  • Wtf indeed. Where's the funk, Greg?

  • Greg, you are a great drummer. But here! Are you epileptic? However, i loved the video and, ilove your style. Keep playing as great as you do.

  • Greg looks more autistic than usual here. <3 Deerhoof

  • mmmmmm?

  • that guys just ridiculous

  • This transcends human drumming! I can feel it.

  • sorry, but I think this is just retarded. seeing passioniate drummers perform and getting into their music is cool, but this is too much for me.

  • greg saunier is an insane drummer, an extremely talented musician and an amazing performer. Few artist like him

  • I think that very soon we will begin to see, "Silence Bands", bands who just stand there on stage in complete silence. It seems like anything can be considered, "music", in our modern age.

  • Been done. Look up 4'33" by John Cage. Satire doesn't work when you try it on things you don't understand.

  • I have heard Greg discuss music theories in interviews (very intelligent guy), and I have seen him play in an extremely dynamic, yet spastic fashion, but what the fuck was that?

  • @SidneyK1111 He's trying new things. That's the point of playing experimental music. Sure, a lot of it sounds weird and not easy to listen to, but things come out of that music that have never been done before. you just got to test it first before you exploit it. For example, in sessions like those, new sounds and styles/techniques are created. Thats how bands like Deerhoof and Hella are started

  • @Gavbacca I understand your point, althought I'm not sure if you can say that bands like Deerhoof spawned out of sessions that abstract.

  • @SidneyK1111

Really? Deerhoof has several albums that are really abstract. In fact a lot of the members have projects that are similar to this style. Natural Dreamers s a band with Chris Cohen (Guitar), John Dieterich (guitar) both members from Deerhoof. Ed Rodriguez has been in a lot of crazy bands- Flying Luttenbachers. Double Rainbow with Ed Rodriguez and Chris Cohen. I feel like they jam like this all the time, and thats how they spur some innovative ideas

  • @SidneyK1111 Check out Deerhoof's first album and go through them chronologically. It seems clear to me that the foundation is a fundamentally abstract and freely expressive approach which refined into something hookier as it progressed. They still have that freely expressive quality. How they stretch time is one of their best qualities.

  • Putain, ca c'est du pure son ! A écouter en voiture ;p

    Peace.

  • xD juste E N O R M E !! GG continue !!!

  • Can Can is nothing but improvising. Greg's into that, big deal. It may sound like ass to a lot of people, but there are some people who can enjoy music that others make on the fly. He also drums for Deerhoof and while that's still a long shot for most people to get into, it's at least a lot more accessible than this. He's an amazing improvisational drummer.

  • word.

  • i just think this is really funny. weather it's random or not.

  • there is no rythem.... this is just random...

if these people were asked to do this again, It would be different.... i would not sound the same... cause they are making it up

  • I do believe Greg has his masters in percussion, quite possibly a doctorate(?) I think it would sound the same again.

  • then I believe that you are a retard

  • doesnt matter if he has a doctorate, cause he cant play... John Bonham didnt take any classes, and he would destroy this moron.

  • Maybe you should stop to think about the contrast between Zeppelin and Deerhoof, and how they have completely different sounds.

You cannot compare the two because they are completely different. Bonham plays with a rather large set for example, and Saunier prefers a much smaller set. Can't you respect both?

  • There *is* a comparison. Different sounds, yes.

But by today's rock act standards, Zep was *quite* improvisational as a band. They didn't go as out as this (that we have heard) but they did not do everything like the albums nor always the same.

Respect both? Yeah. Much. But it won't serve you to expect smaller, judgemental, hostile minds to share this view.

Besides i would not enjoy this here performance if *everyone* loved it. It is validated by opposition from squares.

  • You also said that if he were asked to do it again, it would be different. I've seen them multiple times, and I can attest that the drumming is always the same. And I don't mean it's always random.

  • have you even heard a deerhoof song, moron?

  • "if these people were asked to do this again, It would be different.... i would not sound the same... cause they are making it up "

ahahaha, so you have never heard of improvisation? for real?

  • dont worry, he knows his stuff.. its all on rythm

  • no way , i bet hes sober . this all on rythem . its part of the performance

  • Yeah, I really do think he might be on acid in this vid.

  • haha. what a weird dude. He's a pretty damn good drummer though

  • Yes... Acid is really *that* good. :-P LOL.

  • fucking seizure! call an ambulance! greg! Greg! GREG! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  • it really looks like hes seizing. christ, like a monkey on drums

  • Go greg!!
