, it reminded me of their good old days.

  • cant wait for their new EP

its gonna be called 'Nobodys next and your first'

  • Comment removed

  • apparently it's going to be released in stages. with several 7" records being sold from april to august then the actual release in August... which wouldn't make a lot of sense so I hope that's wrong

  • jesus! i think i just creamed my pants

  • When I was at this show, I didn't know what the hell they were playing. Glad to know the name now!

  • by the way, theres a new tour date for 2009! check it out, hopefully there coning near you, they are coming to okc! yay

  • can anyone get a mp3 version of this, satellite skin, or nothing new? i cant find shit and need it for my collection

  • dose anybody know when the new ep is coming out?

  • ya, its coming out sometime in september

  • oh my god. bliss. i love it.

  • kinda sounds like bukowski in the beginning

  • good call

  • dude, i like the username, thisusernameisclever - nice

  • wooow. nice. another fuckin awesome modest mouse song

  • im gunna give u all a sugestion. if u havent seen then live do so now. as soon as u can. u wont regrat it. ive seen them 4 times and the shows keep getting better.

  • reminds me of mechanical birds in a way.

  • i was thinking the same thing. and the funny thing is that more than half of the people dont know what your talking about.

  • u suck ar filming but the song is awesome

  • haha I was at this show and I had NO IDEA what this song was at the time. I was so confused because I thought I knew every MM song.... but I was wrong

  • zomg zomg zomg@@!!! cant wait for this album im a modest mouse freak!!!

  • same, it was supposed to come out like 3 monthes ago!

  • Dude saw them first time man this summer at rothbury music festival soooooooooooooooooo fucking amazing man fuckin doses galore blaxed as hell and best tehy actually majority of their old stuff only a cpl of WWD...

  • Sick man, that all sounds great, love them live!!!

  • fuckin brilliant

  • I would love nothing moethan t hear this band live.

  • Oh me too. Me too.

  • !!!!

    Oh lord i am excited.

Also, I hear they've gone back to recording analog?

This could be a sign they've gone back to their original roots!

  • i was at this concert, the solo gave me chills

  • i think this song has that loose, on-the-fly quality that hasn't been on many of their new songs. it doesn't seem strictly structured, just a good bass line as the backbone and then they kinda take the song wherever it goes.

  • i like how people are just measly walking around when a song this great is playing

  • It's because they were opening for REM...

  • i mean when the song hits 3:10

  • they have finally done it. created the greatest song of all time. picture yourself sailin out to sea at night, high up on a flag pole chilling to this shit. the fucking stars so damn bright and all you see is a dark blue sky light dimly by the glowing moon, you dont know excatly where you are going but you dont care and when the song hits 2:10 in this video, that is when it begins to start to rain heavily on you, a cold rain and this song is just playing as loud as possible and you yell, loud.

  • modern day mechanical birds!

  • this is one of those songs where when its over, you just feel like your soul has been crushed

but not in a bad way

    if that makes sense...

    epic song

  • As a Fourteen year old in love with Modest Mouse, pissed off at the site of '17 and up' in town concerts, a live perform seems like a far off fantasy. 3 years far off, to be exact.

  • O man, this was my 1st concert to see Modest Mouse.. it was kinda like a wet dream, except better cause there wasn't ejaculate stuck to me afterwards. On a serious note, i didnt know the name of the song when they played it, but it fuckn rocked. Hopefully i can get to some more concerts. MM 4ever

  • damn i listen to this like everyday, i need the cd!

  • how does issac do this? he like a musical savant. he just keeps making songs, great songs. songs that are different than the others and uniqe and genius. he finds the sounds that every musician wishes and tries to. but he does it. listen to that. i could spend weeks tryin to make that shit work. im a jealous motha fucka.

  • Eric look pretty exited

  • i had faith in you isaac...

    please keep doing this...

  • welcome back, MM.

  • i retract my last comment,

    Untitled EP

Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse said in an interview with Rolling Stone,"My big priority is to finish up this Modest Mouse EP." It is said to be released in September, 2008.

  • we he better hurry his ass up because I'm going into a mouse withdrawal here

  • they are releasing an ep soon, haven't said when yet

  • sounds similair to make everyone happy (mechanical birds).

    only, this time, its whales.

  • thats exactly what i thought

  • lyricssssssssssssss???

  • if anyone read the lyrics, their head would explode from the sear awesome.

  • Why the hell is this comment minus 3? Great comment dude, I totally agree.

  • this does sound like the old mm,i am glad that they can come back.

  • its their damn producer that's making them sound bad on the cds (Good News and WWD)... it's not the band.

But yeah, I hear old mouse in there a lot.

  • good news wasnt THAT bad

  • i know, but it could have been better

  • in some cases yes. i think the world at large could of been worked on more.

  • this excites me

  • sexually

  • mentally

  • The old Modest Mouse is back!

  • i wish they released material more frequently.

  • I didn't think they could pull off the old sounding stuff with marr but this sounds amazing

  • It's amazing how he makes it sound like actual whales. I hope they keep the name of the song

  • They are resting right now... i would gues by mid 09 but if epic doesnt censor them it sound like this album. which will make up for wwdbtses. i mean i still listen to wwd but, not like this is a long drive, lonesome crowded, and moon, all of these were masterpieces. eqivalent to pinks darkside wall and animals. pink still had more albums that were good. but not on the whoa ho ho level

  • does anyone know wen they are comin out with the next modest mouse CD?

  • issac, what a bad ass.

  • Oh Isaac, we all missed songs like this. Not to say that We Were Dead was bad or anything, but..

    This, this is Modest Mouse.

  • the guitar parts in this song sound almost like a darker Mechanical Birds...how they just chirp

thanks for the upload I've been trying to find this.

  • but it's whales chirping... or humming or whatever they do.

    singing. that's it. they sing.

  • exactly.

  • damn right

  • And I felt Mechanical Birds was pretty dark, in a sense.

  • let me guess they were opening up for R.E.M

  • still kinda hard to judge, but this sounds pretty sick. definitely prefer it to satellite skin. i think the effects and everything will sound even radder on the EP.

  • yeah. Satellite Skin sounds a little more like most of We Were Dead but the whale song reminds me of old Modest Mouse. Almost like Moon & Antartica

  • the Moon and Anarctica...yes dude....yes.

  • this and satellite skin are so amazing. i can't wait for the new stuff, dealing with these taped live recordings is killing me.

  • yeah, me and my cousin (after seeing them play this in rochester) were talking about how even though WWDBTSES was good it was disappointing, but the new EP seemed like it would be really sick (judging from this and King Rat)

  • Wow. Isaac was right when he said the Whale Song was an amazing song...

this is much better than the recording of it that i found

  • .....so everyone could find a way out

  • i was at this show. i was the fucked up guy in the green modest mouse shirt

  • YES! I saw them play this at 6-16-08 at Rochester, and was so disappointed that I couldn't find a video or bootleg.
